If Wishes Were Horses

If Wishes Were Horses Available for Pre-Order

A remarkable woman, a hard-luck cowboy, and an unlikely race horse. No one thought they had a chance.

[image error]From USA TODAY bestselling author Curtiss Ann Matlock comes the story of a woman with spunk and resolve to rise above poverty. Sweet Dreams At the Goodnight Motel Now in Easier-to-Read Paperback

[image error]I’m excited to announce that Sweet Dreams at the Goodnight Motel is now available in easier-to-read paperback. This is not large print, but is larger than normal text, with more space between lines. Dark print on quality pale cream paper, and the book larger overall. I thought it cost more, but it costs less than Little Town, Great Big Life.

Here is a photo for comparison. The top book is Sweet Dreams at the Goodnight Motel, the book on the bottom Little Town, Great Big Life.

And the first p...

Widowhood, a new kind of country

[image error]Five years ago in May my husband became ill. Suddenly the strong man–my partner, lover, best friend–upon whom I had leaned in a myriad of ways for forty-four years, since we were both in our teens, was incapacitated. He died within two months, shattering my life to pieces.

Almost immediately following my husband’s death, my mother took a downward turn and needed constant care. There was either me or paid caregivers, sometimes around the clock, for the following three and a half years, until I...

Inspiration from Mystery Writer Carolyn Hart

In researching something else, I came across this inspiring video of Carolyn Hart receiving the 2014 Grand Master Award from The Mystery Writers of America.

I was blessed to have Carolyn Hart as my first writing teacher at the University of Oklahoma professional writing program. She nurtured me into my dream of being a writer. She maintains that people who read mysteries believe in goodness. I can still hear her, when teaching a class, saying, “What we write matters. The words we use matter.”...

Me and My Travel Trailer, Episode 5

I thought for the few of you who followed my RVing adventures last fall, that I would post an update. I believe I have gone out camping now four times since I last posted. I’m losing count, and that’s a good thing. I am happy to report that I have made much progress in learning the skills needed for towing and using the little travel trailer.

[image error]In fact, last week, when I was hitching up the trailer for Grandson and I to go for a few days at a Florida state park, Grandson said, “You’re gettin’ a...

Book Recommendation–Sisters, by Kellie Coates Gilbert

Sisters, by Kellie Coates Gilbert. This is the first of Gilbert’s Sun Valley series. The description for Sisters says: “Set in America’s original ski resort, Sun Valley, Idaho—SISTERS offers a thought-provoking look at three women . . . and the choices they make when they realize their lives aren’t exactly what they expected.

That sentence intrigued me, because I’ve learned that life rarely turns out as expected. I think one of the major lessons in life is that there is going to be a lot of...

The Write House Publishes The Front Porch

I’m excited to announced that I have joined with a group of talented women’s fiction authors to form a consortium we’ve named The Write House. Our aim is to help each other promote our work with deeper and wider interaction with readers. I imagine you are like me, and when I enjoy a novel, the first thing I want to do is to know more about the author. And we authors also enjoy getting to know our readers, too!

Our authors are quite a diverse lot. I’m sure you recognize many of us, and maybe s...

Book Recommendations

In recent weeks, I’ve finished a couple of good books that I want to pass along to my reader friends.

The House of Unexpected Sisters, No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, by Alexander McCall Smith. I always buy this series, and in hardback. That shows how much I know I will like it. These books are for savoring. Since being introduced to the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books years ago by two writer friends, I have looked forward to each one in turn. Now they crowd my shelf of favorite boo...
