Third Anne Rice Series THE TALAMASCA Coming to AMC

AMC’s “Immortal Universe” of series based on the novels of Anne Rice is expanding. A new series based on the psychic order of scholars the Talamasca is coming next year, according to Deadline. In Rice’s books, the Talamasca are an ancient and secret order that catalogs and studies the supernatural. Members of the Talamasca have already been introduced to viewers of Mayfair Witches and Interview with the Vampire. Although, they are a bigger presence on Mayfair Witches so far. John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) and Mark Lafferty (Halt and Catch Fire) will be the series writers, co-showrunners, and executive producers. Hancock will also direct.

Louis and Lestat from AMC's Interview with the Vampire (L) the symbol and creed of the Talamasca (Center) Rowan Mayfair from Mayfair Witches (R)AMC Networks

Unlike the previous two series inspired by Rice novels, there is no Talamasca series of books by the late author. Instead, she used them as seasoning throughout several of her supernatural novels. In the 2000s, when Rice “crossed over” her Witching Hour series and her vampire books, they played a significant role. Rice often teased a standalone Talamasca novel, but it never came to fruition. She finally revealed the origins of the organization in her 2014 novel Prince Lestat. She tied their beginnings more strongly to the vampires. The AMC shows change much of the mythology Rice created, so who knows if any of that will stick in The Talamasca series.

The business cards for the Talamasca order.Nerdist

According to Dan McDermott, president of AMC Studios, a Talamasca spin-off series is something the studio has been thinking about since their Anne Rice Immortals Universe began. He said, “This is a story we’ve been developing and wanting to tell from the earliest moments of this franchise, focused on a fascinating and compelling secret society that has already appeared in both of our existing Anne Rice series.” Shooting starts this fall in Manchester, England. In the novels, the main Talamasca Motherhouse is in England, so this makes sense. The Talamasca series is scheduled to debut on AMC and AMC+ in late 2025.

Zack Snyder’s REBEL MOON – Director’s Cut Reveals First Look Images and New Titles

Traditionally a director’s cut is a way for a filmmaker to show the public their preferred version of a particular film. Studios often cut movies their own way, either for content or for creative differences. In the DVD age, director’s cuts, or “Unrated Cuts” would offer fans of movies a little extra. These could be just a few more minutes cut for time, or more salacious elements that would have cost it an R rating. Until Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, however, I’ve never heard of a movie touting its director’s cut alongside the, I dunno, non-director’s cut? It’s Netflix; why wouldn’t you just release the longer cut to begin with?

Rebel Moon director's cut shows a king addressing a mass of sci-fi people.Netflix

At any rate, Netflix has released new images for the director’s cut, which Zack Snyder kept saying would have more sex and violence. Evidently, they’ve decided the films are different enough that they have new titles. Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness.

A giant glowy lady in Rebel Moon director's cut.Netflix

Both films will drop on Netflix August 2. The original part one, A Child of Fire, has a 21% critics score and 57% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Part two, The Scargiver, has a 15% and 48%, respectively. Not sure how much more graphic violence or nudity can fix story and character problems, but maybe it will. The director’s cut of part one will be 67 minutes longer, while the director’s cut of part two will be 48 minutes longer.

A robot guy on a mountain.Netflix

This of course raises the question…why didn’t you just release them how you wanted to begin with? Was it just for the hype? The world may never know. (But it was that.)

Here Are First-Look Images From THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE WAR OF ROHIRRIM

Decades before Peter Jackson’s live-action The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Ralph Bakshi rendered the epic in striking animation. (Rotoscope is cool, eh?) Now, a new project from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. returns J.R.R. Tolkien’s sprawling story to animated form. And this time, they’re going the way of anime. This trip into Middle-earth will be The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, fostered by filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama. And now, we finally have our first-look images which show us what The War of Rohirrim will look like. In addition, the first voice cast for The Lord of the Rings anime has been revealed, alongside more story details, concept art from the film, and the movie’s release date. It has even been announced that the story will be narrated by Éowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan.

