Miss Simone? I was wondering if I could get some advice. One of my friends is wanting to get an Italian Greyhound, and what with your love of/experience with them, I was wondering if I could get some advice from you for him on adopting them from rescue p
They are mostly very, very easy-going dogs, and they want to please their people. It should be relatively easy. They sleep more than most dogs, and they watch for cues on how to behave.
But remember, many have never been into a home before, they have been in a pen, then the track, then a rescue facility. They don’t know what glass is, or stairs, they sometimes don’t understand affection right away.
So there is a crucial step recommended by every responsible facility…someone has to stay with them the first 48 hours in your home. It can be several people taking turns. But it’s vital. They will not know how to behave, but will be willing to learn. This gives them time to learn to pee outside, what they are allowed to sit on, what they are allowed to do with food, etc. Once they are taught something in that period, they will likely remember it forever, and their anxiety will quickly calm down.
Can’t recommend this highly enough. Leaving them alone at all in that first 48 hours when they don’t know what the rules are allows them to learn behavior you have to teach them later to unlearn. Just have someone stay with them, it will make a huge difference.
They don’t need lots of exercise, they are snoozy. One long walk or two short ones is plenty. They should not be exposed to tiny animals in that first time, unless cleared by their facility. Our dogs are super gentle, but one has no interest in cats and the like, and the other is still very much a sight hound.
That’s most of it, they are incredibly easy dogs to take care of. Rarely needs baths, sleep all day, and they are loyal and loving. I cannot tell you how lovely they are. Good luck to all!

The funnest thing is when people write furious screeds at me for stories I didn’t even write and had nothing to do with.
I almost don’t have the heart to tell them, sometimes.
I have a 2 parter for you. During your run on Birds of Prey, you managed to intensify the rivalry between Cheshire and Black Canary in Sensei and Student. There was a particular moment where Cheshire asks Black Canary if she slept with Arsenal and Dinah
1) No, absolutely not, never in a million years. At that time, it was very clearly established continuity that Canary and Green Arrow were lovers, and that Arrow looked upon Roy as a son. Which Canary also felt to some degree. When Roy was addicted to drugs, it was Dinah who helped nurse him back to health. She would never, ever, never sleep with him, and he would never, ever, never sleep with her. That was never the nature of their relationship even remotely. There are all kinds of love that don’t lead to sex.
2) Hmm. He’s not way high up on my list of characters that I have stories for. I really enjoyed Devin Grayson’s take on him in that mini-series. I honestly don’t have a quick answer for that, although it’d be fun to have him and Connor Hawke in the same story.
Here he is up close!I KNOW AND I CAN’T STAND IT.

why you love me so much. Except I already know. It's my exceptional class.
Well, obviously.
I saw that post with a screen capture of Batwoman beating Batgirl into crying uncle, where you said you would have loved to write a rematch where Babs was more prepared. Do you think that Kate's current much more integrated/integral status in the Batfamily
I think Batgirl’s fighting skills have gone backwards, frankly, after I left the book. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but they definitely made her younger and less experienced. So I feel like Batwoman still has the edge, at least from what I have read lately.
My feeling was that an experienced Batgirl OR Oracle would have taken Kate down. But she’s being presented as pretty inexperienced, currently.
Again, not a value judgment, I like inexperienced characters at the start of their journey. But it feels like Kate is ahead of the current version of Batgirl as a fighter and possibly even as a strategist.
