Use Your Brain...Your WHOLE Brain
Please welcome my uber talented and super patient business coach Ormand Rankin. As he explains the importance of using your WHOLE brain.
Use Your Brain

In many of my workshops I talk about our brains how we as humans may not be using them to the full potential.
Here is a little bit about how our brain and how learning works.
The “left brain” organizes what already exists and thinks linearly. There is a sequential, analytical process toward a specific outcome.
The “right brain” imagines what can be and thinks in nonlinear interconnections. It has immediate access to insights and novel connections.
Cultivating the use of both sides leads to breakthroughs and the ability to think on your feet under pressure.
In today’s rapidly changing business environment, we are required to be innovative to stay on top. Generating new ideas, visions or solutions is nearly impossible to do if we continue to use our habitual way of thinking. Our thought patterns will travel down the same neural pathways in your our brain the way they always do and come up with the same ideas you typically have. To think in an innovative way requires new connections with the brain, breaking patters. Research shows that by activity engaging the brain’s capacity from both hemispheres, you have a larger “playing field” from which to create – there is more cross-fertilization between neural synapses which leads to original ideas and those “A-Ha” moments.
Here is a look at a whole brain dimensions chart

After looking through the dimensions chart, decide what side of the brain you work with most. What are your dominant thinking patterns? Where is there room for skill development for more whole brain thinking?
In meetings or brainstorming sessions, do not be afraid to get out blocks, LEGO’s and Crayons to tap into your creative side. Also, throw out the lined paper. Lines have a subconscious effect on us which keep the brain locked in its habitual thought patterns. When you remove the lines, the brain is free to think visually instead of just in words and the Crayons will have a stimulating effect on the brain, because the right brain thinks in color.
Have fun with your new innovative way of thinking!

Does Your Reputation Suck Online?

I'm just pleased as punch to introduce my new Monday feature. From now on you can look forward to hearing from guest bloggers on a variety of subjects. Some of which will include... online marketing and reputationssocial media marketingtips for authors and writerspublishing industry infobloggingemail marketingfinding balance in home and work lifeetcToday we start with Russ Nosalaski of eBlitz Group. They specialize in online reputation and internet marketing. Russ and I are in a local networking group called Local Impact Zone. LIZ is based off the Law of Reciprocity which basically means give first without thinking of yourself.
Please make Russ feel welcome. And I'm so grateful he would take the time to share his expertize.

Does Your Reputation Suck Online?
You need to have an internet presence, as the internet arguably is one of the most powerful marketing platforms available. If you are marketing your business and have a bad online reputation you are throwing some of that money down the drain because your potential customers and clients will be looking you up online to see what others are saying about you and your business. What is online reputation management for small business about? Here are some things you should know:Your reputation is available for everyone to see online. If you Google your business name you will be able to see what others have said about the experience they had with you or your company. Online review sites such as Google Plus, Yelp, Urban Spoon and Foursquare provide a dedicated space for customers to leave reviews. In addition to review sites your company’s reputation is affected by comments on industry forums, social media sites, online articles, blog posts, public record documents and more. Why you need to care about your online reputation: There are two different searches your customers and clients are doing every day. One search type is when your potential customers and clients are searching for your service or product in the search engines. The second search type is even more important, in my opinion, than the first and that is when your potential customers and clients are searching for your company’s name. The statistics tell us that 90 percent of all consumers research the internet when looking for a business to deal with. That means that they will see what others have said about your company and that will affect if they want to do business with your or not. How to assess what your reputation is online?Simply search in Google for your business name and see what results you get. (You might also want to search your name, the names of your high-profile employees, your brand and your product/service.) How to manage your online reputation?1) Monitor your online reputation. Every so often search your business name and see what people are saying.2) Respond to your reviews: You need to join the conversation online that is happening about your company. One way to do that is to respond to reviews that you are getting so that others will see that you care. 3) Implement a plan of action in order to get reviews from satisfied customers. 4) Market your online reputation. Once you have a positive online reputation show it off by marketing it to potential customers and clients.Don’t leave your reputation online up to chance. Take control of your online reputation today.

