THE LAST JEDI’s Admiral Holdo is Coming to the Funko STAR WARS Galaxy
Although we have yet to see her on screen, most of us are already in love with Laura Dern’s Resistance leader character, Vice Admiral Holdo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. We know very little about Holdo, but we love her because A: she’s rockin’ a cool lavender wig straight out of Jem and the Holograms, and B: she’s frickin’ Laura Dern. That’s reason enough. Now the Vice Admiral, the longtime friend of Princess Leia is getting her own Funko Pop! vinyl figure, which is due to hit stores in January 2018.
Funko will have plenty of other The Last Jedi products available for fans aside from Holdo, but that doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten about the characters from the original trilogy. Coming soon are also some classic Star Wars characters turned into Mystery Minis Keychain Plushies. These Plushies are 2.5 – 3” tall, and you can clip them anywhere, or just have them hang out on your desk at work, or on your shelf at home.
Among the characters in this wave of blind boxed items are Star Wars icons from the original trilogy like Princess Leia, Yoda, Greedo, C-3PO, Darth Vader, an Ewok, Boba Fett, and a Jawa. As with all Mystery Minis, you just never know which one you will get. Luckily, there’s no Jar Jar or little kid Anakin in this wave, so you’re guaranteed to get someone cool. The classic Star Wars wave of Mystery Minis is set to hit in February.
What do you think of these latest Star Wars adorableness from Funko? Let us know down below in the comments.

Kelly Marie Tran Picks HARRY POTTER Houses for STAR WARS Characters
In the long march to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it’s been a joy to watch Kelly Marie Tran share the story about how she learned she had been cast as Rose Tico and make her own porg costume for Halloween. The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has even described Tran’s character as the most significant new addition to the film. During the recent press event for The Last Jedi, Tran wasn’t allowed to share any further details about Rose’s role in the story. However, she had a lot to say when she was asked to sort the major Star Wars characters into the Hogwarts houses from the Harry Potter universe.
Collider put the unexpectedly delightful question to Tran, and she seemed to be very enthusiastic about the opportunity to speak about her other geek passion. Naturally, Gryffindor was the biggest winner of Tran’s Star Wars character roundup. It’s tough to argue with her placement of Luke Skywalker into Gryffindor, or her reasons why Princess/General Leia, Rey, and Poe Dameron were also a part of that house. It’s a popular house to put heroes into, so we get it.
Other characters weren’t as obvious. She was on the fence about Han Solo and decided he fit best into a couple of houses. We’ll allow it. She also sorts Finn, C-3PO, and more. Watch the video to learn what house colors they should all start wearing.
Do you agree with Tran’s Star Wars selections for the sorting hat? If not, which houses would you choose? Let us know in the comment section below!

