Extra Scenes from ARTICLE 5

Good afternoon friends!

I have posted the first of 7 extra scenes on my website. I am so excited and nervous about this. Excited, because I love that Chase Jennings, my dark hero from ARTICLE 5, finally has a voice. Excited because along with these scenes, Lisseth’s AMAZING ARTWORK will be featured for all to see! (The top 10 cover contest winners are posted here: http://www.kristensimmonsbooks.com/bl...) Nervous, because, well, besides the fact that these scenes are UNEDITED (yes, that’s right), Chase is about to share some pretty personal stuff. Just the thought of it makes me feel a bit vulnerable.

Anyhow, the scenes will be posted under the EXTRA SCENES tab on my website (http://www.kristensimmonsbooks.com/ex... ). If you have questions or thoughts about them, I would love to hear. Email me at kris10simmons@gmail.com (or tweet or FB me) and I’ll do my best to answer.

Happy Holidays everyone! And happy reading!

And remember…BREAKING POINT is coming…

Cover Contest Winners!

I didn’t know what to expect when I opened this cover contest for the extra scenes from ARTICLE 5. I certainly didn’t expect judging it to be so difficult! But it was. Because the submissions I received were fantastic. They were so good my panel (the baby, the precious greyhound, and I) had to call in reinforcements – my agent, my editor, and an author friend for input.

I have decided to post the top 10 entries because again, they were all so awesome. Thank you to everyone who entered the contest. I am so honored to receive your work, and truly impressed by your creativity.

The first place winner and runner up will be getting an advanced copy of BREAKING POINT (Thank you Tor for donating another to the contest!), as well as buttons made by the fabulous JeanBookNerd, and BREAKING POINT bookmarks (hot off the presses!). The first place winner’s work will appear before the extra scenes from Chase’s perspective, which will launch next week on my website, and continue for the 7 weeks leading up to the release of BREAKING POINT. Everyone in the top 10 will receive swag. Again, thank you so much for entering.

Without further ado, I present to you the top 10:

1st Place: Lisseth T. – New York

Lisseth’s originality and creativity impressed all the judges. Her piece was chosen because it feels like such an accurate portrayal of Chase’s interior – overwhelmed, frightened, chaotic. The scene takes place in the kitchen of the abandoned house in ARTICLE 5, where Chase realizes he is nothing “without the only person left that he loves.” Look for Lisseth’s work next week on my blog with the first extra scene!

Cover Design Contest!

***UPDATE: PLEASE RESUBMIT ALL COVERS TO kris10simmons@gmail.com. SO SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION!***

Ever wondered exactly what went down after the arrest of Ember’s mother? Or how Chase really feels about Ember? Or about Chase's time in the Federal Bureau of Reformation? If so, you're in luck. In preparation for the release of BREAKING POINT, Book 2 in the ARTICLE 5 Series, I am going to be releasing a series of previously unpublished A5 excerpts from Chase's point of view on my blog during the months of December and January.

But what is a book without a cover? Before I release Chase’s story, I need the proper wrapping (it’s the holidays after all!). That’s where you come in. I am looking for some ARTICLE 5-inspired artwork to be presented on my website along with these scenes – a cover of sorts. Interested? Here are the details:

• Art of any medium will be accepted (drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, collages, scrapbooking, friendship bracelets, etc.). As mentioned above, the “cover” will be posted on my blog above Chase’s story. You don't have to be Picasso to enter the contest - I draw stick figures too! No inappropriate content will be considered.
• The cover must be emailed to me at kris10simmons@gmail.com no later than midnight, December 1st, 2012, with the subject line: ARTICLE 5 ART. Included in the email must be your name and the city where you live. Or at least what you’d like me to call you and where you’d like me to believe you live.
• I will present the top three entries on my blog the week before the first scene is posted. I’ll also likely brag about them on FaceBook and Twitter. The winner will be chosen by a panel of me, my greyhound Rudy, and my infant son.
• In addition to having their art displayed on my website before Chase's story, the winner will receive either a signed ARC of BREAKING POINT or a signed hardcover of BREAKING POINT (when it releases February 5th, 2012) and a BREAKING POINT button. Also celebrity rock star status (obviously). The two runners-up will receive BREAKING POINT buttons (courtesy of the amazing JeanBookNerd).

The contest begins now.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

BREAKING POINT Giveaway!

There is nothing quite as nice as opening your email/FB/Twitter and reading so many well wishes. Thank you! I appreciate your support, stories, and positive thoughts for my baby. My family is happy and healthy and ok, somewhat sleep-deprived, but it doesn't even matter because we are so, so grateful to have each other.

And while I've been gone, look what else the stork brought to my door...

Advance copies of BREAKING POINT!

Aren't they pretty? Would you like one? If your answer is yes, guess what? Some very special blogger and author friends are giving away copies on their websites throughout the month of October - Happy Halloween! If your answer is no...um...sorry. Perhaps I can offer a hug? Some delicious chocolate chip cookies? Either of those work?

My website is the first place you can go to win, but stay tuned to Facebook and Twitter, because there will be TEN CHANCES TO WIN AN ADVANCE COPY OF BREAKING POINT this month! (AND, if tragedy strikes and you don't win, I may or may not give you another chance on my website in November. I do love the holiday season!) I will add more to this list as the contests are posted.

Good news: Contests, Cover talk and more!

It’s August. August. Can you believe it? The only reason I do is because I’m in Florida, and it’s 6,000 degrees in the shade, and I’m in my 9th month of pregnancy. Yeah. It’s hot. But despite that, I cannot believe the summer is already nearly over. I can’t I believe the Olympics are over! The thought of not seeing Michael Phelps for another 4 years, if ever…it disturbs me greatly.

Anyhow. I’ve got good news.

The first, which is super exciting, is that ARTICLE 5 has gone into its 5th printing! That’s pretty freaking awesome from what I hear. Thank you to everyone out there who is supporting the book. High-five for A5! And if you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, check out the blog of the lovely Jean BookNerd (http://www.jeanbooknerd.com/2012/08/k...), where we’re talking storytelling, lies, and also giving away a free copy!

Exciting News!

I so love when I get to announce good news on the blog!

I have three pieces of good news for you today. The first is that I can finally tell you that Tor Teen and I will be extending our contract for another 3 books following the conclusion of the ARTICLE 5 trilogy!

I cannot even tell you how happy this makes me! Tor Teen has been amazing – I am so grateful for all of their support and talent and advocating. And I looooooove my editor. I love her more than chocolate chip cookies. The chance to work with her for another 3 books is fantastic.

Here’s a little more information:

These three books are not another trilogy – they are three separate books. The first is called THE GLASS ARROW and I wrote it between edits on ARTICLE 5 and BREAKING POINT. It’s about a girl who is captured by some nasty folks who want to sell her reproductive rights because she lives in a world where women are endangered. Sound intriguing? I hope so!

The second book is... described more on my blog so come check it out!
