Marilyn Manson Debuts Brutal Song, “We Know Where You F-ing Live”

Marilyn Manson has never been one to shy away from aggression (musically, that is), so it’s not surprising that he just announced his next album with the fiercely rocking and in-your-face new single “We Know Where You F—ing Live.”

The song premiered today on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Apple Radio show, where it was also announced that Manson’s tenth studio album, Heaven Upside Down, will be released on October 6. Based on Manson’s new single and the rest of his career, you might not believe who Manson cited as a major influence on the album, as Consequence of Sound notes:

“Strangely enough, one of the records that influenced this album strongly, and it can’t be taken literally, is Rihanna, her last record. That one song, ‘Love On The Brain,’ it really hit me because I saw her perform it and she just… meant it. […] It’s not about how many tattoos you have or if you say f–k enough in a song, it’s in the way you say it. It’s the way you live your life.”

Here’s the cover art, by the way:

Understanding the GAME OF THRONES Theory About the Night King’s Plan

Warning: This post contains spoilers and theories for Game of Thrones .

After seven season of gathering his army of the dead, the Night King made it past the Wall and into Westeros in the Game of Thrones season seven finale. Now what? Where is he going? What’s his plan? Is this a literal death march through the Realm, or does he have a greater purpose for wanting to bypass the Wall? One new fan theory thinks he has something far bigger in mind than just killing the living, and it involves heading to one of the most mysterious and important places in the Seven Kingdoms, an important lake in the lore of Westeros’ past. But does this intriguing theory hold water?

We first saw this theory at Mashable, and it comes from Reddit user twerkmileyyy, who thinks the Night King is marching straight towards the Gods Eye, a lake located in the Riverlands. That would be a monumentally significant place for him to go, because at the center of the lake is the Isle of Faces, which is where the First Men and the Children of the Forest signed their peace treaty, known as The Pact, surrounded by weirwood trees. That happened over 10,000 years ago, ending a war between the two races that had lasted 2,000 years. And it predates the first Long Night, when the White Walkers originally marched on Westeros.

The general idea of this theory makes a lot of sense. The Isle of Faces is sacred ground, guarded by a mysterious group known as the Green Men (who may even be the Children of the Forest or their descendants), and it contains secrets that date back to same time period as the creation of the White Walkers by the Children (which we saw on the show). As it also notes, the Children live for millennia just like the White Walkers, and no one knows just how that’s possible for either.

Even if the Night King doesn’t have greensight, it’s not unreasonable to think he knows enough about the Isle of Faces to at least think it contains some secrets worth knowing, which is why he’d be going there. If he does have greensight (and since he could see Bran in the vision, and sense him warging into a raven, it’s definitely possible), he could know exactly what magic is contained there.

But there are some holes in this theory, too. For one, it’s a real stretch to say Eastwatch-by-the-Sea is the closest part of the Wall to the Gods Eye. Without consulting a cartographer it doesn’t appear to be the case, unless the Night King plans on taking a boat there instead of his flying dragon.

Second, the show has almost never mentioned the Gods Eye or the Isle of Faces. According to the great Game of Thrones wikia, Tywin made one passing reference to the location of the Gods Eye in season one, and that’s it. For both places. If the Isle of Faces is going to end up playing a major role in the show’s endgame, it will mean the lake and island will be introduced at the end. (Note: this is not true in the books.)

Finally, this idea about the Children of the Forest having the secret to eternal life, or of being able to truly bring the dead back, doesn’t seem to match up with what we know about the Children. They went to war with the First Men because they were cutting down their weirwood trees, which were more than sacred to them. They not only revered them as their gods, they believed their ancestors’ souls became a part of the tree after they died.

That doesn’t sound like a culture who has unlocked the secret to eternal life.

But the Isle of Faces is so mysterious and so steeped in the lore of Westeros–which keeps proving to be more and more reality than myth–that we shouldn’t dismiss the possibility something important will happen there. Could that be where the Children created the first White Walker? Is that where Bran or someone else might find the secret to defeating the army of the dead?

Could it be where the decisive battle during the first Long Night, the Battle for the Dawn, happened?

The Night King might be heading there, and for reasons even he doesn’t even fully understand yet. What he finds there could prove decisive in the Great War.