TWIN PEAKS: A LIMITED EVENT SERIES Has a Damn Fine Blu-ray (Review)
After over a quarter century of waiting, 2017 was the year fans finally got to return to the dark and moody Pacific Northwest of David Lynch and Mark Frost‘s seminal cult television series Twin Peaks. The series aired on Showtime with 18 new episodes over the course of the summer. Expectations were high, because not only was Twin Peaks a return to one of the most revered series of all time, it was also David Lynch’s first project since 2006’s Inland Empire. Could Peaks 2.0 possibly live up to the hype?
The answer was an emphatic yes. Twin Peak’s return was anything but a cheap cash grab. It’s instead an 18 hour film, discarding traditional episodic television structure for something far more experimental and rewarding. In a way, the Twin Peaks Limited Event Series, as it is referred to on the Blu-ray set, was unlike anything ever seen before on television. And actors like Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern turned in the performances of their lives.
Some fans who preferred the classic soap opera/whodunit structure of the 1990 series might not be down for this iteration, but in its own way, the new episodes were as game changing for TV in 2017 as the original was in 1990. I’m not going to go in depth on reviewing the content of the season, mostly because I did that over the summer, and you can still read all those thoughts right here–but I’ll go over the rest of the Blu-ray set, including the wealth of special features which are included.
Picture And Audio Quality
Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series was shot on high-end video rather than film, which David Lynch now prefers, saying he’ll likely never work on film again. While this is sad, I can’t say Twin Peaks looks anything but stunning in every way. Working on high-end video hasn’t hindered Lynch’s aesthetic at all. The picture quality on the set is incredible, and definitely a step up from the Showtime presentation we saw over the summer.
Sound is an important part of any David Lynch project, as more often than not, he is also the sound designer for his own films. Plus, the new Twin Peaks has a ton of musical performances from the likes of the Chromatics and Nine Inch Nails, which viewers would want to listen to in the best possible way. Luckily, for the new Blu-ray set, we get a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless soundtrack that allows you to hear every ominous noise and haunting song in crystal clear clarity.
Special Features
Here’s the real gift for Twin Peaks fans on this Blu-ray set: the special features. Disc one has a series of promos that aired in the year and a half leading to the premiere. These are very short, and run just over five minutes in total, but are fun to watch for hardcore Peakers.
Next on disc one is Twin Peaks: The Phenomenon, which is a promo video series that Showtime ran on YouTube in the weeks leading up to the premiere. This is split in three parts, Part 1: Creation, which details how Lynch and Frost came up with the series in the late ’80s, and how the show became a cultural phenomenon in 1990, only to see its popularity wane after just two seasons. Part 2: Life After Death shows how the show grew in status over the next two decades, and finally, Part 3: Renaissance, which deals with the growing demand from fans for a new season of Peaks.
Discs three through six contain episodes, but disc seven has the excellent half hour documentary A Very Lovely Dream: One Week in Twin Peaks, which chronicles the cast’s return to the iconic locations from the original series 25 years later. All set during one week in 2015, this documentary comes from Charles de Lauzirika, the king of behind the scenes documentaries for some of your favorite DVDs and Blu-rays over the years. Also on this disc are an additional two half hour long documentaries, from cast member Richard Beymer (Ben Horne), Behind the Red Curtain and I Had Bad Milk in Dehradun.
Disc eight, however, is the true treasure trove. Lynch’s friend, filmmaker Jason S., was given unprecedented access to the filming of the series, and captures over five hours of behind the scenes footage of Lynch directing the revival series. Now, Lynch fans know that this is a man who doesn’t ever do audio commentaries for his films, rarely gives interviews about his work, so five hours of behind-the-scenes footage is a gift for Peakers everywhere.
We get to see Lynch interact with his actors, may of whom he’s had relationships with going back decades. And we get more insight into his process than ever before. We also see something that few fans have ever seen: Lynch lose his temper! He usually comes across cool as cucumber in almost every interview that he (rarely) grants, but seeing the zen master lose his cool is both fascinating and mildly unnerving.
Bottom line, if you love Twin Peaks or the works of David Lynch, the Blu-ray set for Twin Peaks: A Limited Series Event is a must have. This may be the last visit we ever get to that mysterious town in the woods, and if it is, it got a package worthy of its legendary status.
RATING: 5 OUT OF 5 BURRITOS

Who Will Wield the New Lightsaber in THE LAST JEDI?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is just over a week away, and this is not a drill, people! But before director Rian Johnson leaves the current trilogy behind to plot the course of a brand new trilogy, he couldn’t resist dropping at least one more Last Jedi hint. Today’s Nerdist News is consulting the Resistance codebreakers to figure out what it means for the sequel.
There are potential spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Last Jedi! Maybe it’s nothing, or perhaps it’s a significant detail. Either way, you’ve been warned!
Join host and the keeper of the Kyber crystals, Jessica Chobot, as she runs down the possibilities of a new lightsaber hue in the movie. Johnson apparently let that detail slip while speaking to Parade Magazine, and it’s set off the rumorville. And as much as we’d love to see Samuel L. Jackson‘s Mace Windu return with his signature purple lightsaber, that’s one rumor that seems pretty unlikely. There is also the possibility that Johnson is referring to Luke Skywalker’s green lightsaber from Return of the Jedi, which has not been seen in The Last Jedi promo images or trailers.
That would be the safest way to go, but we’d love to see the new lightsaber expand upon the four cinematic colors as well as the yellow, white, and black lightsabers that have appeared on the various Star Wars animated series. If Johnson wanted to take Supreme Leader Snoke’s gold obsession to its natural conclusion, then Snoke should have a gold lightsaber! And while her time as a Jedi was wiped away with the Extended Universe, we’d still love to see General Leia get her own unique lightsaber, no matter how long it takes.
What new color lightsaber would you like to see in The Last Jedi? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!

