The heat is on!

Baby M touched down in Hong Kong just before noon yesterday. Some of her fans missed out on this chance to meet her since the plane was 30mins early (they were en route to the airport).

She spent some time with volunteers from Pink Season, Hong Kong’s LGBT festival, before zooming away to her hotel.

After checking-in, she rushed to , where she met Taiwanese artiste, Jeremy Luen. It was their first face to face meeting and so they spent time getting to know and understand each other over an extended delicious Vietnamese brunch.

The duo then headed to meet popular producer/composer/arranger – Alan Cheung at 101db. Although Baby M has just recovered from a throat infection (which she had picked up while doing relief work in a flooded slum in Manila, for her charity organization Voice For Hope Japan), she spent the next few hours rehearsing with Jeremy.

Their first song is a Chinese version of her international hit – Rainy Day. The final recording is planned to take place mid-week.

Baby M kicks off her Pink Season performances tonight at the Les Peches Club x Lounge Party at Lakage

Baby M & Jeremy Luen to work on two songs

Popular J-pop icon, Baby M, arrives in Hong Kong on 30 September to collaborate with Taiwanese artiste, Jeremy Luen 綸彥霖. The duo plan to record and release a couple of love songs, in English and Chinese.

“I am looking forward to working with Jeremy,” says Baby M, who wants to reach out to the Chinese audience. She is no stranger to collaborations, having performed with artistes from South Africa, Japan, Italy, the USA and the Philippines. Baby M will be in Hong Kong for a week and shall perform at a couple of events in the Pink Season festival before flying to Ireland.

Both artistes are thankful to their fans and wish to give back to the society. For their first song, they have chosen to donate proceeds to the Hong Kong Blind Sports Association (HKBSA), which provides professional sports training courses for people with visual impairment. Baby M is also involved with helping children from the slums in Manila and HIV relief work in South Africa.

“We are two artistes from different backgrounds, countries and languages. That’s why it is a special project for us. We want to spread our message of love to everyone,” says Jeremy. His new hit single is popular with clubbers.

Dark Shadows and Hypnotherapy

Tim Burton & Johnny Depp never fail me, since  Edward Scissorhands to Sleepy Hollow to this campy remake of Dark Shadows, the duo have kept churning out what they do best – a huge combination of humor, satire and action all under a pretense of a thriller.

But Dark Shadows has gotten my goat this time – the hypnosis scenes  sprinkled throughout the movie have the potential of reinforcing the misconceptions on my profession – not good since I am spending a considerable amount of time explaining what Hypnosis is NOT.

DEBUNKING :

First, in contrast to what you see in the movies , YOU DO NOT LOSE CONTROL OF YOURSELF while in session. In fact, one still has the ability to decide what kind of messages to receive and the suggestions which they are advised to act upon.

Second, in a hypnotherapy session, it takes MUCH LONGER FOR CLIENTS TO ENTER A HYPNOTIC STATE, because relaxation and induction are absolutely necessary to bring upon hypnosis. Swinging a pendulum is not the usual method we employ or prefer as the clients are not hypnotized deep enough to carry any meaningful work.

There was a scene where Helena Bonham Carter essentially interrogated Johnny Depp while the latter was hypnotized. Again, this does not happen in real life. You never surrender your own will and consciousness while in session, you will wake up on being asked those questions. But in the movie, Johnny confessed for hours and hours has no connection to reality.

Don’t take it seriously , Please !

The original UK series has hypnosis as a vehicle to bring forth plot developments while never claimed to be an accurate representation of real situations. This movie adaptation preserves such a device, but having reached a much wider audience, especially in countries where the understanding of hypnosis or hypnotherapy is NON EXISTENT, only adds to my challenge to dispel any of that garbage mentioned in that movie.

I enjoyed the movie as any Friday evening movie-goer would but, as a hypnotherapist practicing in Asia, I see it as an obstacle to my work.

Baby M supports Pink Season 2012

After her successful performances at Mr. Gay World (Johannesburg) and New York Pride, Baby M has voiced her support for Pink Season, Hong Kong’s LGBT Festival. The multi-platinum selling recording artiste, who made her Hong Kong debut last month, has recorded a short video message to support Pink Season and expressed interest to perform during the festival.

“I have been supporting the gay and lesbian community,” said Baby M, who has also been involved with helping children from the slums in Manila and HIV relief work in South Africa.

Pink Season runs from 29 September until 04 December and is an unprecedented collaboration between local LGBT organizations and artists. The Pink Season schedule covers the glamorous Mr. Gay Hong Kong pageant, Floatilla party at Sea, Out in the Open beach carnival, Gay Day at Disneyland, the Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and many other LGBT-friendly events. Aiming to attract tourists from all over the world, the Pink Season hopes to garner support from the HKSAR government, the local population and LGBT-friendly establishments and become a force for positive development for the LGBT community.
