Twitter Just Doubled Its Character Limit and the Internet Is Freaking Out
We all know the frustration: you have the perfect joke or insight to tweet out to the world, but you run out of space when you go to write i
Darn it! Oh…wait, this isn’t Twitter. Well, soon enough lack of characters might not be a problem, because the social media site has announced that they are testing an increase in the maximum number of characters per tweet, from 140 to 280.
Can’t fit your Tweet into 140 characters?
Invite the Super Normal Mark Duplass Back Into Your Home with CREEP 2 Trailer
Shot with that unmistakable Duplassian look where the bones are bare, the budget’s non-existent, and the characters carry almost everything, Creep was one of the best horror movies of 2015. It was inventive specifically because of its limitations, and it featured an unhinged performance from Mark Duplass who was either a nanosecond away from hugging you or clawing your eyes out at any given moment. If you’ve never seen it, Netflix has your back. You owe it to yourself to give it a shot because it’s like Silence of the Lambs and My Dinner with Andre had a baby that grew up trying to outdo Patrick Bateman’s business card selection.
Creep was the writing and directing debut of Patrick Brice, who fit into the low budget mode brilliantly, and further proved he belonged in the outlandish, character-driven world with the hilarious and unsettling The Overnight. Now Brice and Duplass are turning their lonely eyes back to their thoughtful serial killer/documentary filmmaker with Creep 2.
It looks like the basic structure is still there, which would be worrisome if I didn’t trust both Brice and Duplass to have some tricks and surprises up their sleeves. The sequel will feature a video artist played by Appropriate Behavior‘s Desiree Akhavan who creates work focused on lonely men. She sees an opportunity to raise her artistic stakes with a self-proclaimed serial killer (guess who, it’s Duplass’s Josef now using the name Aaron…) and gets in over her head.
That last shot of the trailer where he tries to jump out and scare her is trope-busting magic. If the rest of the movie is that zany, and if it’s as, you know, creepy, as the first, then we’re in for another fantastic ride into the forest. Sweet dreams, Peachfuzz.
Creep 2 hits all digital platforms October 24th.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Thinks Jaime Will Kill Cersei on GAME OF THRONES
Editor’s Note: because this is a Game of Thrones post, we feel compelled to let you know there may be potential spoilers for the past seven seasons in the story below. Don’t say we didn’t warn you! (Also: why are you clicking on Game of Thrones stories if you aren’t caught up?)
Guess what, kids? Westeros’ most fed-up sisterlover is a fan of your most-treasured fan theory. You know the one, based on ol’ Maggy the Frog’s prophecy regarding the life of Cersei Lannister? The one that says the Valonqar (Valyrian for “younger sibling”–because they weren’t so hung up on gender signifiers those modern-thinking dead people!) will kill her? Yup, that’s the one! And Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, like you and me, is fairly certain his Jaime Lannister is the lad that does the killing.
In a new interview with InStyle, the actor opened up about the possibility that his golden hand will be the one to bring about Cersei’s death. “It makes sense,” Coster-Waldau explained. “He killed the Mad King and now he’s killing the Mad Queen.” It would be, as he put it, a “beautiful connect” given his character’s trajectory and evolution thus far.
And though the actor likened such an occurrence to “the Red Wedding 2,” he also steered clear of delighting in a murder most un-foul, adding that it “would be really horrible. I hope he wouldn’t.” After all, as far as Jaime knows, Cersei is pregnant with their latest incest baby. And though Coster-Waldau is “not sure anymore … Jaime believed her.”
You can head over to InStyle to read the rest of the interview, but put it to us plain: do you want to see Cersei die at Jaime’s hand? Or do you think it’ll be someone like Tyrion or Arya (or better yet, Arya in Jaime’s face)? Let us know in the comments.

