Support Thistle Hills Through Fida Abbott's Collaborative Book

Fida Abbott's published books, Enthusiasm and Exploring My Ideas have been such blessing for community. It was one of her wishes to support her community through her published books. She has supported several non-profit organizations in educational fields, local libraries, a church, medical researches (cancer and cystic fibrosis), and unreached chidlren programs since 2010. Her books were also sent to Middle East to support US Troops who were hunger in reading books in their break time.

This time Fida would like to support a non-profit oraganization, Thistle Hills, a healing home for the survivors of women trafficking, addiction, and drugs located in Coatesville, PA through her collaborative book that will be launched on March 1st, 2021.

Last month Fida had a chance to interview the Founder and President of Thistle Hills, Sherry Deets, and she would like to share it below.

SPECIAL INTERVIEW:

Me: As a Founder and President of Thistle Hills in Coatesville, what is the vision and mission of this nonprofit organization?

SD: Thistle Hills' vision is to create opportunities for holistic healing and empowerment for women to achieve, sober, honest, self-sufficient lives.

Our mission:  Thistle Hills offers support, love, and resources to women who are survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. We believe they deserve a second chance at life and provide programs that transform their lives and so they become part of the fabric of our community.

Our Values:

Show radical hospitality and show love to residents, so they can take control of their lives.

Demonstrate spiritual principles by celebrating the diversity and commonality of humanity.

Use love as a healing gift and the most powerful force for change in the world.

Acknowledge that everyone's journey matters and with unconditional support residents will find their path.

Build a life-long sisterhood of compassionate, disciplined support where everyone can flourish and grow.

Me: If someone needs Thistle Hills services, how can they contact you for detailed info?

SD: Our Executive Director is set to begin on February 8th.  You can look to our website, www.thistlehills.org  for contact information.  Presently, you can call me at 610-384-4771. We hope to welcome our first women Survivors into their new home by late Spring/early Summer. There is an application process to be admitted into the Thistle Hills program. That application should be available on our website in the Spring.

Me: If someone would like to have Thistle Hills services but they cannot afford it, do you have any solutions?

SD: Our services are offered free-of-charge. There is no cost to the women in our program, as part of our mission involves taking care of their physical, financial, emotional, and spiritual needs, enabling healing.

Me: If someone would like to support Thistle Hills in Coatesville, would you explain how they can do?

SD: As we are in the early stages of this program, the best way to support Thistle Hills is a financial donation.  As programming begins, some volunteer opportunities should present themselves.  Donations can be made electronically through our website, www.thistlehills.org  or by mailing a check payable to Thistle Hills to 323 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA  19320.

Me: If there is anything you would like us to know about Thistle Hills but it has not mentioned above, what would it be?

SD: Do you know why we use a thistle in our name?  The thistle illuminates the adage, "Don't judge a book by its cover.".  A weed with the fortitude to thrive in brutal conditions, the thistle has beautiful, soft purple centers with deep taproots that can shoot through concrete and survive drought. Symbolically, the same is true of our women who've gone through trauma: Beauty and strength underlie their trauma and past baggage. The resilience, vibrancy, and healing qualities of the thistle parallel the survival and flourishing of women survivors.***

ENTHUSIASM: A New Review from Diane Evans

Diane Evans from Downingtown, PA enjoyed reading Enthusiasm. She wrote a short review at Xlibris. We appreciate and thank her.

If you enjoyed reading Fida Abbott's books, Enthusiasm or Exploring My Ideas, she would like to invite you to write a short review at online book store where you bought. If you bought directly from Fida or read it by borrowing from library or family or friend, she would like to invite you to write a short review at Xlibris.

"An intimate look into the life of an American housewife and mother who has a dream. She pursues her dream to write a book. All the while, taking the reader on an adventure, navigating through her obstacles with precision. The fact that the author was raised in Indonesia, and wrote this book in English, is a perk. The words sometimes give the reader the feeling she writes English as she would speak it, with a hint that she is educated in another language. I enjoyed her inclusion that shows her proficiency in a professional position in a writing course in Indonesia. Her recollections of her childhood were very moving. I was impressed by her cooking of delectable Asian/Indonesian meals, entertaining, tending to her beautiful garden, teaching her daughter the skills of life, and being a loving wife, while possessing a certain independence. This book illustrates what a person can accomplish with dedication and hard work, drive and strong will. I read the book twice. Fida Abbott is a compassionate, kind, exuberant and intelligent person. I am fortunate enough to know her personally. She is a member of my church. She greets everyone with a sparkle in her eye and “Enthusiasm”. I loved reading her book."Diane Evans

Interview with Paul Cox from P.R. Cox Photography

This time we welcome Paul Cox from P.R. Cox Photography in Coatesville, PA who had spent his time in July 3rd, 2020 taking pictures of the author Fida Abbott for her upcoming book collaboration with other 20 business women in the USA, held by Pretty Woman Hustle Network.