5 Lessons Entrepreneurs can learn from Moonshiners
5 Lessons Entrepreneurs can learn from Moonshiners

A brief history on moonshining… Our first president George Washington was a moonshiner. After serving as our president he came back to Mt Vernon and made shine. Moonshining is illegal. It’s a potent alcohol made from corn and water. It is a dangerous venture. But it’s been around since our country was founded. So there must be something about it that works…right?According to Wikipedia…Moonshine, also known as white lightning, mountain dew, hoochor Tennessee white whiskey, is a high-proof distilled spirit, generally produced illicitly. The word is believed to derive from the term "moonrakers" used for early English smugglers and the clandestine (i.e., by the light of the moon) nature of the operations of illegal Appalachiandistillers who produced and distributed whiskey.[1][2]
Now most of your know that I’m southern and damn proud of it. However, I can neither deny or confirm that moonshining runs in my family blood line. However, I can’t help but think it must if I get so much fun making laundry detergent. Then there are all those old jugs around my grandparents’ house.Paw Paw called it “homebrew” he made.
It’s my hope that you take away these 5 little tips and can apply them to your own business. They are tried and true methods that have served shiners well for many generations. Perhaps even my own…

It Ain't About You A Writer's Verbal Vomit
Write what you don’t know

Have you ever listened to Adele? You know that beautiful girl with hips and awesome eyelashes and big hair from Europe. Anyways, I’m a huge fan. She’s amazing. Usually I just let her songs play while my mind wonders. In fact I have a whole Pandora Channel dedicated to her.
This morning as I was listening to “Turning Tables” I noticed some of her lyrics more so than usual. Then “Love Song” played and this one particular phrase popped out I won’t let you close enough to hurt me. I thought, “ Holy cow… some douche bag really put this girl through a lot.”
Then I had a “Woa Nelly” moment.
Perhaps she didn’t’ even write the song. Maybe she’s had anything but amazing and mutually amicable relationships (I know I’m wrong. The woman couldn’t be that good and not know the pain.) that ended on good terms.
Why would I stop and try and rationalize that it might not be her experience?Because as an author I’m constantly fighting this stigma. Conversations like these seem to be popping up more and more. And because of the sass that I am I can’t help but respond…well sassylike.
Q: Is this person inspired by me? A:I don’t know are you a witch from Slavatia too?I'm not sure how that's possible since I made up the entire realm and all it's sister realms.
Q:Why does it sound like he looks like me? A: I don’t know. Do you have a reading problem. Honestly when I described his shoulders as broad and chiseled, I wasn’t thinking of your 5’5 beer bellied self?
Q: You call yourself a Christian. But you write about witches. Don't you feel like a hypocrite?A: No...Lucky for you I am a Christian now and I quit carrying those brass knuckles I loved so much as a teenager or you'd have a very wealthy dentist.
The point is my dear readers as writers and creators we do that. We write. We create.
If I write a story about a woman who has an affair on her jackass of a husband doesn’t mean my husband is a jackass or that I’m having an affair. It could of just been inspired by a really good Army Wives episode.
Instead of looking for drama and controversy outside the story enjoy what is already there in front of you. It's fiction. I've created for you to have fun with. And nothing more.
So let’s have it authors…ever face these issues? I know you’ve at least been afraid of it. Has it kept you from writing or releasing a novel? Do tell ya'll...Please.

