Guest post: The Joy of Creating New Worlds

I just had a guest post go live on Katelyn Torrey's Tales of Books and Bands. Sweet kid. I talk about the joy of creating new worlds, and the first Red Piccirilli book, plus we're giving away some Kindle copies. Go give it a read already and spread the word if you can because I'm lazy, I mean, super busy. Thanks!

What's going on?

Lots of fun stuff here. Should have an interview with Greg F. Gifune up this week and working on questions for Jack Ketchum's interview! I've been handcopying my Gauntlet edition of Ketchum's Only Child along with Jack Cady's The Well to learn some more. Good times.

It's been a long while since I've been to Barnes and Noble but I went yesterday and loaded up on some books I've wanted for a while: Dennis Lehane's The Given Day, Cormac McCarthy's Outer Dark, Joe Hill's Horns, William Faulkner's Light in August, Guerrilla Marketing for Writers, and John Connolly's The Gates. Tons of great reading for the next couple weeks! I think I'm going to go back to the way I used to read (one book at a time). I think I get more out of it that way. What are you reading?

Also turned in a very neat thing on the Division mythos for Darkfuse so readers can see how the novellas and novels weave a bit. Will let people know when it goes live!

Working hard on the 3rd Red Piccirilli book. Very excited that Darkfuse/Delirium has taken a chance on me like this. You can read the first chapter now and new chapters will be added every Friday by noon as I write them!

If you have a digital reader go snag an awesome deal with Delirium's Book club. Cutting-edge fiction to help you live longer.

Chizine still has the second Red Piccirilli novella Within This Garden Weeping under consideration but another publisher is interested if they decline. Very sweet! I'm looking forward to getting this novella sold because it's the second in the Division mythos series. Once it's out we'll have the first 8 books of the 13 book series published!

1. Before Leonora Wakes (Big novella. Red Piccirilli Book #1.)

2. Within This Garden Weeping (Big novella. Red Piccirilli Book #2. Under consideration with Chizine right now)

3. Collected Songs of Sonnelion (Novel. Red Piccirilli Book #3. Current Project, serialized on Darkfuse's website!)

4. Nursery Rhymes 4 Dead Children (Division Novel #1, Delirium Books, May 2011)

5. Iron Butterflies Rust (Frank Gunn novella #1, Delirium Books, August 2011)

6. As I Embrace My Jagged Edges (Sideshow Press, Digital 2011/ Hardcover 2012)

7. The Dampness of Mourning (Division novel #2, DarkFuse, February 2012)

8. Down Here in the Dark (Frank Gunn novella #2, Delirium Books, April 2012)

9. The Patron Saint of Infinite Sorrow (Division novel #3)

10. She Collects Grave Nectar (Michael Johnston novella)

11. Proserpine's Story (Ravaged Gods novel #1)

12. Lord of the Damaged (Ravaged Gods novel #2)

13. Violent Races (Ravaged Gods novel #3)

Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits- Thomas Edison

Returned the galley for my standalone novella When We Join Jesus in Hell (Delirium Books). And expect news in the coming month about my standalone  novella from Thunderstorm Books, Immersion.

Wherever you are, enjoy yourselves. And thanks for all the support!

Wonderful News! (Collected Songs of Sonnelion)

Super pumped that my third Red Piccirilli novel COLLECTED SONGS OF SONNELION (which is a pivotal moment in Red's life over the course of the Division mythos) is going to be serialized on Darkfuse! I realize this is a very huge gamble my publisher is taking on me since I've only written the first four chapters and he has no idea where it's going (so a huge thanks to Shane Ryan Staley for that kind of faith!)

Since the book isn't even written yet there is no contract for another edition (hardcover, paperback or digital) so if you want to read this follow along every week at Darkfuse's website!

The first chapter is up and you can read it here!!!

Other chapters will be coming shortly!

This novel is really going to show why John's uncle Red is the recluse, shattered man he is in the later books. It's going to be brutal and savage and full of so much emotional weight by the end that you're going to need a stiff drink or two to get your head straight again.

For those who have read The Dampness of Mourning you're in for a special treat with this book.

Oh, what's all this…

My story More Than Enough is featured in this chapbook. I was one of the winners in their Writer's Eye competition and they're neat little books. You can snag a copy for five bucks by calling York Arts at 717-848-3200.

Also turned in a fun guest blog titled The Joy of Creating New Worlds. It's snazzy. Looking forward to when it goes live because I love writing stuff like that!

Working hard on a writing book for beginners called Chasing the Dragon. It's Bruce Lee for writing soul. I share a lot of things I've learned in the last year since selling five books to Delirium/Darkfuse and one to Thunderstorm Books. Going to cover a lot of material in a unique way and hopefully make some people think. Pouring my blood into this thing so it'll be a little heavy and very straightforward.

Have fucking awesome news about my third Red Piccirilli novel COLLECTED SONGS OF SONNELION and the Division mythos as a whole that I can't share yet but will be super excited when I can!

Plus I'll have a live interview coming up before we know it!

Will also have a fun and insightful interview with one of my favorite writers on here again. The deadly Greg F. Gifune.

And Delirium is offering a sweet deal on the novellas right now that you need to check out. *Poke*

Okay. That's all from me. I'm spent.

Merry Christmas.

A winner in a competition I forgot about

A nice surprise came in the mail today. Susan had talked me into writing a short story (More than Enough) to enter for the York Arts competition last year. I did, using one of her art pieces as the inspiration, and I've been so busy with a number of things that I forgot about it. But today I got these nice things:

Pretty neat.

WHEN WE JOIN JESUS IN HELL galley

Just received the galley for my heartbreaking novella WHEN WE JOIN JESUS IN HELL. It's definitely a huge nod to my hero, Tom Piccirilli, and it's got a bunch of stuff from real life in it that chokes me up. Super proud of this story and can't wait until everybody can read it!
