TRIGGER WARNING⚠️⚠️⚠️ It’s #suicidepreventionmonth so I would like to share my story and raise awareness. I have had symptoms of depression for at least 15 years and long before being diagnosed I had awful thoughts. I was always extremely sensitive and cried very easily so I felt like a burden a lot of times. In any conflict I wondered if everyone’s life would be better off without me. My mental illness made me unable to stay in a job for more than a week. I saw my friends working and living while I couldn’t be normal. I had a very toxic family relationship where I constantly heard abusive things that reinforced the idea that I was worthless and problematic - I believed people didn’t want to deal with me. All of it made me feel overwhelmed and one day I tried to cut my wrist. I can’t say I wanted to die because I really don’t know what I was feeling, I just wanted to hurt myself. Thank God I had only made a very shallow cut when I was interrupted by my family. I’ll never forget the pain I saw in their eyes and how guilty I felt. I never did it again . I learned that life is precious and that thousands of people felt like me. That I was loved and had so much to offer. That the good days always come again and absolute everything passes. As hard as it is today, be curious about tomorrow. I promise wonderful things will happen. Don’t ever give up on life. The world is more beautiful with you in it. We need you