Here Is Our First Look at the Art of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

We finally know what The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim will look like. Three first-look images of this anime-style The Lord of the Rings movie have been released. In the images, we see main character Héra, antagonist Wulf, and the legendary king of Rohan Helm Hammerhand and his family, Héra, Haleth, and Hama.

Miranda Otto reprises her role as Éowyn in The War of the Rohirrim. She serves as the movie’s narrator as she tells the tale of Rohan’s history. Alongside Otto, Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, and Luke Pasqualino have been cast as the leads in the Lord of the Rings anime. Cox will voice the protagonist Helm Hammerhand. Wise will voice his daughter Hera. And Pasqualino will voice Wulf, the presumed antagonist.

A press release describes the new film as an exploration of “the untold story behind the fortress of Helm’s Deep.” The material adds that this feature will “delv[e] into the life and bloodsoaked times of one of Middle-earth’s most legendary figures; the mighty King of Rohan – Helm Hammerhand.” And Deadline further shares that this Lord of the Rings anime will take place 183 before the events revealed in The Lord of the Rings movies.

Deadline‘s article also reveals more of The War of the Rohirrim‘s plot. It notes that “A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Hera, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.”

More About The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim

Director Kamiyama shares of this The Lord of the Rings anime movie, “This is the story of the most powerful king in Rohan’s history, someone who defeated his enemies with his bare fists. Why did his lineage have to end with him? I think there is a lesson in hubris there and also for a need for responsibility and awareness in their power. We live in an age where, all over the world, we face the reality of war again. What, then, is power? What is the responsibility of those who possess it? It is something they need to think about by thinking together with those who don’t.”

Of Helm’s daughter Hèra, producer Philippa Boyens notes, “In the appendices where the story is drawn from, we get these quite interestingly drawn male characters, and then we get this young female character who is never named — and that was really interesting to me. We know Helm has a daughter, and we know that she was central to the conflict that happened. But myself, and especially screenwriter Phoebe Gittins, were drawn to her. We could feel the weight of being that unnamed daughter, which immediately piqued our interest: Who was she? How did she live?”

Finally, who is the antagonist of The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim, Wulf, who is “leading the armies of Dunlendings against Helm’s kingdom.” Boyens shares, “We have an exceptionally great antagonist in this story. He’s been one of my favorite antagonists to have written across all of the films I’ve worked on.”  Wulf is no wizard or powerful being, instead he’s just a human in The Lord of the Rings world. And Boyens reveals, “He speaks so directly to a lot of the crises that we’re facing today. He’s a really fascinating character and exciting too. You don’t know what he’s going to do, and some of the choices that he makes are just breathtaking in a good way.”

Concept Art From The Lord of the Rings Anime Movie

The below concept art by Weta Workshop certainly hints at those blood-soaked times. That Oliphaunt doesn’t look like it’s there for a good cuddle.

Helm, the ninth king of Rohan, was famously defeated—but not killed—at the Crossings of Isen. However, he would survive for just another year, following a lengthy siege alongside his brother. Despite his defeat, Helm maintained a ferocious reputation; he was even thought to live on in some form following official decree of his death. You can check out the rest of The War of the Rohirrim‘s concept art below.

The War of Rohirrim‘s director, Kamiyama, has been imbuing the anime world with color and story since the 1980s. Among his most noteworthy credits, we find several Ghost in the Shell series, as well as the 2019 Ultraman show.

Additional cast for the movie include Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski.

Peter Jackson will serve as an executive producer of the film.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Release Date

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will debut in theaters on December 13, 2024. At present, Warner Bros. touts Rohirrim as a stand-alone story; as such, we shouldn’t necessarily expect a trilogy born of this project. But given that The Hobbit was originally only supposed to be one film, we might not wish to count anything out, either.

