Who Is DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN’S Heather Glenn? Her Tangled Marvel Comics History, Explained
In the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again, the series introduces viewers to a new love interest in Matt Murdock’s life, Heather Glenn. The Acolyte actress Margarita Levieva plays her. In the series, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) meets Heather on a blind coffee date, which a co-worker arranges under somewhat false pretenses. Matt soon hits it off with the therapist and best-selling author and the two become romantic. While the character may be new to the MCU, she does have a long history in Marvel Comics. Here’s the history of Heather Glenn, one of Daredevil’s many tragic love stories.

Heather Glenn first appeared in Daredevil #126, published in 1975. She was created by writer Marv Wolfman, creator of Blade and Bullseye, and artist Rob Brown. Heather grew up in a life of privilege as the daughter of Maxwell Glenn, the CEO of Glenn Industries. She first met Matt Murdock when she discovered him now living at the apartment of her ex-boyfriend Frankie. Using her spare keys, she walked in and found Matt there instead. Realizing Matt was a bigger catch than Frankie, who she referred to as “a creep,” she began flirting with him right away. She even became a secretary for the law firm of Murdock & Nelson.

A bit of a bleeding heart type, Heather helped Matt and his partner Foggy Nelson open up a legal clinic called the Storefront. The intent was that they use the Storefront by those Hell’s Kitchen residents in need without deep pockets. Although Matt finds Heather a bit of an annoying pest, the two soon develop feelings for each other. Heather actually replaces Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff as Matt’s love interest, after the title became renamed to Daredevil and Black Widow for a time. Heather helps Matt in his fight against disinformation in the media, which is specifically targeting urban vigilantes like Daredevil.

Their relationship took a turn when Zebediah Killgrave/Purple Man entered the picture. MCU fans will remember as David Tennant’s villainous character from Jessica Jones. He used his persuasion powers on Heather’s father Maxwell Glenn, making him complicit in several serious crimes. Matt Murdock attempted to prove Maxwell’s innocence. However, the guilt over what he’d done under Killgrave’s control caused Glenn to take his own life in jail. Around this time, a despondent and grieving Heather discovered that Matt was Daredevil. She blames him for her father’s death, as Daredevil originally apprehended him. She then breaks up with him. Not long after, Heather takes over her father’s company.

Once Heather takes over Glenn Industries, she becomes a target for Killgrave herself. He uses his powers, forcing Heather to put a gun to her own head, but Daredevil saves her just in time. Eventually, she realizes Matt wasn’t responsible for her father’s death, and the two rekindle a romantic relationship. However, during the 1980s renaissance for the Daredevil comics run, things took a dark turn for Heather. First, Heather’s inexperience causes her to lose control of her company, allowing criminals to take over. Daredevil dismantles the operation, but Heather’s company is severely damaged. Matt Murdock asks her to marry him and Heather says yes. However, her reluctance to just become Matt’s wife and remain a businesswoman makes her deeply unhappy. And this is where things get really screwed up.

Matt’s best friend and business partner Foggy Nelson and his ex-girlfriend Black Widow realize that this relationship is toxic for both parties. Her business is failing and Matt can’t focus on his law career or his crime-fighting. So they forge “Dear John” letters to Matt and Heather, with each breaking up with the other. (Talk about overstepping.) This causes Heather to descend into alcoholism and become a party girl. She dates many men, including Tony Stark. Heather eventually breaks down and calls Matt to come see her, hoping to reignite the romance. She tells him to rush over to her place, as it’s an emergency. Matt neglects to save a woman in a domestic violence situation, deciding to help Heather first.

When Matt finally arrives at Heather’s home, he finds her drunk, and she admits to lying about an emergency so he would rush over. Furious, he leaves. He soon discovers the woman in the domestic violence situation he ignored earlier died, and he blames Heather and refuses her calls. She takes it as his final rejection of her and hangs herself in her home. This occurs in Daredevil #220 (1985), which was written by influential Batman writer Denny O’Neil. Matt discovers her lifeless body and blames himself for her death. It is yet another tragic ending to one of Matt Murdock’s romantic relationships.

In Born Again, Heather Glenn is a very different character. We don’t know if she was born into a life of wealth yet or not. But she’s not the flighty woman who became involved with Matt in the comics. Her comics persona as someone who wants to help the less fortunate is, in a sense, honored by the fact that she’s a respected licensed therapist. We simply hope that her journey does not end the same way it did for her comic book counterpart.
Although this marks the first appearance of Heather Glenn in live-action, she has appeared before in a way. A woman named Heather breaks up with Matt Murdock over voicemail in the 2003 Daredevil movie. We can assume that was Heather Glenn. Thankfully, Born Again is doing her character far more justice. And we’re curious to see what her future brings.

