Theory of Everything: How I Spent My Summer Vacation (or at least, the important part):

If you’ve ever met me, then there’s a 99% chance you’ve heard me talk about VC Andrews and how much I love Flowers in the Attic. (This is not an exaggeration.) If you’ve never read Flowers in the Attic and made the mistake of mentioning this to me, you’ve probably also been treated to my…

Read this then read the awesome interview it links to at the end. And I don’t know about anyone else, but I want to read that memoir IMMEDIATELY.

BOOKS YOU NEED TO READ, BUY, AND SHARE
↳ The Witch of Duva (Grisha Trilogy #0.5), Shadow and Bone (Grisha Trilogy #1), The Tailor (Grisha Trilogy #1.5), Siege and Storm (Grisha Trilogy #2), The Too-Clever Fox (Grisha Trilogy #2.5), Ruin and Rising* (Grisha Trilogy #3)

Amazingly well written and incredibly interesting books and short companion stories by Leigh Bardugo. I jumped into this series earlier this year and have been in love from the start. I regret nothing. Here’s the description from B&N:

Alina Starkov doesn’t expect much from life. Orphaned by the Border Wars, all she’s ever been able to rely on is her best friend and fellow refugee, Mal. And lately not even that seems certain. Drafted into the army of their war-torn homeland, they’ve been sent on a dangerous mission into the Fold, a swath of darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh.

When their convoy is attacked, all seems lost until Alina reveals a dormant power that not even she knew existed. She is torn from everything she knows and whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling. He believes that she is the answer the people have been waiting for: the Sun Summoner. Only her power can destroy the Fold.

Overwhelmed by luxury, envied as the Darkling’s favorite, Alina struggles to keep her wits about her without Mal by her side. But nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her mastery of her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha—and the secrets of her heart.

I think the best order is probably reading Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, and then the companion stories. Personally, I adore The Tailor immensely, so I’d recommend reading that after Shadow and Bone. I urge all of my followers to request it at their libraries if it isn’t already there. Check it out, read it, buy it, tell all your mates about it, and make pretty things or request pretty things from myself or any number of fans (such as Lizzie or Angelina, if they’re free!).

Check it out here on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Goodreads

*Ruin and Rising is set for release sometime in 2014

1. These lovely people take requests.

2. Posts like this just make me feel so bloody grateful and happy. Thank you for pushing the books and being marvelous humans

Hello!

As some of you have kindly noticed, Alba hasn’t updated in a few weeks, and for this I’m terribly, terribly sorry. I promised myself early on to treat it professionally and stick to as much of a schedule as I could manage, but I’m afraid I’ve done a terrible job at it.

Continuing with today’s “holy shiz how these ladies get so talented” trend: AmBrose (aka @bookwormbeaut) sent me this Shadow and Bone inspired song she wrote (and performs!). Gorgeous cover art is by Courtney (aka @sootballs) who I got to meet at SDCC.

Love you guys. For serious.

"For the living and the dead, she would make herself a reckoning. She would rise."

This started out as “Let’s do a Siege and Storm Grisha Army quote!” and turned into “Let’s go for the epic illuminated manuscript!” It took me 8 hours over two nights to complete. Ink and acrylic paint on parchment.

I didn’t hide much stuff within this piece as I did in the one I did for Leigh, but there’s two things: the circles at the bottom were inspired by the map, and look at the illuminated S, W, and R and see if you can figure out what I did there :)

So much talent. I really can’t take it. Those letters are just extraordinary. And that firebird… lawd.