Meet the Crew of DRAGON AGE: THE VEILGUARD’s Reveal Trailer

Following the smash success of Baldur’s Gate 3 last year, it only seems reasonable for other game devs to want to replicate some of that success. A fantasy RPG with a colorful and varied band of classes and races, sounds pretty fun, right? BioWare is hoping to grab some of that BG3 magic with the latest game in their perennial Dragon Age series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard. And the trailer, which you can view below, sure looks upbeat and irreverent!

In the trailer, we get to meet a ragtag band of whosits and whatsits, each with their own specialty. They are: Harding: The Scout; Neve: The Detective; Emmrich: The Necromancer; Taash: The Dragon Hunter; Davrin: The Warden; Bellara: The Veil Jumper; and Lucanis: The Mage Killer. Your player character, the mysterious hooded figure toward the end, will get to be the leader. Pretty good gig if you can get it.

The key art for Dragon Age: The Veilguard shows the player character surrounded by other characters, beasts, and a dragon.BioWare

The official synopsis for the game reads:

When corrupt gods break free from centuries of darkness, the odds will be stacked against you. You can’t do this alone. Rally a team of seven companions, each with rich lives and deep backstories. These are characters to befriend, and even fall in love with. Among them, an assassin, a necromancer, and a detective will each bring their own expertise and unique abilities to the fight. You are never alone; decide who to take into battle and together face down demons, dragons and even ancient gods.

The gameplay trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard will drop June 11, so come back to take a look at that. Release date for the game is Fall 2024. It will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2024 Trailer Looks Astonishing

No one thought a 1:1 Earth flight simulator would have been among the best games in recent memory. That sounded dumb and boring. But in the midst of lockdown, people loved the peace and grandeur of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Now, as part of the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, the follow-up is here. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 somehow looks even more beautiful, robust, and real than its predecessor. Just take a look!

Microsoft promises the game will be “the most ambitious consumer flight simulator ever undertaken,” and will utilize the “latest technologies in simulation, cloud, machine learning, graphics and gaming.” Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 goes beyond merely operating the aircraft; it will allow simmers to pursue their dream of an aviation career. Loads more aircraft types, and actual life out there in the game.

The game is an Xbox Games Studios project, so it’ll only be for Microsoft devices (sorry PlayStation gamers), but it’ll be available on Gamepass day one, so that’s nice. And what is that day? November 19, 2024. Just in time to pretend to fly for the holidays.

STAR WARS: OUTLAWS Gameplay Showcase Focuses on Galactic Scoundrels

Are you ready to head back to the Mos Eisley cantina? Ubisoft has just revealed a brand new gameplay trailer for Massive Entertainment’s upcoming Star Wars Outlaws open-world video game, arriving this summer. This is our best look at the gameplay so far. The events of the game are set right in the middle of the original trilogy, between episodes V and VI. Once again, the desert world of Tatooine will be a major location in the game, and it’s all about the scoundrels of the galaxy. You can watch the Star Wars: Outlaws Official Gameplay Showcase video right here:

And here’s the official synopsis for Star Wars: Outlaws from Ubisoft:

If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity. Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct locations across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.

Star Wars: Outlaws key art showcases Tatooine and Jabba the Hutt.Ubisoft/Lucasfilm

Outlaws will also visit other familiar worlds from the franchise. These include Canto Bight from The Last Jedi, and Kijimi, the smugglers’ planet from The Rise of Skywalker. Outlaws‘ creative director Julian Gerighty told Entertainment Weekly a bit more about the game, saying “The pure scoundrel fantasy really takes flight when the galaxy is in chaos. The Rebels have lost the battle of Hoth and they’re on the back foot. The Empire is taking more and more power in the galaxy. That creates a space for criminal activities and criminal syndicates. That’s really the time of the underworld.”

Star Wars: Outlaws comes to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on August 30, 2024.