Somehow, David Arquette’s Dewey Will Return in SCREAM 7 (As Will Scott Foley AND Matthew Lillard)
Despite a slew of controversy over the past couple of years, the Scream franchise is moving forward with its seventh installment. The previous film left the Core Four and Gale Weathers (we assume, considering she didn’t die) in a relatively good place, with Sam finally moving towards healing and peace after killing Richie’s remaining family. (It’s wild but true.) Now, this next film is going back to the original with Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott as the main character.

In a bit of wild casting news, David Arquette’s Deputy Dewey Riley will be returning in Scream 7. What?! We all witnessed Dewey’s incredibly emotional death in Scream (2022). And we’re not so sure we want this movie to undo it. After all, what is a franchise if it has no stakes? Still, Scream does have a history of shenanigans. So we’ll have to wait and see how exactly Dewey makes his grand return. Dewey, of course, is married to Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox, who will also appear in the movie.

In addition to Arquette’s’ Dewey, Matthew Lillard AND Scott Foley will return to the franchise in Scream 7. Yes, the guy who played Roman Bridger, a Ghostface who died back in Scream 3, and Stu Macher, who died in the original Scream movie nearly 30 years ago, are going to be in this new film. Dewey absolutely shot Roman in the head, so there’s no way that character is still alive. We also saw Sidney knock a TV onto Stu’s head and BBQ his brain so, despite ongoing fan theories that he is still alive, he seemed pretty dead to us.

We can assume they will all appear perhaps in some flashbacks or perhaps in a video like Randy Meeks did in Scream 3. One thing we don’t hope happens is more Ghost of Ghostfaces Past foolery, like the previous two films did with Billy. Please don’t do that again.

Unpacking Maureen Prescott’s Devastating Story in SCREAM 3It seems a bit weird to announce their return instead of allowing it to be a shock for fans. But, surprises are hard to hold onto in a world where people are constantly taking videos and photos of people trying to film a movie in peace.
The next film will be interesting, to say the least. Who will don that infamous mask next? Here’s what we know about Scream 7.
TitleThis film is indeed called Scream 7, which could be stylized as Scream VII.
Scream 7’s Plot
As stated above, Sam and Tara’s story came to a neat conclusion in Scream VI. And Sidney is living a happy life with her husband Mark and her daughters. It seems like there was no one else hiding in the shadows who would want to kill Sidney. Her story was complete and she found peace. So, the plot of Scream 7 is really up in the air. Depending on this film’s release, someone from 30 years ago could decide to celebrate the events of Scream (1996) in a sinister way. We shall see.
Neve Campbell says she expects to get the final script sometime in August, so hopefully nothing will leak before they are ready to tell.
Behind-the-ScenesKevin Williamson, the writer of Scream (1996), will direct Scream 7. He is replacing Christopher Landon, who left the film after Melissa Barerra’s controversial (and very upsetting) firing and Jenna Ortega’s exit. Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt, who wrote the last two installments, will pen this sequel. The Radio Silence team will step back from directing duties to executive produce Scream 7.
In an IndieWire interview, Campbell confirmed that filming will start in December 2024.
“We were supposed to start in September, but we’re going to start in December now because of some scheduling stuff with Kevin and myself and having that all aligned,” she shared. “And actually, I think it’s a good thing, because we’re going to be able to have the time to get it really right. So I’m very excited about it.”
It seems that filming is relatively on schedule. In early January, director Kevin Williamson posted an IG photo raving about having a good time on set with the cast and crew. The clapperboard said that it was day one of filming.
Scream 7’s CastRight now, we know that Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding are returning from the previous film. The latter two are interesting considering Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin’s stories are closely tied to the Carpenter sisters, neither of whom will be in Scream 7. We don’t know if they will just make a quick cameo or if their stories will tie closely into Sidney’s in some fashion. We assume Roger L. Jackson will return as the voice of Ghostface.
Deadline reports that Scream 7 added Joel McHale to its cast as Sidney’s husband Mark, which means that she is not married to Patrick Dempsey’s Mark Kincaid from Scream 3. Most fans assumed that when she referred to Mark, she meant that character. They did seem to have some flirtation and were last seen hanging out at her house with Dewey (RIP) and Gale. Welp.

