Read the first five chapters from Truthwitch, a wonderful tale of friendship by Susan Dennard.
In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble–as two desperate young women know all too well.
Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.
Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her&mdashbut she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safiya’s hotheaded impulsiveness.
Safiya and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and privateer) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

Alive, Disabled, and Essential: How Leigh Bardugo’s 'Six of Crows' Series Made Me Feel Real
The only place that I really existed, that I let myself expand, was at home with my mom and our books. My mom, like me, was disabled, and it was something that was celebrated in our house. Yet despite the way that books have held me up over the years, it’s rare to find myself completely in a book. As a queer, disabled woman, I’m often disappointed to find that characters that are like me are killed off, magically cured, or otherwise disposable in the end.
Alaina has written so personally and generously about SoC. I’m truly honored.

{ Rhy Maresh & Alucard Emery } - Shades of Magic series by @veschwab
Hey possums. So, I feel very strongly about representation in texts and I want to celebrate some of the fabulous queer characters I’ve read and watched to, 1) say thanks to the creators for representing queer people, and 2) get the word out there for people looking to find some queer positive texts. I’ve got a number of characters lined up from series like Six of Crows, the Raven Cycle, Captive Prince, Rat Queens and the Watchmaker of Filigree Street and I can’t wait to draw them all!
However, the characters I’ve come across are predominantly male, so if anyone has recommendations for texts with female and genderqueer people I would really appreciate it!
Have a nice day xx
