Here's the poster for the next Hobbit movie, "The Desolation of Smaug," arriving in theaters in December. Does the title mean that the dragon desolates or gets desolated or both? (No spoilers here!)

Interesting creative writing exercise: Observe how authors introduce a major female character. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald introduces Daisy by having a character say, "Her voice is full of money." Here's how Tolkien introduces Eowyn: "Grave and thoughtful was her glance, as she looked on the king with cool pity in her eyes. Very fair was her face, and her hair like a river of gold. Slender and tall she was in her white robe girt with silver. But strong she seemed and stern as steel, daughter of kings."
