Excessively Bad Days and Bad Moods: Batgirl #32

Excessively Bad Days and Bad Moods: Batgirl #32:

marvelmaster616:

The following is my review of Batgirl #32, which was posted on PopMatters.com.

We’ve all had bad days that have put us in bad moods. It doesn’t how rich someone is, how attractive they are, or how much power they wield. Sooner or later, they’re going to have a day where it feels…

This is a really interesting and thoughtful piece.

I really enjoy comics commentary sometimes, especially when it makes me think a little.

All that I want from the Tomb Raider comic (Which is excellent) right now is for a drunk Lara to be lead into a trap by following a mysterious trail of jaffa cakes… maybe she doesn’t even need to be drunk.

Heh. I wish I had thought of that.

"The executioner was drunk. I paid him with the only jewelry they let me keep. Mother’s necklace. His axe was…imprecise. The first blow cracked the bones in my left shoulder. The white dress I wore soaked red with my blood. With each missed killing stroke, the crowd cheered and laughed. For them it was good sport. […] For me, it was a pain and terror so deep that I lost everything I was. To kneel, bound at the hands, in my befouled undergarments, and know the butcher wasn’t finished. […] The child I was born, for all the things she had done…she left me as I waited to die. And I found the banshee."

- Jeannette, Secret Six Vol.3 #12

This speech haunted me for a long time…it’s based on some actual beheadings of the aristocracy.

Question For Female Readers Here

I just had a discussion with a nice, but I think very misinformed guy on Twitter, where he said that the reason so few comics are written by women (I guess he doesn’t count alt comics, webcomics, mini comics and manga as ‘comics’) was because women simply are not interested in writing them.

So I am checking here and on Twitter.

If you identify as female, and you have some aspirations, even far-off ones, to make comics of some kind, can you post here and let us know?

I just am curious if there is a genuine paucity of women wanting into the comics creation business.

Hi. I think I recall you saying that none of the Batgirl portions in Eternal were gone over with you, so was the recent mention of the Jim Gordon train crash incident in BG #32 something the editorial shoved in?

I am not aware of what they are doing with Batgirl in Eternal at all, unfortunately, but I got an update on Gordon’s situation and I strongly believe in a cohesive universe so we do refer to it.

Editorial normally doesn’t ‘shove’ stuff in, they generally ask if something is important and the writers put the bits in themselves.

I have no problem with that, I like the universe edges to work together wherever possible.