TRON LEGACY Is Getting an Official LEGO Set
We’ll have to call it Tron LEGO-cy now, right?
Thanks to LEGO Ideas, we’ll soon be seeing a modern-era light cycle with Sam Flynn. Why Sam, you might ask, even though his dad is better known? We’re thinking it involves Shanghai Disneyland’s Tron Lightcycle Power Run roller coaster, which is also soon to come to Walt Disney World. Disney is going to want toys to sell in the inevitably adjacent gift shop, and everyone loves LEGO! Plus, the coaster is themed to the more recent movie, so even kids who’ve never seen either Tron film will recognize the set as their ride.
This set beat out several other popular license ideas, including Power Rangers and The Office. But Disney was probably easier to clear all the hurdles with, since they already endorsed a WALL-E set for a previous LEGO Ideas winner.
This Tron set was designed by BrickBrosUK, and will probably just be a one-off set for the license, like previous winners The Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who. The final production model may also vary; LEGO makes the decision based on the idea, but lets their master builders come up with the best final execution of it. Let’s just hope they keep the light bricks in, because Tron without light-up or glowing elements just wouldn’t feel…Tron-ic.
Considering the way objects and characters in Legacy de-rezzed by shattering into many tiny bricks, you could argue that this keeps a key action feature intact. Throw it against the wall and watch it do the same thing! (You might not want to actually do that.)

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD Gets a VR Remake for 50th Anniversary
Nearly five decades ago, filmmaker George Romero redefined the zombie genre with Night of the Living Dead, a horror classic that was memorably remade in 1990. But for next year’s 50th anniversary, Night of the Living Dead is doing something special and heading into virtual reality.
Variety is reporting Romero’s Image Ten is developing a Night of the Living Dead “multi-platform VR experience” in partnership with Supersphere, a virtual reality production company. Further details of the VR remake weren’t announced, but Supersphere’s Doug Allenstein said that the goal is to “expand that franchise to the next generation of storytelling.”
There are some interesting directions the VR remake could go in, if it keeps the same storyline and characters from the original movie. Romero’s film put Duane Jones’ Ben at the forefront of the action, while the first remake elevated Barbara (Patricia Tallman) into a leading heroine as well. Perhaps the VR retelling could allow viewers to experience the story through the eyes of either of them as they attempt to survive the night.
Alternately, the viewers’ perspective could shift to another character who is trapped with Ben and Barbara or offer a more omniscient take that would allow fans to freely roam in that world. Perhaps the Night of the Living Dead VR could even pull off the biggest switch of all and follow the story through the eyes of the zombies themselves.
The Night of the Living Dead VR remake is expected to be released in 2018.
How do you think the new Night of the Living Dead remake should handle its VR elements? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!

The RIVERDALE Kids Join The Funko Pop! Family
When a mysterious, somewhat risque live-action version of wholesome comic book characters from the pages of Archie Comics was first announced, none of us really knew what to think. But less than a year later, Riverdale on the CW is one of TV’s most addictive hours. Who knew a post-modern, sexy update of the usually squeaky clean Archie gang is just what the doctor ordered for 2017?
Now our friends at Funko are getting in on the Riverdale love fest, and producing their first wave of vinyl Pop! figures based on the show. The first wave lineup includes Archie Andrews, wearing his Riverdale High letterman’s jacket; Archie’s longtime friend and neighbor Betty Cooper; the new girl Veronica Lodge; social outcast Jughead Jones; and everyone’s favorite mean girl and head cheerleader, Cheryl Blossom, who will only be available only at Hot Topic locations.
In addition, there will also be an exclusive version of Jughead wearing his Serpents gang leather jacket, which will also be available only at Hot Topic. And although there isn’t a prototype figure yet, Funko have announced that fan-must-have Josie McCoy, leader of Riverdale High’s #1 band Josie and the Pussycats, will be available exclusively at SDCC and Hot Topic next summer.
You can check out images of the first wave of Riverdale Pop! figures down below in our gallery.
Are you excited to add the Riverdale gang to your Funko collection? And who do you want to see appear in wave two? I’m putting an early vote out for Kevin Keller myself. Be sure to let us know down below in the comments.

