A Visit from Lisa Bilbrey and Journey of Champions

The Journey of Champions summary—Travis McCoy thought the journey home would be the hardest choice he ever had to make. It isn’t until he finds himself walking out the door and leaving his family behind that he realizes his journey is only just beginning. Now, with only a handful of weeks until Christmas, Travis tries to find his way back home. This time, he plans on staying forever.Excerpt—An hour later, Penelope parked in front of Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. The trip had been filled with awkward conversations mixed with deafening silence. She had prattled on about what she and Max had planned for the coming week. While Travis knew it was just her way of trying to distract him, it hadn’t worked. All he could think about was how he’d miss one more of Max’s football games, how he wouldn’t be able to hear about Mr. Nickels giving too much homework or to read with him before bedtime. These were all things that he had gotten used to doing, and now he wouldn’t be able to — not until he came back, anyway. They climbed out of the car without speaking, Travis grabbed his bags from the trunk, and they walked into the airport. Penelope stayed next to the sliding doors while he checked in for his flight and picked up his tickets. Turning back to her, he swallowed against the lump in his throat. Saying goodbye to Max had been hard, but the thought of leaving Penelope had Travis trembling.“Well, I guess this is it,” Penelope said with a wistful sigh. She placed her hand on his chest and sniffed back her tears. “I thought I could do this without crying.”“If you cry, I won’t be able to go,” Travis murmured. She smiled. “Then maybe I should start sobbing.” She shifted her attention up to him. “Promise me that you’ll come home.”“I promise,” Travis replied. “I promise to come back to you and Max. Just remember that I love you, Penelope.”“I love you, too,” she whimpered before leaning up and brushing her lips across his. “Hurry back to me, love.”“As fast as I can,” he whispered.Somehow — and he wasn’t sure how — Travis managed to pull himself away from her. He fought the urge to claw at the ache in the middle of his chest. Just the few seconds that he’d already spent away from her had him rattled. How was he supposed to go a week or longer without holding her in his arms or feeling her gentle kiss?In a daze, Travis managed to get through the security check-point and down to his gate. Settling down on one of the hard, plastic seats, he placed his elbows on his knees and rested his forehead against the palms of his hands. His stomach was in knots, and more than a few times he swallowed against the bile that had been creeping its way up his throat. Just when he was about to hightail it to the nearest restroom, someone sat down next to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. Travis looked up, gasping when he saw Russ there.“Didn’t think I was gonna make it before they called for our flight,” Russ chuckled before he could utter a sound. “What the hell are you doing here?” Travis asked.Russ smiled and shook his head. “I’m coming with you, boy. I once made the mistake of letting you go. I’ll be damned if I let it happen again. Besides, Miami is a huge part of your life, Travis. It’s time for me to see it, don’t you think?”“But I thought you hated to fly.” Travis lifted an eyebrow in his father’s direction. “I do,” Russ admitted. “But for you, I’m willing to give it a go. Just don’t laugh at me if I get a little scared. If people were meant to fly, God would have given us wings.”Travis laughed. “You have my word, Dad.”“Good,” Russ muttered, stretching his feet out in front of him. “Dad, thank you for coming with me,” Travis said, his voice sincere. “It means a lot.”“You’re welcome, Travis. Today is a new start for both of us — a new journey.”Travis nodded. “The journey to forever.”

A Day in the Life
So, you want to experience a day in my life, huh? Are you sure? Okay, well, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Seven in the morning, I get up, get my kids up. Which sounds easy, but it is not. My daughter, age ten, is not a morning person and fights against me when I try to get her up. First, we start by me gently nudging her awake. Then, we go with a firm voice telling her get her butt out of the bed. Finally, we go with the yelling and me threatening to take away everything she loves if she doesn’t get up. Fun, right? Yeah, that’s where the fun is just starting.
The next struggle is getting her to check her blood glucose and eat breakfast. She’s a diabetic, and has to prink her finger with a lancet before she can eat anything. Once we get that done, I force food down her throat. She’s not a breakfast eater, but her blood glucose does better when she gets at least fifteen carbs in the morning.
Once we’re all dressed and fed, I drive them to school. My oldest recently had a surgical screw put in his foot after breaking the same bone twice in less than six months. He uses a knee scooter, which is better than crutches, but still not ideal, ya know? I drop him off first, and then take my daughter to the elementary school. My middle son walks to school since he had athletics first off. With the kids safely at school, I come home and make a cup of coffee and settle down in front of my laptop. I spend the first hour of my morning doing laundry, cleaning house, and catching up on emails and the multiple chat boxes we use on Skype to run our publishing house. After I have those done, I either start writing or editing, all depending on what’s on the days schedule. Sometimes, I catch a nap.
Just before lunch, I run up to the school and pick up my oldest, driving him from the high school around to the AG building, which is about five hundred yards apart. With his foot being busted, it’s really hard for him to make it to get to class on time.
I pick him back up for lunch, and feed him before taking him back to school. Then I go back to editing/writing until the kids get home from school, and the husband from work. Then, the real fun begins.
On a typical night, we have basketball, boy/girl scouts, church, baseball, football. There is rarely a night when we don’t have something—usually more than one something—going on. While my day is busy, I wouldn’t pass it up for anything. I love my life, I love my family. To me, it’s perfect.