Furry Caterpillars Are Like Real Life Super Venomous Tribbles
Tribbles, from the original Star Trek series, were cute, harmless little balls of fluff that couldn’t hurt a soul. They reproduced too much, of course, but even that ended up saving the lives of the crew of the Enterprise. Furry puss caterpillars on the other hand, which look a lot like real-life versions of tribbles, are most definitely not harmless. In fact, if a store full of these little buggers fell on your noggin, your whole upper body would be in searing pain for more than 12 hours.
In the above clip, which was posted to Facebook by The Caterpillar Lab, we see five very slow and cute furry puss caterpillars undulating their way around what looks to be a little white studio space. Whoever put them there must have worn gloves and used the utmost care in handling them though, because these are some of the hardest-stinging little insects in the animal kingdom.
Furry puss caterpillars, or Megalopyge opercularis, are indigenous to the Southern and Eastern U.S., as well as Mexico and Central America, and inflict enormous pain on their victims by injecting venom into their systems via spines hidden in the setae (bristly hair) along their backs. According to the wiki for the little dangerous wigglers, “Exposure to the caterpillar’s fur-like spines will lead to an immediate skin irritation [characterized] by a, ‘grid-like hemorrhagic papular eruption with severe radiating pain.'” The pain has also been described as feeling similar to a broken bone or blunt force trauma.
Video showing metamorphosis from venomous furry puss caterpillar into totally harmless flannel moth.
Pain you can literally feel in your bones. But again, so cute, right?
While the furry puss caterpillars likely earned their moniker “puss” because they look like Persian cats, several outlets, including National Geographic, have noted how similar one of these looks to President Donald Trump’s hair. Incidentally, these little guys also like to fling their own poop.
What do you think about these little venomous fluff balls? Do you think they look more like tribble doppelgängers, Persian cats, or Donald Trump’s hair? Give us your thoughts in the comments below!

FREAKS AND GEEKS Documentary Coming to A&E in 2018
Along with Firefly and My So-Called Life, the very short lived NBC series Freaks and Geeks is one of the greatest “one season wonder” shows ever produced, and has an influence that far outstripped its very short shelf life on network TV. We sure love it.
Premiering in 1999, the coming-of-age/early ’80s high school period piece only aired 12 of its 18 episodes on the network. Yet its critical acclaim from all corners and passionate fan base launched the careers of creator Paul Feig, who would go on to direct hit movies like Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters, and the acting careers of James Franco, Linda Cardellini, Jason Segel, and Seth Rogen, among others. And the show’s executive producer? Judd Apatow. One can safely say this series gave birth to early-aughts American comedy.
Although a reunion has been teased by various cast members over the years, it’s never come to pass. But we might be getting the next best thing very soon, as it’s been reported on the AV Club that Morgan Spurlock, the documentary filmmaker best known for Super Size Me, will include a comprehensive behind the scenes look at the beloved show in his upcoming A&E docu-series CultureShock. The new series is described as show that will “examine the untold stories behind watershed moments in pop culture that had a lasting impact on our culture—with the full participation from the subjects.”
This happened and is coming your way in 2018 thanks to @hodgeepodgee, @MorganSpurlock and @AETV. Clear your calendars! pic.twitter.com/huhDIG2coV
— Samm Levine (@SammLevine) September 18, 2017
So when is the show actually airing? As of yet, the series doesn’t have a premiere date on A&E, but actor Samm Levine, who played dweeby Neal Schweiber on the series, tweeted an image of the documentary last week (which you can see above), listing it as coming in 2018. Feig later confirmed this fact.
Every major actor who has come out of this show is extremely proud of it to this day, so I’d be shocked if there were any major hold outs for the documentary. It seems everyone involved with the series realizes they were part of something special. Hopefully this documentary will be something quite special too.
Are you as excited to see this amazing show finally get its due? Let us know your thoughts on this great series down below in the comments.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller to Direct THE MARTIAN Author’s Latest, ARTEMIS
Back in May we told you what The Martian novelist Andy Weir‘s followup novel Artemis would be about, and even though it doesn’t hit bookstores until November 14th, it already has a big-time Hollywood duo signed on to direct the film adaptation. And they just so happen to be two guys who know something about an exciting space adventure, and who were suddenly available for the job.
Deadline reports that Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street directors, who Lucasfilm recently replaced as directors of the Young Han Solo movie with Ron Howard, will develop and direct the big screen adaptation of Weir’s next novel Artemis. Despite their many writing credits, they are reportedly looking for someone to adapt the script.
There is no date for a release for the movie, but Deadline says it is a “big priority for project for Fox.” That’s no surprise after the smash critical success of The Martian at both the box office and bookstores. (Matt Damon was robbed of that Oscar!)
Here’s our description of Artemis from our exclusive report earlier this year:
“The story follows Jasmine Bashara, a.k.a. Jazz, an aimless yet prodigal twentysomething who yearns to leave her boring, small-town life behind for something bigger and better. Except in Jazz’s case, her small town is named Artemis and just so happens to be the first–and only–city on the moon. But life on the moon isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, especially if you’re not obscenely wealthy.
In the story Jazz gets caught up with a smuggler, and “finds herself caught in the middle of a shadowy conspiracy as opposing forces vie for control of Artemis itself.”
Hey! That sounds a little like young Han Solo. Maybe Lord and Miller won’t even have to do that much prep work for Artemis. At the very least, the choice of the duo would seem to indicate that despite the nature of the story, we should expect the same type of fun and humor as we did in The Martian.
That might not have been what Lucasfilm wanted, but it sounds perfect for an Andy Weir story.