What do you think of this theory? Does it float or sink? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Rian Johnson “Not Really Thinking About” Directing STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

It’s been less than a week since Colin Trevorrow exited Episode IX, and a replacement director ha yet to be announced. Names are being thrown around for helming the Star Wars film, and one person in particular keeps coming up: Rian Johnson.

Johnson, the writer and director for The Last Jedi, could keep carrying the torch and lead the sequel trilogy into its final installment. He’s expressed interest in directing another Star Wars film before, but during a recent appearance in Japan (that we learned about via CBR), he made comments that suggest he won’t direct Episode IXbut it also sort of evades the question altogether.

When asked about the possibility of directing the movie in the above video, Johnson responded: “It was never in the plan for me to direct Episode IX, so I don’t know what’s going to happen with it. I was entirely focused on Episode VIII and having this experience, and now I’m just thinking about putting the movie out there and seeing how audiences respond to it. So, no, I’m not really thinking about that right now. Whoever does it, I’m going to be really excited to be an audience member again and to sit down and see what the next filmmaker has to show us and where this story ends up going.”

Note that it’s not a hard pass. He’s understandably focused on polishing The Last Jedi right now. He has to get through release commitments including a premiere and a likely press tour, so I can see why Episode IX wouldn’t be on his mind right now. He did mention the next filmmaker, but maybe, just maybe, he’ll stay on board.

During the press event, Johnson also revealed his pal Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who Johnson worked with on Looper, has a cameo in Episode VIII: “He does a cameo as a voice of an alien in the film. It’s a very brief little thing, but it’s fun.”

Would you like to see Johnson step in for Episode IX? Do you think this statement takes him out of the running? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Celebrate Morty Pride with Our RICK AND MORTY T-Shirt Giveaway!

Has it really been only two weeks since the last episode of Rick and Morty? It felt a lot longer than that. But thankfully a new episode is here! Tonight’s episode, “The Ricklantis Mixup,” took our favorite titular duo to the lost city of Atlantis. But we didn’t get to see that soggy adventure. Instead, this week’s Rick and Morty was a stand alone episode that took us back to the Citadel of Ricks, where some brave individuals were standing up for the rights of Mortys everywhere. It’s time for Morty Pride 2017!

Unlike Rick C-137, we think that the events of this episode will come back to haunt the title characters sooner than they expect. Hope they enjoyed their jaunt in Atlantis, because there’s a new Morty in charge of the Citadel. Evil Morty is back!

We’re heading into the home stretch of Rick and Morty season three, and every Monday until the end of the season, we’ll be teaming up with Spencers to give away 10 t-shirts that capture the spirit of each individual episode. To win this week’s shirt, you must organize a Morty Pride parade in Atlantis and send us the footage. Or you could just get it for free! All you really have to do to enter our weekly giveaway is to click here and tweet.

Earlier this season, fans got the opportunity to win shirts based on Toxic Rick and Morty, Spiritual Leader Rick from his wormhole mind trip,  the Vindicators logo, Pickle Rick, and Mad Morty. Creepy Robots Make This Ice Cream Ad Disturbing

Who doesn’t love ice cream? Sure, there might be a few who dislike the taste or can’t consume it for dietary reasons, but it’s a favorite dessert for many people. But what if you could only eat ice cream? And what if ice cream was the last thing that remained in a dystopian future ruled by creepy/probably evil robots? You don’t have to imagine that last scenario, because it plays out in front of your eyes within this new commercial for Halo Top Creamery. Like the robot says, “Humans require ice cream!”

Now, we have to point out that this is a real ad, and you may even see it in movie theaters this weekend with It or possibly in front of Kingsman: The Golden Circle in a few weeks. It was directed by Mike Dahlquist, a.k.a. Mike Diva, and he may have just done the impossible: now we don’t want any ice cream!

The ad is darkly funny as the robot informs the unnamed woman that everyone she loves is gone and there is only ice cream. The ice cream jingle in the background is also appropriately nightmarish. It’s as if Diva has created a version of Hell that would actually turn us against the tasty frozen treat.

“It’s almost like an anti-ad,” said Halo Top CEO Justin Woolverton while speaking with Ad Age. “If anything it portrays ice cream a little negatively but we thought that was overshadowed by how great the dark comedy was.” We have to give them credit for trying something new, but we’ve never had ice cream nightmares before! Perhaps Halo Top should add “official ice cream of the robot apocalypse” to its packaging.

