Starting over
I realised this week that it's now 20 years since Earthdream was published. It doesn't seem possible that so much time has passed since that exciting moment of first seeing my work in print. The author of that book feels like something of a stranger to me right now. It is not only that I wouldn't write the same book now, it's that I simply couldn't write that book. It was both a product of where I was in my relatively young life, and also of where the world stood at that time. Both have moved on ... but I do believe that the message has just as much relevance now as it had then.
It rather got buried at the time of publication. Way before the advent of the internet, and from a small publisher, there was little scope for marketing and promotion. The five years I took out of work to write the book had left me with no money and I was immediately back into a 'proper' job. I was also just married at that point, and then children came along, and then a business, which failed, and then another business, and ... in short, life happened, as it does, and my Earthdream soon became a distant memory.
But the children are pretty much grown up now, even if they haven't quite left the nest yet. My wife is just about to leave the nest - which is OK because we remain great friends. My latest business is going well and although still very demanding of my time, there is perhaps now enough spare to begin to devote a little to this big dream of mine. I'm intrigued to try to tap into the power of the web and see what might be possible. The journey begins here.
The destination is not so important. It might not end up anywhere particularly significant, but it's important to me that I at least set out. That was the pledge that I made all those years ago. If I meet a few fellow earthdreamers along the way, and we can inspire a few others, then that in itself will make the effort while. Why not follow me?

Earthdreaming
To have no dream is to have no vision. And to have no vision is to have no future.
