Carstens seems to relish getting her into increasingly brutal fights, some with laughs—like the time she roughs up a couple of rogue cops and takes away their guns. And when this author gets into an action scene, the prose flexes its muscles like a prison weightlifter.
Kadella and Rivers’ job is to find the evidence that will exonerate Kadella’s client Carl Fornich, a convicted sex offender recently out of prison. But the prosecution’s evidence is stacked a mile high—the murder weapon found at his house, an eyewitness, a semen sample, and blood from two victims. To top it off, the cops really want to nail this guy—one cop in particular.
Carstens realistic take on the law as a nuts-and-bolts, often rickety way to make a living blends nicely with his worldly-wise portrayal of backroom deals, crooked cops, and judges and politicians who connive and collude right on up to the governor’s mansion.
It’s a classic David-and Goliath setup, and the author’s got some pretty fancy twists in store as Kadella unravels a complicated plot to set his client up, and Maddy battles demons that just keep coming at her.

Long-held secrets are soon revealed: Chaco is the old warrior’s last son, and his father’s final wish was to be buried “in the country that knows my name.” To honor that request, Chaco must rescue his sister and liberate Geronimo’s bones from the Apache Cemetery.
During the escape, two white men end up dead. Once an honored hero, now a hunted outlaw, Chaco races west with his sister in a stolen motorcar. As the last Apache warrior, he must pay the price with blood in one of the largest manhunts of the 20th century.

About the Author:
Darrel Bryant, a fifth generation Texan, brings to his writing a decade of military service in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army (airborne), to include Special Forces training. An early taste for adventure led to treks across the Yukon and Alaska, hikes into the Grand Canyon, up the Appalachian Trail, and along Hadrian’s Wall in the north of England. A Hemingway summer lived in Paris. Five years as a riding hand on a 27,000-acre Montana cattle ranch, and crewman aboard the yawl Open Return on her homeward voyage from Long Island, NY to Galveston, TX. With a half-dozen novels in finished form tucked away in a file, he lives alone in a house he built with his own hands, from mostly recycled lumber, on the outskirts of his hometown, Austin. Geronimo’s Bones is his first published novel.