INDIANA JONES AND THE GREAT CIRCLE Xbox Showcase Trailer Reveals a Grand Adventure

Harrison Ford went on a grand adventure for the last time with last year’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. But even though Ford hung up his famous fedora, it doesn’t mean that’s the end of the character. Indy will continue in other media, like the brand-new Xbox game that was recently announced by Bethesda Softworks and Lucasfilm Games, Indiana Jones, and the Great Circle, which has a five-minute long trailer reveal from Xbox Games, which you can watch right here:

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Trailer and Synopsis

Here’s the game’s official description:

Uncover one of history’s greatest mysteries in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a first-person, single-player adventure set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. The year is 1937, sinister forces are scouring the globe for the secret to an ancient power connected to the Great Circle, and only one person can stop them – Indiana Jones. You’ll become the legendary archaeologist in this cinematic action-adventure game from MachineGames, the award-winning studio behind the recent Wolfenstein series, and executive produced by Hall of Fame game designer Todd Howard.

Indiana Jones looks on in a new screenshot from the upcoming Xbox game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.Xbox/Bethesda Softworks/Lucasfilm Games

The game will take players “From the halls of Marshall College to the heart of the Vatican, the pyramids of Egypt, the sunken temples of Sukhothai, and beyond.” This looks like everything anyone could want from an Indiana Jones game.

Where on the Indiana Jones Timeline Does the Great Circle Take Place?

As mentioned in the synopsis, the events of this game fill in the timeline between two franchise movies. Timeline-wise, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle fits in between Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, which took place in 1936 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade which happened in 1938. It will be interesting to see how the film evolves the canon, offers Easter eggs, and sets up the events of its “future.”

To tease us, MachinesGames’ co-founder and lead game designer Jerk Gustafsson shares, “He has separated from Marion… We know that he is sort of lost again after that. He is adrift.”

Who Voices Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle?Troy Baker voices The Last of Us Joel and Indiana Jones in the Great Circle gameNaughty Dog/Xbox/Bethesda Softworks/Lucasfilm Games

If Indy’s voice sounds familiar in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it’s because Indiana Jones is voiced by Troy Baker, who gave voice to Joel on The Last of Us. We love this nerdy connection.

Who Can We Expect to See in the Game and When Will The Great Circle Release?

From what the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game trailer depicts, we see good old Dr. Henry Jones Jr. in his prime. He’s evading death traps, scouring for hidden treasure, and of course, punching some Nazis. Also, his mentor Marcus Brody is in the game as well. Our fingers remain crossed that Sallah shows up at some point too. But we imagine Bethesda has a few surprises still in store. The Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game arrives in 2024. You can WishList the game now by heading over to the official Indiana Jones Bethesda site.

Two of Hollywood’s biggest stars could soon return to make movie magic again. Practical Witch magic, to be specific. Warner Bros. AMONG US Animated Series Releases Adorable First Title Trailer

“Teamwork and betrayal…in space!” That’s how Innersloth and CBS Studios describe their upcoming animated adaptation of Among Us. But we’d also add in “adorable” and “funny” after seeing the show’s first trailer. It promises a delightful take on the popular video game. But the one thing this promo doesn’t reveal it just how good its cast is.

Both fun and danger lurk around every corner in this title trailer for the new Among Us series. While this dialogue-free look at the show is more than enough to get gamers excited, it doesn’t let us hear from its immensely talented voice cast. The show will feature:

Ashley Johnson as Purple, Chief of SecurityElijah Wood as Green, Unpaid InternRandall Park as Red, Captain of The SkeldYvette Nicole Brown as Orange, HRDan Stevens as Blue, DoctorLiv Hewson as Black, GeologistKimiko Glenn as Cyan, Gemologist

The cast will also include Patton Oswalt Debra Winger, Wayne Knight, and Phil Lamarr.

A giant black creature with white teeth and wavy arms looms behind a group of colorful astronauts at a table eating in Among Us the animated seriesInnersloth/CBS

Forget betrayal. That team is one we can’t wait to hear work together when the show debuts “soon.”
