Jeopardy! is having a Battle of the Decades tournament, 15 players from each decade the show’s been on, and the 15th player is being voted on by viewers. A guy I know named Ryan Chaffee is up for a Fan Favorite spot, a great trivia player and all-around hilarious dude, and it would be…
Okay, I cannot explain these worlds colliding, but I went to school with Ryan and he is, in fact, HILARIOUS, and I have no idea what his connection to tumblrofthrones may be, but I salute it.
GO VOTE FOR HIM!

The Priestess - Leilani Bustamante
//Hi! I was wondering, was Ravka at war before the Darkling created the Fold? If so, how serious was the war? Was Ravka on the losing side, the winning side, or just barely hanging on (like the situation during Shadow and Bone)? Thanks!
Ravka has had periods of war and periods of peace, but it has never been particularly friendly with its neighbors. Borders and alliances were constantly shifting. Sometimes Ravka came out on top and gained territory and treasure. Sometimes it was on the losing side.
The Fold marked the beginning of a long, slow decline for Ravka. It made the country vulnerable by robbing it of its coastline and limiting trade—putting it in a kind of economic stranglehold that the country’s enemies were eager to capitalize on. The situation was made worse by the fact that, instead of finding new ways to wage war, the monarchy relied heavily on a ready supply of largely expendable serf soldiers (First Army) and the Grisha (Second Army). By the time the action begins at the start of Shadow and Bone, Ravka is facing a tipping point. Advances in weaponry have become a very real threat to Grisha power, and First Army ranks have been thinned by constant war and careless leadership. As you put it, they’re “just barely hanging on.”
hi leigh! i just wanted to let you know that you have fans over in israel (it was a weirdly proud moment, finding out you were actually born here) and that once the hebrew translation comes out, i'm going to nag each and every one of my friends until they
What an awesome message to receive. Thank you! And I’m all for the nagging and waylaying of friends to foist books upon them

Because it is Teen Read Week, within National Reading Group Month, I feel compelled to remind everyone that our very own Young Adult Book Club is meeting tonight to discuss Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. If you’ve read the book, even if book club is not usually your thing, stop by and discuss it with us. We’re not your average book club.
How cool! Hope they enjoyed :)
Did you somewhat base the character of Alina off of Jane Eyre or am I drawing nonexistent parallels?
Huh. That’s interesting. Consciously? No. There are a lot of things that I love about Jane as a character and I can definitely see some parallels in Alina in that they are both small, contrary, overlooked, and harboring some serious strength. However… at the risk of courting the ire of Eyre fans everywhere, I have always been deeply creeped out by that book. Rochester’s descriptions of Jane give me the willies (admittedly, it’s been a while since I read it so maybe the most recent adaptation played the whole “freshness” angle up further), and frankly, my sympathies lie with Bertha. Given the situation, I think her response was pretty much on point i.e. BURN IT DOWN.

Have I just had too much coffee or are there a lot of narrative layers playing out in this edit?