When asked if he might return as Mark Kincaid, Patrick Dempsey previously said it was possible. Dempsey noted of reprising his role in Scream 7, “I’m waiting on the script, “There has been a conversation about it. I haven’t seen anything yet, so we’ll see what happens. … It’s always good to have a job.”
Unless this story involves Hollywood in some way, there’s no reason for Mark Kincaid to return.
We do know that at least one of Sidney’s kids is making an appearance. Deadline reports that Isabel May (1883) will portray Sidney’s currently unnamed daughter in Scream 7. It is not clear if she will be a main target like her mom was back in 1996. Considering the film releases in February 2026, it is possible that someone wants to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original killings by targeting Sid’s kid. She would be at least 14 years old by that time, according to the universe’s timeline.

Deadline reports that Asa Germann, who is currently known for his role as Gen V‘s Sam Riordan, will join the cast of Scream 7 in some unknown role. Maybe he will be one of the next killers. We certainly know he’s not above taking someone out onscreen. In December, Deadline also reported genre staple McKenna Grace has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Possibly another Sidney kid, or just fodder for Ghostface.
Mark Consuelos will also be in Scream 7 in some undisclosed role. Many may know him from Riverdale, where he played Hiram Lodge, or their moms perhaps watch him now on Live With Kelly & Mark.
Scream 7 Release DateScream 7 will arrive in theaters on February 27, 2026. The cast and crew shared the release date on social media.

How Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Universe Inspired 25 Years of Marvel Movies
Today, Marvel is one of the world’s biggest entertainment brands with a cinematic universe that has grossed approximately 31 billion dollars since Iron Man in 2008. But it wasn’t always this way. For a variety of complex reasons, Marvel Entertainment filed for bankruptcy in the late ’90s. The company canceled much of its once-expansive comic book line and, by the early 2000s, had to rethink its entire publishing strategy. One of Marvel’s most successful publishing initiatives happened during this period of rebirth—Marvel’s Ultimate line of comics. And that Ultimate Universe informed not just the MCU, but all Marvel movies, period.
Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men Launch in 2000
In 2000, after 40 years of entangled continuity, new Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada realized they had to bring in new readers or die off slowly. Under the guidance of up-and-coming writers Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar and beloved artists Mark Bagley and Adam Kubert, their two biggest properties, Spider-Man and the X-Men, received fresh 21st-century beginnings. Not to mention brand new first issues. The Ultimate Comics line would start a new universe from scratch. It was a universe with both Peter Parker and Xavier’s mutants starting out in the modern day. The entire storytelling approach was updated, more like shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and hit movies like The Matrix. The edict for the Ultimate line was to reimagine the Marvel Universe as if it were a blockbuster movie. Incorporating the storytelling language of Hollywood was the goal.
The Ultimate Universe Reinvigorates Marvel Comics
This approach worked beyond Marvel’s wildest dreams. In the early 2000s, Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men ruled the monthly comics sales charts, often outselling the legacy Marvel comics. The Ultimates, a version of The Avengers, soon followed in 2002, and Ultimate Fantastic Four two years later. Retelling classic stories with a fresh approach, fans and critics alike flocked to the Ultimate line. After retelling most of Marvel’s greatest hits, the line simply ran out of steam by 2015. But before it folded, the Ultimate line made a massive impact on how Marvel’s characters were portrayed in live-action. This is how the Ultimate line influenced the MCU, and Marvel movies overall.
The Fox X-Men Films Find Early Ultimate Comics Inspiration
The influence of the Ultimate Universe started even before the MCU, with the Fox X-Men films. However, in this case, the X-Men films (or just singular film at this point) helped to inform the Ultimate X-Men series by Mark Millar and Adam Kubert. X-Men became a smash hit in the summer of 2000, and when Ultimate X-Men #1 hit that December, the inspiration was obvious. Instead of brightly colored costumes, the X-Men all wore black leather. Magneto’s look was very inspired by Ian McKellen’s costume in the film. But as the cinematic franchise rolled on, Ultimate X-Men began to influence the films.

One of the early story arcs saw a military raid on Xavier’s School. This was a direct influence on the storyline in 2003’s X2. (In the comics, it was Colonel Wraith, who became Stryker in the film.) Also, for better or worse, the way Ultimate X-Men handled the Dark Phoenix Saga was the movie’s template. The idea that Jean Grey always had a Phoenix persona inside her, one that Xavier tried to psychically control, came in Ultimate X-Men first. Magneto’s attack on the White House in Days of Future Past, as well as reprogramming Sentinels to do his bidding, also originated in Ultimate X-Men. The Fox films did differ from Ultimate X-Men in several key ways though. Wolverine was far more amoral in the comics. He even tried to kill Cyclops, hoping to remove him as a romantic obstacle with Jean Grey. We’re grateful Hugh Jackman never went there.
The Ultimate Spider-Man Influences on the Cinematic Wallcrawlers
The original Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy took most of its inspiration from the classic Stan Lee/Steve Ditko era of comics. This makes sense, as those were the comics that Raimi grew up on. Ultimate Spider-Man was barely on comic book store shelves when David Koepp was writing the script for 2002’s Spider-Man. One relatively small thing from Ultimate Spider-Man influenced Raimi, as he picked up on Brian Michael Bendis’ idea of Peter and MJ meeting first in high school. The genetically enhanced spider that bit Peter coming from Oscorp was also a Bendis idea that also made its way into the Amazing Spider-Man films.