Would you accept “delicious ice cream” from this robot? Serve up your thoughts in the comment section below!

8 Bit Universe Transforms Toto’s “Africa”

In 1982, Toto‘s song “Africa” helped the resurgent band reach its greatest level of success. Thirty-five years later, “Africa” is still among the most popular songs from the era, and its been endlessly covered by musicians online. We’ve seen a lot of great takes on the song over the past few years, like when Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard recreated the video, and earlier this month, 8 Bit Universe made their mark on Toto’s signature tune with their decidedly retro video game take.

8 Bit Universe does a lot covers on their YouTube channel, including music from TV, films, and video games. Their version of “Africa” makes us long for a 8-bit treatment for the whole video–audio and visuals. It’s hard to watch this and not immediately think about how this song could have been used as a theme on the old NES or Sega Master System.

For comparison’s sake, here’s the actual music video that Toto recorded for “Africa.” It’s interesting to see what a music video from that era looked like, as the band gave us one of the songs for the ages. Here’s hoping that we’ll still be singing “Africa” 35 years from now!

What did you think about 8 Bit Universe’s take on “Africa”? Are you gonna take some time to do the things we never had? Tell us in the comments below.

Comic Book Legend Len Wein Has Passed Away at Age 69

The comic book industry lost another legend this weekend. Celebrated writer and editor Len Wein passed away on Sunday. Word first broke on social media posts from his colleagues and peers, but further details about Wein’s death are currently unknown. He was 69 years old.

Wein was one of the first Silver Age comic book fans to break into the industry as a professional, and he got his start with an issue of Daredevil in 1970. One year later, Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson created the iconic DC horror character, Swamp Thing. Wein went on to write several DC titles including Justice League of America and Batman. Among his many contributions to that comic book universe, Wein co-created the Human Target, Lucius Fox, and the third incarnation of Clayface.

But it was at Marvel that Wein unleashed his most popular creation: Wolverine. In 1974, Wein and artists Herb Trime and John Romita Sr. introduced Wolverine within the pages of Incredible Hulk. Wein later used Wolverine as one of the All-New X-Men, alongside his other co-creations, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Thunderbird. While Wein didn’t stay with the X-Men title, his characters proved to be invaluable to the franchise and among Marvel’s greatest superheroes.

Wein was also briefly the editor-in-chief of both Marvel Comics and Disney Comics, but his most memorable editorial runs were at DC Comics. In the mid-80s, Wein served as the editor of Alan Moore and David GibbonsWatchmen and helped them shape that story into a superhero classic.

Outside of comics, Wein wrote for Batman: The Animated Series, the Ben 10 franchise, the Watchmen: The End Is Nigh video game, and countless projects across his incredibly prolific career. Wein was a giant in the industry, and he will be greatly missed by his family, his colleagues, and his fans all over the world.

GODZILLA: MONSTER PLANET Brings Together Godzilla and Hello Kitty

For the last six decades, Godzilla has defended his title as King of the Monsters against all contenders, including the Fantastic Four, King Kong, and even Charles Barkley. But now, Godzilla is heading into his most bizarre crossover yet. Ahead of this fall’s anime film, Godzilla: Monster Planet, Toho and Sanrio are unleashing the unlikely combo of Godzilla and Hello Kitty.

Via Crunchyroll, Hello Kitty won’t be the only Sanrio character to cross paths with Godzilla. Big G is also set to appear alongside My Melody, Pompompurin, and Little Twin Stars. Each illustration sees Godzilla rendered in the style of the respective Sanrio creations.

I don’t think we’ve ever seen Godzilla as happy as he is next to the Little Twin Stars. Clearly they get along well, and we can almost believe that this little Godzilla wouldn’t dream about crushing us all while taking on Mothra in a fight to the death.

Godzilla and Pompompurin also seem to be fast friends, as they share a nap together. We can’t help but notice Godzilla is a little less pleased with My Melody and Flat the mouse as they put ribbons on his body. He probably thinks it would be rude for him to refuse a makeover. We know Godzilla is all about being polite.

Finally, Godzilla and Hello Kitty attempt to mirror each other. It’s kind of adorable.

These designs will soon be available in the official Godzilla store and sold in locations across Japan. More details about further collaborations between Toho and Sanrio will also be announced in the near future.

What did you think about Godzilla’s team up with Hello Kitty and friends? Let out an atomic roar in the comment section.