We would like to share our short special interview with him.

Q: As photography is your hobby and career, what the best shot or photo do you like most and what is its reason?
A: I think I have taken a lot of "my best" photos. I certainly would have to list my photo Dragonfly on Water Lily as one of my favorites, but I have so many favorites.

Q: What is your goal and plan in the photography field in the near future?
A: My goal is to reach more and more people. I'll do that by attending more shows and entering more contests. I feel I also need to take more shots of people, and street people. So, if you see me on the street, around where you live, it might be me. I also need to hire an apprentice. He or she can help me reach a wider audience, and I can share my knowledge. We will participate in school contest, take yearbook pictures and photos around their campus.

Q: If there is someone would need your expertise in photography, how can he/she contact you?
A: I want to make myself available to most individuals. At the same time, I'll need to make a list of photos I want to take. Photos to fill my portfolio. Photos of mountains, valleys, the beach, sunsets, storms, and macro.

Q: What any message would you like to inform to those who need your services?
A: They can reach me by email, prc1333@gmail.com. I'll come and talk to groups, tell the story of how I got where I am. I can tell them that people are the reason I get where I am. I really love the contact. That's why I volunteer.

Image may contain: 1 person, sitting, drink and beard Q: As someone who has read Exploring My Ideas , what the short story do you like most?
A: My Name is Peter

Q: What's its reason?
A: I like its story, the way how the author tells its story, it has a strong main character, the story flows smoothly, and I like the ending of the story.

Q: Whom would you like to recommend this book to?
A: Anyone seeking a good short story book. This book is interesting and is a good read.

Q: If the author of this book would like to publish her other own books, would you be interested to read them?
A: Yes, I would be.

Profile:

Paul R. Cox lives in Coatesville, PA. He is a member of The National Press Photographers Association and National Collegiate Honor Society. He grew up on a farm in Honey Brook, PA. In high school he was a jock. He was an offensive fullback, blocking back, defensive linebacker and punter for his football team. He wrestled a weight class above his weight, 154, because he had a state champ wrestle class and played tennis. He was on the varsity team for all three of these sports during his Junior and Senior years.

On August 19, 2014 he had very tragic accident when he was riding home from the gym. Out of nowhere a person driving a car swerved into his lane of traffic and hit him head-on. This person was distracted. They were reaching behind the driver’s seat to grab a bottle that had been thrown by one of the babies in the back seat. Hindsight the person should have pulled the car on to the side of the road to fix the problem. Thank Goodness he was wearing a helmet. He coded 4 times in the first 24 hours.
He spent the next 12 months in the hospital, nursing home, rehabilitation, assisted living, and finally approximately permitted to move back into home. He left the hospital in a wheelchair and arrived back in his home with a walker.
He suffered from a broken spine, crushed hips, many internal problems, and many broken teeth. After five years of speech therapy, he finally began to speak. He was in a doctor induced coma to get his body functioning properly. Brain damage, even with the helmet.
Visit his Website at P.R. Cox Photography!

Author Fida Abbott's New Book Project

Looking for a book that is designed to uplift and inspire the hustler within all women?
Author Fida Abbott has joined this book collaborating project, written by 20 women. It's planned to be published in the fall this year. If you are interested, please stay tuned for upcoming news.

While you are waiting for that book published, please take a look her several books/ebooks: Exploring My Ideas and Enthusiasm . You can choose which one you are interesting with. These books are available to on Xlibris, Amazon, B&N, Kobo, and other online book stores.(*)

"Fida Abbott’s short story collection and writer’s guide, Exploring My Ideas, is a well-written and thought-provoking book that analyzes and breaks down the writing process for new writers. Abbott’s voice is conversational and informative, and reading her book felt a lot like having her directly interacting with me as I read. I loved the supernatural aspect of The Rent House which was inspired by her own experiences with a haunted house. In Makeup Makeover, the reader is immersed in the world of a preteen whose first experiment with makeup transforms her into Elsa, the Snow Queen from Frozen. Abbott also includes a worksheet for creating and categorizing your story ideas and a chapter entitled Ten Guides to Plot a Short Story that analyzes in detail a short story from her collection. Exploring My Ideas is highly recommended." -- Jack Magnus (Readers' Favorite)
"Wow, I feel like I know Fida personally and could count her as one of my friends. The style of writing is like a conversation with a friend, I could imagine sitting with coffee and cake and chatting with her. Wonderfully written, it is like a peep into someone's life, warts and all. She is not afraid of writing it as it is, and doesn't sugar coat anything. The fact that English isn't her first language makes the book more personal and readable, and her descriptions of everyday matters are stunningly brought to life with her informal writing style. I would recommend this book, Enthusiasm. It is a fantastic insight into a 'normal' life - and Fida comes across as a beautiful, warm, kind person." -- Sarah Loft from Wiltshire, Great Britain (a Goodreads Giveaway Winner)