Dakota Fanning Lives for STAR TREK in PLEASE STAND BY Trailer
For over five decades, Star Trek has used its science fiction trappings to explore the human condition across the final frontier. Star Trek (and its subsequent spinoffs and movies) has taken on a life of its own, and it means a lot to many fans around the world. Some more than others. Next year, Dakota Fanning is portraying a dedicated Trekker named Wendy Welcott in a new feature film called Please Stand By. In this story, Wendy is an autistic young woman who is desperate to submit her Star Trek script to a screenwriting contest. But as the new trailer demonstrates, what Wendy really wants is permission to go home.
Naturally, there are a lot of Trek references in the trailer, including a very deep cut from Star Trek: The Animated Series with the name of Dr. McCoy’s daughter. Star Trek Into Darkness‘ Alice Eve co-stars as Wendy’s sister, Audrey, which seems appropriate for this movie. Patton Oswalt also makes a big impression as a cop who manages to relate to Wendy by demonstrating his command of the Klingon language. Honestly, we wouldn’t be surprised if Oswalt really can speak Klingon.
The beginning of the trailer teases a scene from Wendy’s Star Trek script, and she offers a few details about the story, including Spock’s visit to Deep Space Nine. But this story may be the only real adventure that Wendy ever gets to experience. The video shows us just how regimented Wendy’s life is, as she’s forced to live with a caretaker according to a strict schedule. We can also see that Wendy is very resourceful and clever, but she may still have to reach out to other people to see her quest through to the end.
Please Stand By was written by Michael Golamco and directed by Ben Lewin, and it will hit theaters and On-Demand platforms on January 26, 2018.

The Pull List: BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES II, WITCHBLADE, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and More!
Welcome, Wednesday Warriors! It’s that time of the week again. Time to storm the gates, empty our wallets, and bring home a fresh stack of new comics. Before you head to the shop, arm yourself with a few recommendations—add a new title or two to your list. And for you big spenders out there, we also have a complete list of this week’s releases, so treat yourself to some comic books.
BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES II #1

Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #1 from DC Comics and IDW Publishing
Written By: James Tynion IV
Art By: Freddie Williams II
Colors By: Jeremy Colwell
Letters By: Tom Napolitano
The first Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series was a blast, so we were pretty excited when it was announced that we’d be getting a second crossover from the original creative team of James Tynion IV and Freddie Willaims II. The appropriately titled Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II is both a great Batman comic book and a great Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comic book. Fans of either property will find tons to love in this second event, especially once they get a look at the gorgeous artwork. Williams’ storytelling and character work is topnotch, some of the best stuff happening in comics right now. The first series is currently on the stands in a collected edition, so you should pick that up and then jump right into this book.
WITCHBLADE #1

Witchblade #1 from Image Comics and Top Cow Productions
Written By: Caitlin Kittredge
Art By: Roberta Ingranata
Colors By: Bryan Valenza
Letters By: Troy Peteri
I’ll admit that my familiarity with the Witchblade series is minimal. For whatever reason, it was a comic I always wanted to check out but never did. Lucky for me, Witchblade is relaunching with a new creative team and new #1, so it is the perfect time to give the book a shot. Turns out, Witchblade is pretty great. Caitlin Kittredge, Roberta Ingranata, and Bryan Valenza do a great job of sucking us into a mystery about violence, death, and an ancient artifact that apparently turns the bearer into a supreme warrior. I dug the hell out of this first issue and am excited to see where this series goes. I guess I’m a Witchblade fan now.
KLAUS AND THE CRISIS IN XMASVILLE #1

Klaus and the Crisis in Xmasville #1 from BOOM! Studios
Written By: Grant Morrison
Art By: Dan Mora
Colors By: Dan Mora
Letters By: Ed Dukeshire
This high-concept one-shot pairs Grant Morrison with artist Dan Mora and the two deliver a trippy, dimension-bending fantasy adventure tale that is like DC Comics at its craziest but with Santa Claus in the lead role. It’s weird in the way that only Grant Morrison can do weird, which is a good thing. Dan Mora’s work is superb, as well, and his crisp, clean line work helps to make sense of all the madness that this issue is constantly throwing at you. It’s the season for believing, folks, and we believe in Klaus.
CAPTAIN AMERICA #696

Captain America #696 from Marvel Comics
Written By: Mark Waid
Art By: Chris Samnee
Colors By: Matthew Wilson
Letters By: VC’s Joe Caramagna
Nobody draws better action sequences than Chris Samnee, especially when he’s paired with wordsmith Mark Waid and color wizard Matthew Wilson. Captain America #696 continues Steve Rogers’ ride across America to reconnect with the people of the country. This is essentially a one-shot that feels all at once classic and modern in its structure and themes. This is, without a doubt, Marvel’s best book. It’s practically a template for awesome superhero comics and that is no small feat. Beautifully drawn, elegantly told, and featuring an extended fight between Cap and The Swordsman, Captain America #696 is damn near perfect.
Okay, that’s it for us this week! Check out the complete list of this week’s books below and let us know in the comments what you’re reading and loving these days.
