Peaking

Change and Constancy

[image error]Memorial to the ripened world:

destiny once was colored green.

Now, for a few short weeks,

in hushed, low tones,

time drifts down around us

golden, scarlet and russet.

Ever earlier sunsets

remind us how change is linked

to constancy, it clicks round

that clock face we quietly turn back one hour.

We put away the cotton sheets,

get out the flannel ones

and lay the feather-filled quilts across the bed.

The world prepares to lie down

with us for a season of sleep.
