She Seeks Peace, Week #1

"Reggie looked down the barrel of one of his own pistols, which the girl held in both hands, because the M1911 was a little large for someone so small.
There was a long, silent moment as the girl giggled and met his gaze. The murderous look was gone, replaced by something more playful, like a cat toying with a mouse. There was still a dangerous edge to it, however."
–Excerpt from She Seeks Peace.

I've started work on my next novel and made my first work in progress post to my blog about it.

She Seeks Peace is volume four of Ashen Blades, so if you're eager to find out what happens next in that series, you can follow along as I write the rough draft. I'll be posting a summary of each week's work on my blog, plus I'll be posting each week day on Mastodon, so please follow me there if you want to see more frequent updates.

Troll War, Week #8 (Complete)

"Stanton went on, 'King Joshua has found you both guilty of treason, based on the evidence and sworn testimony of the victims, alone,' she paused for dramatic effect, 'but you see, there’s a little problem with that.'
Windmaker squeezed the shoulders of Lady Gunn, while Shengis did the same to Lord Rolar, speaking in unison, 'Extradition!' "
― Excerpt from Troll War

My final weekly update on my writing process for Troll War has been posted, covering my work from August 12-16.

Further work in progress entries will be for a new project (to be decided), but only once the editing work for Troll War is complete, so there will likely be at least a two week pause between work in progress entries, while I focus on other things.

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my writing process!

Troll War, Week #7

"I have always known the important destiny of your soul and never doubted your calling. I chose you before you were formed in the womb, for only you could do the things you have and will do. You became a pirate, because you needed the strength to defy an empire, that you might save the last of my people. My hand is upon your actions. Go now and wield my hammer in faith."
― The Voice of Vok to Captain Vendros, an excerpt from Troll War

My seventh weekly update on my writing process for Troll War has been posted, covering my work from August 5 through August 9.

Troll War revolves around trolls going to war with dwarves, all as part of a pair of corrupt nobles trying to settle a bet regarding which race will win.

Coming Soon: Dark Moon

Ryan Johnson has finished work on the cover art for the fourth volume of The Wizard's Scion, titled 'Dark Moon'!

The release date has not yet been set, because I've still got editing to do, but this book will likely be available in the next two weeks.

The cover of Dark Moon, as illustrated by Ryan Johnson.

(Foreground) Levi and his rival, Cha'da, fight back to back on an island of the ocean as monsters drop down form the moon like meteorites.Levi and Cha'da each wield one of Levi's blaster pistols, which resemble shotgun revolvers.

Cha'da is somewhat shorter than Levi, wears a black, leather dress and matching, pointed hat to advertise her status as a witch. She wears a necklace of bone beads and silver bird skull earrings. She has red hair, blue eyes and freckles, though they're hard to see without looking very close. He face is tense, because she's angry with Levi.

Levi wears a long-sleeved black robe with golden trim and a pointed hat, to advertise his status as a wizard. He's somewhat turned to one side, so his face can be seen in profile.

(Background) Monsters splash down in the ocean after heating up in the atmosphere. The last remnants of the setting sun is on the horizon, making the sky yellow, pink and purple at the horizon and blue at the top of the image.

The full moon features prominently behind the heads of Levi and Cha'da, with meteorite-like objects (the monsters) streaming down all around them, leaving smoky trails in their wake, due to the friction of atmospheric entry. All such trails point back to the moon, which is the source of the invasion. Just a few of the monsters are splashing down in the ocean.

Troll War, Week #6

" 'No one needs me.' Et’aell gave the Captain a defiant look and then started to cry again.
The first officer shook his head, 'You have no idea how wrong you are.'
'Have you forgotten what day it is?' Vendros asked.
'It doesn’t matter what day it is, because Vok is dead!' Et’aell despaired, 'No day is more holy than another, because there is no more holiness and all we have left is just a matter of staving off our eternal punishment for just one more day! We’re doomed to burn in Xercil’s crematory and there’s nothing I can do about that!'
Captain Vendros spoke softly, 'That may be what you believe, but there’s a whole crew of people on this ship that believe otherwise, who’ve gathered for a Ten-day Service that only you can lead. They still have their faith. They still believe. They still need you. Will you abandon them, just as you seem to believe you’ve been abandoned by Vok?' "
― Excerpt from Troll War.

Troll War: Week #5

"In the blink of an eye, the firing squad was replaced by one lone copy of herself, one marksman with a cold expression of deep concentration on her face. Sureshot looked down the barrel of a rifle very much like her own; every little scratch, every mark on the stock, every single detail of the weapon was exactly as she remembered it, because it was her own rifle."
― Excerpt from Troll War.

My fifth weekly update on Troll War is out, covering my work from July 22-27.
