S J Watson was born in the UK, lives in London and worked in the NHS for a number of years.

In 2011 Watson's debut novel, Before I Go to Sleep, was released to critical acclaim. It has now been published in over 40 languages, and has become an international bestseller, winning numerous awards.

The movie of Before I Go To Sleep, starrring Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong, was released in 2014. Second Life, Watson's second book, is out now, and has already been a top ten bestseller.

Hi! I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question but there is actually a compliment within it. Somehow I picked up your book without my normal excessive review-reading, so I missed learning about you, the author. I was convinced you were female. So now, my question, how did you do such a great job writing such a full-bodied character, in addition to a wonderful thriller? I loved your book!

I think all novels and stories have to start with character, so I spent a lot of time thinking about Christine and who she was, and how she'd respond in the situations she finds herself. I tried very hard to imagine her perspective, and was also lucky enough to have a number of female friends who I could talk to. But ultimately I think the job of a writer is to think themselves into the head of someone who isn't them, and this can and should include people whose experience isn't directly comparable to theirs. November 2015 Our November book will be a MYSTERY novel. Since the Mystery genre appears to be ginormous.... a sub-genre was way more necessary than we originally thought. And since we also accidentally skipped October's usual Horror book, Celeste and I decided to choose books from the mystery-sub-genre Psychological Mystery for this month's poll. ;)
