I was lying on a padded massage table in one of those tiny open-air huts, with only a little towel covering my behind. My erotic adventure began the minute he whispered, "Do you happen to own a pair of red, fuzzy handcuffs?"
Well okay, it didn't exactly start there. If I'm going to be perfectly honest, I think it started with Kat's text: "Meet me at - insert name of five-star restaurant here." Kat is always getting me to take her out for expensive dinners. I don't mind, I'm a high paid executive, in a very large corporation, while she's a receptionist in a small dental office. He smiled his, I- must-be-friendly-because-they're-guests, smile and escorted us to our table. We ordered drinks and chatted. We talked about the weather, her new dress, my job—you know, just old—no, scratch old, put longtime—girlfriend stuff.After a diet conscious meal, followed by a calorie-loaded dessert, we waited outside for a taxi. "Do you trust me?" With a goofy grin on her face, Kat's dark chocolate mellowed-from-too-much-wine, eyes gazed at me.Having seen that innocent demeanor before; it meant nothing but trouble. I was a bit wary. Okay, a lot wary! The last time she'd gawked at me like that and asked the same brainless question, we ended up at a frat house beer slosh during Homecoming and I wasn't in college anymore.A cab pulled up and stopped. She grabbed my arm and dragged me into it. "Convention Center."I slid next to her and shut the car door. "What's at the convention center?" "That's the trust me bit." She raised her hands and flicked two fingers up and down at the words "trust me".You have to love air-quotes.I checked my Blackberry for messages then glanced at her. "Is this going to get me arrested? Again?"She shook her head."Is it going to get me hit on—again—by horny, beer-soaked, college drunks?"Kat giggled."Is that a yes or a no?""Nope. Not going to tell you. You need to trust me."Air quotes. Again.I stuffed my smartphone into my royal blue Coach purse. "Okay, let's see what the Fates have in store."A cold breeze tickled the back of my neck. What the hell? I twisted around, looking for what caused it. The windows were up. I doubted the AC was on, as it was early April, and still cool outside. I shook my head and settled back for the ride.Traffic picked up as we neared the convention center. The driver wormed his way through the congestion and parked at the curb by the main entrance. "Well, it seems like a popular attraction." I paid the cabbie, and we followed the crowd into the building. As I read the convention billboard, my feet froze to the sidewalk. I snapped my face in her direction. "Erotic Notions! The…the sex show!"

Trent woke in a claustrophobic, sterile white cube and panic set in. Where the hell was he? As the events of the previous night returned, he relaxed. I’m here for plastic surgery, so I don’t
have to live in fear of Coco and her father mucking up my new life.


He relaxed and intended to sleep more, until someone turned on the light. “Good,
you’re awake,” a female with a heavy twang said.


Opening his eyes, he focused on the young woman who was to prep him. “Tell the doctor I’ve decided on face number two.”


She snorted and shook her head. “That ship’s done sailed.” She helped him sit up. “But the good news is, you got the one you wanted.”


“The surgery is over?” he asked in surprise and touched his cheek. “Ouch!”


“Yeah, you shouldn’t go poking around yet.”


“Can I have a mirror?” Fear settled in.


What if I hate my choice? What if the doctor decided to give me a harelip?


“You’re still swollen, so this isn’t the final product.” She gave him a small mirror as she ran through a long list of dos and don’ts that never made it through his exploding panic.She tried to hand him a sheet of paper, but he
couldn’t get beyond the hideous, lumpy, stitched ghoul staring back at him. He was a mix between Rocky after a losing battle and Frankenstein’s creature freshly stitched together.


How will I start over looking like Frankenboxer?


She placed the paper in his lap. “Your ride is waiting for you. Get dressed and someone will take you to the car.


He stared at her in confusion. Who would be waiting for him?


She rolled her eyes and huffed. “We don’t have all day. Now get dressed.”


When he still didn’t move, she grabbed his pants and pulled them over his feet dangling from the bed.


“I’ve got it,” he said.


“Good, then get moving. It’s almost daylight.”


A large black guy helped him into a wheelchair and rolled him out to a waiting limo. 


The moment he climbed into the pitch-black passenger section, the limo took off.


He wanted to ask the driver if he worked for the spa Trent had booked for his healing, but the dark security panel remained up and he couldn’t see any control to lower it, but then he couldn’t see much of anything. The windows were heavily tinted, which left him feeling as if he rode in a hearse. Upon consideration, he decided it a fitting form of transportation, since the authorities were
probably declaring him dead about now.

In his black custom suit, he radiated power. He pulled at his cuff links as he stopped to survey the room.Instead of trying to make my escape, I seized an opportunity to antagonize him. I was really starting to enjoy tormenting him.“Good morning, Grim, it is nice of you to join us.”“Grim. Ha! She called him Grim.” Rhys clapped his hands as he laughed.Cyril didn’t acknowledge me or Rhys’s comment. He stood there for a very long time and looked around the room at each man. Nobody met his gaze but me. Cyril’s fists clenched at his side, jaw tight, and face furious.“I warned all of you,” he addressed the room. He didn’t growl but rather wrapped his words with a subtle menace.“Leave them alone. You know this is entirely your fault. If you would just think things through, you’d stop fucking everything up. I do have to say, of all your fuckups, this one is certainly the most impressive and entertaining from my perspective.” I winked at Overton, who managed to glare at me even with his head practically bowed. Why were they so fucking subservient to him?The next thing I knew, I was yanked from my seat and hoisted onto the counter. Cyril grabbed my ass and pulled me to the edge, forced my legs open, and stepped between them. He wrapped his arms around me and placed his head against mine. It wasn’t his voice I heard but rather his mind. It felt like when I talked to myself but somehow I knew it was him. Strange, he had tone and inflection while communicating.“You need to stop showing off in front of my men. Yes, I fucked up, but do you really want them to give in to their urges? Do you think you can fend them off? I could toss you to them and see how far you get. Is that what you want? Maybe I should let them have their way with you and pull up a chair to watch. I want you to think about something before you start to defy me. I’m the only one who can keep you safe. So it’s best you stop being a smart-ass for five seconds and listen to me. I’m going to do something that will piss you off. I’m warning you now it’s for your own good. You need to go along with it, no matter how angry you are at me. Don’t fight me. I’ll try to fix this but until then, I need to take a few precautions.”I wasn’t sure how to respond. If I thought something, could he hear me? Was this two-way communication?
