Google Shutting Down Climate Disinformation?

Dear EarthTalk : Is Google doing anything to prevent the propagation of climate disinformation on the Internet? — P. Hanson, Washington, DC
The advent of the internet and smartphone innovations have brought information to our fingertips. As the number of users skyrockets, advertisers have identified lucrative opportunities to meet people where they are. Google is a household name, holding 87 percent of the market shar...

Advice to New Writers

My advice to a new writer just starting out is that writing is a difficult, difficult, lonely affair. It’s important to have people around you that support both you and your dreams. Other words of advice are to really hone your craft. Gobble down ...

How Many Editors Do You Need?
It’s the second most-offered piece of advice to writers: get an editor to read your work before you send it out. Well, here’s Barbara Barth’s take on that suggestion.
I’m shaking my head about this topic. I sent it in as one I’d be happy to write about and then I realized I don’t have anyone edit my own work. So, I’m going to tell you why I do what I do, but not necessarily suggest this is a good thing, just my thing. There are many professional article...

Write Where and When You Can
Why is this advice from author Kate Brenton so important? Because there’s never enough time. Because family needs us. Because we have to make money. Because we’re exhausted. Because everything else takes priority over our little writing hobby.
Writers need a space to create, and yet, if we get too attached to the perfect space, the muse may evade us. I have written in beautiful, lush spaces, and I have scribbled ideas on the back of coffee napkins on a ...

My friend Nicole got me through the pandemic with her calls that always cheered me up. She is stunningly funny, often slipping a zinger in when you least expect it. She is also a brilliant writer, those zingers landing on a soft spot you didn’t know you had, leading to a wellspring of emotion in the middle of a story that was seemingly all about the fun, but in reality, was about th...

Battery Storage: Bottleneck to Solar, Wind Power Development

Dear EarthTalk: Is it true that a shortage of batteries is slowing down the development of solar and wind power here in the U.S.? If so, what are we doing to ramp up battery production if anything? — J. Wilson, Chicago, IL