Facebook Graph Search Great Marketing for Writers
Facebook Graph Search Great Marketing for Writers

Will it continue?
Will it go away forever?
Hell if I know? I haven’t talked to Amazon. And frankly my mind doesn’t sit around whining about what I can’t control. I have looked at what has stayed and what’s to come.LIKES!You should be asking, “Why do I care if Facebook Likes are still on my book page on Amazon?”
Good question. And I have an answer. In fact I’m in the middle of an experiment and I’ll share my ideas and findings with you over the next few weeks.
But first…
You need to understand that the new Facebook Graph Search is powered by Likes and keywords. Just like tags and reviews power Amazon’s search algorithm.
Where the Graph Search pulls it’s information is from your tribe! Your friends! Your Peeps Yo!
Let me share an example. Say you go to the Google search app on your phone or PC and you search for “paranormal romance author.” Google will give the same answer based off SEO manipulation from the use of keywords in sites and blogs EVERYWHERE on the internet.
Now say you search for “paranormal romance author” within the new Facebook Graph Search. The Graph Search will use keywords and likes from within your friends on Facebook. The algarhythum will calculate from within your tribe the Likes they have hit on pages, on AMAZON, on websites, and then those pages keywords to help compile a list to choose from of the top paranormal romance authors suggested by YOUR peeps!
This has the potential to be AMAZING!
But there is a lot to test and digest. This is just my first post.
If you want to hear more make sure you follow the blog. If you want to get posts sent directly to your email sign up below.
And you can also get blog posts sent directly to your phone by texting briclark to 90210.
Stay tuned for the next installment where you can leverage Facebook to get your books to stand out beyond an author page and profile.

Traitors

Lucien Lemoine' couldn't believe his eyes. The scene before him was so shocking, he wished he could blink and make it go away.
Alistair Cyrille had been Lucien's loyal second in command in their clan of eternals for two centuries. Unfortunately, the scene before Lucien suggested that he had committed treason. The procreating with other races, specifically mortals, was taboo. "Eternal only mates with eternal" was a law enacted a century ago because the half-breed abominations were unmoral, volatile, and not bound by the same laws and restrictions as a pureblood, thus making them dangerous.
From The Familial Witch available on Amazon for $0.99

Facebook Graph Search is Great for Local Businesses
Facebook Graph Search is Great for Local Business

It is with the utmost excitement that I tell you how amazing that the new Facebook Graph Searchcan be a powerful tool for brick and mortar businesses, local businesses, and small business owners. I’m even more excited that all those likes you’ve been working your hind end off for on your Facebook business page are going to finally pay off with this feature.
You need to understand that the new Facebook Graph Search is powered by Likes and keywords. Just like keywords and reviews power Google or Yelp’s search engines. Where the Facebook Graph Search pulls it’s information is from your tribe! Your friends! Your Peeps Yo! And you can decide which peeps they are!
Say you go to you the Google search app on your phone or PC and you search for “coffee shop” Google will give the same answer based off SEO manipulation from the use of keywords in sites and blogs EVERYWHERE on the internet as well as taking into consideration GPS location if on a mobile device.
Now say you search for “coffee shop” within the new Facebook Graph Search. The Facebook Graph Search will use keywords and likes from within your friends on Facebook. The algarhythum will calculate from within your tribe the Likes they have hit on pages suggested by YOUR peeps
This has the potential to be AMAZING!
Take for example this screen shot I’ve done below.

I’ve decided to use a Local Networking Group that I adore called Local Impact Zone as my area I concentrate my search. 1. I searched for “liked coffee shops” within my friends in the LIZ Group. (using search phrases is a great part of this new search)2. Immediately the profiles of my friends popped up and I noticed a pattern in the first few. (You’ll also notice to the side you can control more elements like groups, gender, age etc for the search criteria)3. They each liked “The Perks of Life Coffee Shop” in Eagle. 4. Well I’m near there so why not head on over. My friends like it!(The blacked out area is blacked out for a reason. Don’t ask I’d have to kill ya.)
And just like that you have an example of how the new Facebook Graph Search can be beneficial to local brick and mortar businesses. I’ll be heading your way with more tips in a few days. Make sure to subscribe my email or text briclark to 90210 to get blog posts on your mobile phone.
Are you as excited as I am?
