“If we are to have a feminist YA, we must write about all the girls, not just the ones that are “likeable”. Because “likeable” is just another way of prescribing a right way to be a girl. Because girls and women are complicated and deep and layered and messy and infinitely fascinating. Because if male characters are allowed to be those things and still be worthy of reading, so should female characters. Because I don’t want to read just one kind of woman. Because I don’t want to be one kind of...

i just started these broken stars and i'm looking for a playlist or something to accompany it. is there any music you find matches the story or any songs that inspired you while writing?

I personally don’t listen to music while writing, but I DO listen to music prior to writing and while daydreaming/brainstorming about my stories. So music is inextricably linked to my writing process even though I write in silence.

And we did actually create an official playlist for These Broken Stars! You can find it here. We ran a contest where fans could submit their own fav songs they felt matched the book, and ended up including two of the entries in the final list.

Though we have songs for...

“People were stupid, sometimes. They thought the Library was a dangerous place because of all the magical books, which was true enough, but what made it really one of the most dangerous places there could ever be was the simple fact that it was a library.”

i love garrett and his tiny bf

It’s the “Fenris is always too drunk to stand” that slays me. And makes me want to do an entire replay just so that I can imagine Fenris is drunk the entire time.

March book haul!
Read The Kiss of Deception (which I thoroughly enjoyed though it was a bit slow paced at first, might put out a review for it) and These Broken Stars (which was very unexpected, but in a good way. I need more of Lilac and Tarver).
Also very excited to read Throne of Glass and The Orphan Queen!

How can people get a Skylark postcard?

Unfortunately, there’s no way right now. I have only a couple of them left (literally) and I suspect I’ll be keeping them for myself. If a box of them turns up somewhere (which does happen sometimes) I might run a contest or something, but for now, I’m sorry, there is no way!

You can get Skylark bookmarks (as well as Starbound Trilogy bookmarks) by writing me and including a SASE, though! And that offer stands any time. Go here for details on how to send a SASE.
