Honeyed: Toys

Honeyed: Toys:

gailsimone:

It's interesting, how toys that are identified as made for girls, no matter how fondly most girls remember them, are the subject of scorn forever as we become adults, while toys for boys are fetishized forever and made into 100 million dollar films.

What a weird little way to…

Yikes.

well, since I am around toy vendors, toy collectors, and pop culture shows the entire year, I can say it's certainly a large and pervasive bunch of assholes, if that's the case.

Skipping the goofy generalities later.

Here's a guy ...

When I started standup in Philadelphia, Todd Glass was a hero to me. Now he's a hero to me all over again, in a different way. I am proud of him and happy for him!

Todd Glass: "It's time that bullies stop bullying and we bully them."

WTF with Marc Maron - Episode 245 - Todd Glass

This is a watershed moment for comedy. We love you, Todd!

I met Todd once backstage at a show, he was absolutely lovely and gracious and kind. He's also absurdly funny with a real gift for painful introspection that somehow makes you love him (and even yourself) a little more.

A wonderful person and a great stand-up comic and for what he's done here, MY HERO OF THE DAY.

Richard Dawkins nailed it, just freaking nailed it. We can't afford to ignore these people because of the power they hold.

I LIKED the Easy Bake Oven!

Really, it was a lot of fun. Sure, there's a gender stereotype, but all I remember is when I used it, the boys WERE TOTALLY JEALOUS BUT COULDN'T ADMIT IT.

Which is also messed up. :)

I was jealous. I'll admit it. Brownies I could make on my own time in my own tiny oven sounds like a party. PLUS IT WAS SO SIMPLE.

They were, and LIGHT BULB TREATS ARE DELICIOUS!

I am reblogging because someone mentioned Barbie movies, etc.

I'm sorry, Barbie proves my argument. Barbie is one of the most successful pop products of ALL TIME. And aside from her appearances in Toy Story, she has appeared in mostly direct-to-video inexpensive little films, a few comics, and almost nothing else, AND all those things were aimed directly at kids.

Because girl things are for girls.

While boys' action dolls are 100 million dollar films, terrible films, that are full of cursing and other things almost intended to EXCLUDE kids.

therearecertainshadesoflimelight:

I don't get it. I've lost all focus. All clarity. I'm in the middle of something important, and I've lost all ability to concentrate. […] And because I've lost focus, I almost don't hear her

The one who means more to me than any of it. The one who means more to me than all the men dying in this war — a war that stopped just by my arriving here — and I neither notice nor care.

She doesn't die. But waiting for that moment… I nearly do. I can't think of anything except how relieved I am. How happy I feel knowing she's still with me. How little it matter that what made her fall in love with me. I — Love herand always have

Have I brought these things on her? […] Am I helping people?. Protecting them from the evil in the world?. Are bad people the problem?. Or am I?.

How much of this violence exist solely because I exist?

I used to save people from danger. Now I put them in it, simply by being who I am. Like the gunslinger who once helped — then became a magnet for trouble. A part of the problem.

And I've been so light and flip about it. Enjoying myself. My Strength. My powers. Am I wrong?. Am I making a mistake? I don't know.

As I watch her sleep — studying her lungs as they breathe, watching her blood flow, listening to her heart pump loud and strong — I hope I'm not. Because I love who I am, what I can do.

I love being Superman.

I love being Superman for her.

Clark Kent - Action Comics 821. -

I don't normally care for Benes. But I do admit that ths particular cover was extremely beautiful.  Too bad it was the precursor to Lois getting fridged.  Again.

I'm just going to focus on that beautiful quote from Action Comics above and on the beautiful picture.

I swear, Ed had some weaknesses sometimes (he had a definite template for faces that could have used more variety), but HONEST TO PETE, if you asked him for emotion and complicated acting, he would bring it and bring it huge.

I have worked with some legends of the industry, and some of the hottest new talents, and with Ed, I always knew I could ask for very, very subtle emotional stuff and he would nail it. That was always the Benes porn for me, that he could draw Huntress looking lonely and powerful at the same time and you FELT it. I regret that most of the work he's done, including mine, hasn't showcased that…we all have taken advantage of the gloss and slick qualities.

But even some of the best can't convey what he could when called to be subtle. I know it sounds weird in light of some of the ass shots and the like, but it's true. People like Ed, or Nicola, or Mike Golden, you just thank your lucky stars because suddenly your choice of emotional colors just suddenly expands tremendously. If you write it, they can draw it.

Look at the faces here…they connect. That is surprisingly rare stuff among comic book artists.

Hmm. IT would seem that the teacher here is the bitch. Seeing as how she has to put down kids to feel better about herself. I mean, really? Let's pick on the stupid hick, instead of ignoring him. THIS is why I hated all of my teachers. And you don't see me spelling like this guy.

Huh.  You know, they say this is for a reunion, so I assumed these people were adults. Assuming it's a tenth anniversary reunion at least, and CHS means they were in high school, that likely makes Larry 28 at least, correct?

She's not really picking on a kid in that case.  At the very least, he says he's no longer in high school.

"Picking on a kid" doesn't seem to be what's happening here.

I'm going to release the entire original script for that film someday. It was funny as hell and really interesting.

I like the final film a lot, but the original script had more heart.