Here is What’s Coming to Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu in October 2017
With Halloween on the horizon, October is going to be a big month for streaming original series and movies on Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. But the biggest debut of the month, by far, is the return of Stranger Things for a second season on Netflix. The first season of the Duffer Brothers’ ’80s fantasy and horror homage captured our collective imaginations, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting our return trip to the Upside Down. Stranger Things first season is a tough act to follow, but we’re counting down the days to season two’s debut on October 27.
Also coming to Netflix this month are Voltron: Legendary Defender season 4, and the first season of David Fincher’s Mindhunter, which is a very dark crime series that looks back at the early days of the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit. But if it’s more over-the-top horror you’re looking for, Cult of Chucky is also making its Netflix debut on October 3, the same day that the Blu-ray and DVD go on sale.
Next month, Hulu is bringing the fifth season of The Mindy Project and the season premiere of Freakish. All ten seasons of Smallville will also be available on the streaming service, alongside American Horror Story: Roanoke and Adventure Time season 7. Some of our favorite movies heading to Hulu next month include both volumes of Kill Bill, The Warriors, and Groundhog Day.
Amazon Prime is bringing Arrival, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and Fargo to its streaming service, as well as Darren Aronofsky’s debut film, Pi. In the realm of television series, the fifth season of The Americans is a can’t miss, and there’s also the third and final season of Red Oaks. But the Amazon original that really has our attention this month is Lore, a new horror anthology series based on the popular podcast of the same name.

John Boyega Narrates New STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II Trailer, Teases Finn and Captain Phasma
John Boyega has been very open about his love of gaming and for the Star Wars: Battlefront title that was released in 2015. With the sequel, Star Wars Battlefront II, right around the corner, Boyega has lent his voice to the newest trailer for the game, running down nearly every mode of gameplay and the latest additions to the title. Boyega even offers a first look at the artwork for two the game’s newest hero and villain characters: Finn and Captain Phasma!
Throughout the trailer, Boyega makes a pretty compelling pitch that Battlefront II has corrected many of the issues that fans had with the first title. For example, the gameplay locations have nearly tripled and there’s finally a single player campaign. The latest trailer once again introduces Iden Versio, the leader of the Empire’s Inferno Squad. The single player campaign will follow Iden on her 30-year quest for revenge against the New Republic, which will close the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
As related by Boyega, the multiple game options and upgradable heroes and ships make the title seem very enticing. In particular, we’re looking forward to the Hero vs. Villain mode, which will let players to call on 14 of the main characters from across all three Star Wars eras.
Star Wars Battlefront II will be released on November 17 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
What do you think about Boyega’s rundown of the new game? Leave a comment for the Republic below!

Bill Nye Walks in on Elevator Full of Twerking Girls, Waves Hi
Bill Nye is no stranger to audiences. Bill Nye the Science Guy originally aired in 1993, and ever since Nye has been a staple of the community that ties together entertainment and science education. But suddenly open up the elevator doors on a group of twerking college-age girls in front of the Science Guy and it seems he becomes just as flustered as anybody. When trapped amongst five dancing, giggling, oh-my-God-ing girls, Bill Nye went with the Bill Hi.
Bill Nye just walked into our elevator while I was snap chatting.. pic.twitter.com/LwCOITAEft
— ☯ (@Savmasta) September 22, 2017
The video, which comes via Sploid, was captured by Savanah Prosch who was in Las Vegas with her friends attending the Life Is Beautiful music and arts festival where Nye himself was a speaker. Apparently, the elevator made for some excellent twerking space — it’s important that it be confined that way whomever you’re twerking up on cannot escape — and the phones came out for some chats de Snap. And then the doors opened, and there was Nye, the Netflix host and science moderator extraordinaire in his trademark suit and bowtie startled and yet intrigued by a group of native Las Vegas party people. (Although not literally native, of course.)
Prosch told the IBTimes that Nye “wasn’t expecting to see a bunch of girls try to pretend like they weren’t just doing something he definitely saw,” and that he was “super nice and polite though; said hello girls [emphasis added], asked if we wanted pictures.”
Although Prosch’s tweet containing the Snap video has gone super viral, earning more than 260,000 retweets and 760,000 likes, it seems Nye still hasn’t directly commented on it. Although he did post this little cheeky video (below), clearly poking fun at the whole situation.
