And then, there’s another girl, Summer. A literal ice queen who does whatever she wants, whenever she wants. Her parents picked her name as a cruel joke, because anything bright and sunny is like death to her, and to be honest, I don’t even know how she’s still at the academy. I’m sold on the idea that she high-key hates everybody and everything, but we always seem to cross paths at the worst times.
Which…yeah… (Is her hair really jet-black? She has to dye it, right? That’s not natural, right?)
Anyway, my classmates aside, the academy is full of its own challenges. The classes are tough, the exercises are brutal, and to top it off, I’m at a major disadvantage because I can’t access my powers at will, and I’m in the advanced courses.
I’m doing my best to stay afloat, but Tristen isn’t making it easy. The academy is fast-paced, but I still have other things to focus on besides academia, like why I was attacked before I came here and the true nature behind my abilities.
And don’t even get me started on dealing with the wild things that pop up at any given time on this crazy campus.

About the Author:
Lara Reznik, a native New Yorker, escaped to New Mexico in the 1970s in a Karmann Ghia that she jump-started cross-country. As an English major at the University of New Mexico, Lara studied under esteemed authors Rudolfo Anaya and the late Tony Hillerman. She also attended a program at the prestigious Iowa Writers Workshop.
Ambidextrous from birth, Lara preferred her right-brained creative side, but discovered she could make a better living with her left-brain skills, so entered the I.T. field in 1985.
Since the breakout success of The Girl From Long Guyland in November 2012, Lara retired from her day job in I.T. to write full time. Currently, Lara lives with her husband and three mini-Australian Shepherds in Austin, TX.

Kindle Screen Freeze Fix
Have you ever had your Kindle (or Fire) screen “freeze” or become unresponsive? It can happen for a variety of reasons, but the probable cause is a low battery.
If this happens to you, try the simple step of plugging it into your charger for a few minutes; although it may sound obvious, please make sure the charging indicator light is on. That should do it but, if it doesn’t, there is one more thing you can do before you break down and either smack your Kindle or call Amazon’s Kindle Customer Service: try resetting it. To reset it at this point, slide (or press, as appropriate for your Kindle or Fire) and hold the power switch for 30 seconds or longer then release it.
Your Kindle should then spend a little bit of time resetting, and you should be back in business! If not, unfortunately, it is probably worth a call to Amazon’s Kindle Customer Service department.
A friend of mine’s Paperwhite recently had a screen freeze and it was fairly frustrating as she was in the middle of a book, and a simple reset as described above fixed the issue. Yes, I was the customer service phone call in this case….
