Happy Birthday to Penelope Ellen Niven, my beautiful mother. ❤️ She was the most brilliant person I’ve ever known. And the loveliest. She sparkled. She glowed. She lived with joy. She lit up every room she walked into and she was everyone’s favorite person. She was inspiration and love, and she impacted lives profoundly. She had a gift for making others feel like they were the brightest, most special person on the planet because she truly, deeply cared about each of them and what they had to say. She was funny, silly, deep, and wise, vividly alive, and so incredibly strong. She was, as my granddaddy once observed, “the most complete person I have ever known.” Ever since I was a little girl, she encouraged me to dream big and to never limit myself. She showed me what unconditional love is, and taught me the importance of honoring your voice and your gifts. She was my champion, my soul mate, my best friend, my hero. And she was my sun.