Wecome to Lorenz Font and Hunted

Hunted, Book One of The Gates Legacy

Deep in the heart of New York City’s underworld, a horrible disease is ravaging the vampire community. The Vampire Council is on a crusade to obliterate those infected, and Harrow Gates is target Number One. The unwitting source of the plague, he suffers from the same nightmarish symptoms as his victims. The world he'd been thrust into was cold, cruel, and intent on eradicating him, and the legions of afflicted vampires he created with his bite. A bounty hanging over his head, satisfying his hunger has become an enormous challenge for Harrow. The less he feeds, the more hideous and painful his lesions become. Constantly running for his life and learning new tricks to survive, Harrow is in no position to refuse when Pritchard Tack offers him a unique opportunity. Pritchard not only gives Harrow a new beginning, but also a purpose and a chance to rectify the chaos he created in the vampire world. However, the multi-billionaire has an agenda of his own. Jordan is a reluctant new vampire and a woman on a mission. After the demise of her family and her own transformation at the hands of Goran, the ruthless leader of the Vampire Council, her only focus is revenge. Constantly faced with one frustrating dead-end after another, a stroke of luck leads her to an underground facility that she suspects is the lair of the monster for whom she is looking. Upon learning more about the truth behind the secret bunker, Jordan must fight against her growing feelings of friendship and concern for the facility’s inhabitants. One man in particular threatens to pull her heart away from her sworn mission. There is something behind Harrow’s dark lenses that unsettles the hardened female. Once again, she trembles and hungers for something other than red-stained revenge. Is love strong enough to override her hate-fueled thirst for vengeance?

Author Bio:

Lorenz Font discovered her love of writing after reading a celebrated novel that inspired one idea after another. Hunted, the first book of The Gates Legacy trilogy, is her debut novel. Written in forty-five days, the grueling writing schedule was a personal challenge, even though she thought it was madness at first.
She enjoys dabbling in different genres with an intense focus on angst and the redemption of flawed characters. Her fascination with romantic twists is a mainstay in all her stories.
She currently lives in California with her husband, children, and two demanding dogs. Lorenz spends most of her free time writing while also working as a Business Office Manager for a skilled-rehabilitation hospital.
We have two excerpts for you to pick from, or you can put them both up!

As Hunted, my first published novel, is finally out, I’m focusing on the edits of Indivisible Line. It’s a romance novel set in the beautiful city of Beaver, Alaska and New York City. It centers on Sarah Jones, a medical student and a member of the Gwich’in tribe. She is torn between her inherent loyalty to serve her people and the urge to spread her wings. Her priorities shifted when she met Greg Andrews, a rich businessman shot on their land. Sarah was faced with the decision of helping him out despite the limited provisions their tribe had and the laws that governed them.
Here’s a brief summary:
Sarah Jones, a fledgling doctor-to-be, doesn’t question her life’s purpose. A daughter of the Chief of a small Gwich’in Tribe in Beaver, Alaska, she accepts her ultimate fate as the town’s future doctor and consequent wife to Trimble Meda, the man she is promised to marry since birth. Despite her quiet protest, Sarah acknowledges her destiny. She accepts their tribe’s outdated traditions of arranged marriages, servitude and even the unspoken racial line. One day, Sarah is confronted by a life and death decision, testing her beliefs and everything she ever stood for. Greg Andrews, an affluent businessman and avid hunter went to Alaska on a private hunting tour with Cade, his best friend, only to find himself shot by Cade and fighting for his life. Sarah and Greg’s path’s cross the day he is brought to the clinic. Sarah faces an enormous choice, ignore the ethical implications and defy her father’s strict beliefs in order to save Greg’s life. Opting for the latter, she performs an impromptu surgery and crude blood transfusion. Sarah manages to save Greg and give him a part of her heart in the process.Indivisible Linewill be coming your way July 15, 2013, so please watch for this story. After Indivisible Line, the next installment of The Gates Legacy, Tormented, is next. The edit is happening as we speak. The sequel to Hunted is a continuation of Tor, Harrow, and Rohnert’s effort to hide from the Vampire Council who continually hunts them. Tormented focuses on Tor and Allison finding love amid the chaos around them. It is full of surprises and is guaranteed to have you asking for the last book in the trilogy to come sooner. Tormented will hit the shelves in September.Last but not the least this year for me is my Romantica novel entitled Feather Light. A top three finisher in The MASTERpiece contest and will be published by another publishing house. I will talk more about it before it launches on October 10.Then of course, the last of the trilogy, which is titled Ascension, will be coming out in early spring next year. This will cap the last of The Gates Legacy Trilogy.

Excerpt from Hunted:

“There really isn’t a second scenario, we’re dead set and conceptually right about the first one.” Pritchard chuckled. Harrow hissed under his breath, unable to control his hunger any longer. “You need to feed. I know Tor rudely interrupted your dinner. Intel confirms that needle in your pocket, meant you’re not advocating the spread of the disease, am I right?”
Harrow shuddered before nodding. His could feel his strength fading and there wasn’t a damn thing he could do about it. This human, in all of his infinite wisdom, should give him his neck and be done with.
“I know what you’re thinking Harrow,” Pritchard laughed without humor. “I’m not the enemy here, or your dinner. I will take you to a cell for now, where you will be fed donated blood until we find a cure for that ailment. Neither of you are prisoners here, but until we are certain that you’re not a threat to us humans, you will not be allowed to move around freely.”
Pritchard rose to his feet. “Follow me,” he told Harrow.
“What about these damn cuffs on our leg, we’re not animals you know.” Tor said and his voice thundered through the room. He was already up on his feet and facing off with Lambert, who was sporting a push dagger, notably of Dangeran material.
“They are trackers, in case you are out there,” Lambert motioned with his hand. “We will know how to find you.”
“Just like we’re dogs, right?” Tor said distastefully.
“Yes, but very special dogs,” Lambert said, taunting as he grabbed Tor’s elbow and shoved him forward to follow Pritchard and Harrow. They were already walking down the long corridor that eventually led them to a windowless suite. The furnishings were top-rated, lavish to be exact. There were two king-sized beds, a state of the art sound system sitting next to a giant television, expensive looking art adorned the wall, and plush carpeting to boot.

Another Excerpt:

The loneliness gnawed at him hard. He had gone to visit his family several times over the course of the following years and had witnessed firsthand the sorrow in their faces when they thought they’d lost him. He watched his parents from the shadows and saw their hearts were broken, not knowing what had become of their son.
Eventually, they passed away, and Harrow felt loneliness like a knife speared permanently in his heart.
He was indeed a freak, as he’d been branded by Tor, but not for the reason Tor had concluded. Harrow was a vampire with a conscience, a disease, and a shaky future ahead of him. He was fucked — as fucked as he could get.

Welcome, Pam Funke!

Book excerpt:

Chee Tsang, China’s Chief Executive, gathered the country’s military officials together. He was ready for payback. How dare Israel attack his beloved country?
Beijing is now just a smoldering disaster zone. This fact alone both angered and saddened him.
General Baojia Chan stood nearby looking over intelligence and working out a war strategy in his head. First we will attack Israel with missiles then a surprise attack with our massive army.
“General, I want your opinion about something. What will we gain from this? How will this attack on Israel benefit the people of China?” Chee Tsang asked.
General Chan looked back at the papers he was reviewing before looking at Mr. Chee Tsang. “Well, I think that this will only work as long as we contain the element of surprise. We then enter the country from here and here,” Baojia said pointing at the military map.
“I see. But would we not have a greater advantage point from here and here,” Chee asked.
“I have planned for the Immediate Action Unit to drop forces in at those locations,” General Chan replied.
“But I thought that we primarily used them to protect the country from terrorism, riots, and the like. If we use them in our attack, won’t that leave the country defenseless?” Chee asked.
“Yes, the IAU is primarily used for that purpose but as they are extremely good at tactical maneuvers we will be using them to strengthen our military forces. The Snow Leopard Commando Unit will be protecting our country while the military is deployed,” Baojia replied.
“Very well then, how long before we can make this happen?” Chee asked.
“It is being done as we speak sir. In a matter of hours we will have our troops in the air,” Baojia replied.
General Chan has done well, although I wish that he had waited for my approval. Chee turned and faced General Chan. “You are doing a fine job. As I am not needed here I will be off taking care of more pressing issues. Do not disappoint me,” Chee said. He then turned and left the room. General Chan turned back to his staff. “How much longer before the planes are loaded with the troops and equipment?” he asked.
“Sir, they will be ready for takeoff in approximately two and a half hours,” the young soldier replied.
“Excellent. Now I want you to launch the missiles at Israel. We will start by creating chaos and panic and then the real fun begins,” General Chan ordered.
“Yes sir,” the soldier replied. He then typed in the target locations, the order codes, and hit send.