But the MCU Spider-Man really is where the Ultimate Spider-Man influences began in earnest. The Tom Holland Spidey spent his entire trilogy in high school, just as the Ultimate version did throughout his run. This Peter was less of a lone wolf, and found mentorship from not only Nick Fury, but also Tony Stark. Both of these were key elements in the MCU version of Spider-Man. And although his Aunt May wasn’t as young and attractive as Marisa Tomei, Ultimate Spider-Man’s May Parker was an influence, as she was far more contemporary, and not a doddering old lady. We’d also be remiss not to mention Miles Morales, who has yet to appear in live-action. But he’s made a huge stamp in cinema in the Spider-Verse animated films. And he’s another Ultimate universe creation.
The Ultimates Became a “Rough Draft” for the MCU AvengersWithout a doubt, the biggest Ultimate Comics inspiration for the films came from 2002’s The Ultimates, which was essentially “Ultimate Avengers” in everything but name. The MCU borrowed a metric ton from this series. Several elements came directly from Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s 25-issue opus, which told of the formation of an Avengers-style team on Earth-1610. For starters, the most obvious one is Nick Fury. In the original Marvel comics continuity, Fury was a Caucasian World War II vet, now head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ultimates reimagined him as looking just like actor Samuel L. Jackson. So when the time came to make Iron Man, they cast the actual Sam Jackson in the role.

In The Ultimates, it was S.H.I.E.L.D. who formed the team, not Hulk’s teenage buddy Rick Jones. The Chitauri, who invaded Earth in The Avengers, were also the first big threat the Ultimates faced, an alien race created for this run. Mark Millar decided the name “Skrulls” was too hokey. The MCU kept the shapeshifting Skrulls, but named the alien army under Loki’s command the Chitauri in The Avengers. Bruce Banner received his Hulk powers in an attempt to recreate the Super Soldier Serum, something not in the classic Marvel Comics, which the MCU would run with.

And while Tony Stark has always been a smug, sarcastic playboy, The Ultimates leaned into that persona far more heavily. It definitely served as inspiration for Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal in the MCU. Mark Millar also made both Hawkeye and Black Widow S.H.I.EL.D. agents. Their costumes evoked a lot of Bryan Hitch’s artwork. Mark Millar also gave Clint Barton a wife and kids, something Marvel Studios would use for Hawkeye’s backstory in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Much of Captain America’s costume, especially in World War II, closely matched his Ultimates design.
Where the MCU Wisely Deviated from The UltimatesWhere Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige wisely deviated from The Ultimates was in the team’s personas. To put it frankly, Millar wrote almost all of them as surly jerks, with major attitude problems. Even his Steve Rogers was old-fashioned in a not-charming way, but often in a sexist, gross way. He also made Cap jingoistic over idealistic. Millar portrayed Thor as a possibly insane man who only thinks he’s a Norse god, something the MCU didn’t even toy with. And the Ultimates version of Natasha Romanoff was actually evil, a traitor to the team. She even had Hawkeye’s family murdered. Wiser heads prevailed, and the MCU Black Widow kept her classic Marvel Comics personality. In fact, almost all of the MCU Avengers retained their classic Stan Lee personalities, thank the Celestials.

Other over-the-top shock value elements from The Ultimates not used in the MCU were twins Wanda and Pietro Maximoff in an incestuous relationship. (Yes, they really went there.) Also, having Hank Pym be a rage-filled domestic abuser was tossed out when it came time to make Ant-Man. While the latter had a basis in the classic Marvel universe, that was born out of an editorial misunderstanding, and Hank’s character found redemption. There was no such redemption for Ultimate Hank. And Loki in the Ultimate Universe has none of the charm of the Tom Hiddleston version. A lot of these more cringe shock value elements from The Ultimates dated badly. Kevin Feige was wise to adhere to classic Marvel rather than try to be edgy in this instance. While The Ultimates was undeniably a big touchstone, Feige chose its plot and aesthetics over character traits.
Ultimate Fantastic Four Becomes the Blueprint for Disliked 2015 Movie
There was also an Ultimate Fantastic Four, written by Mark Millar and Brian Michael Bendis, in 2004. It didn’t have much influence on the first two Fantastic Four films, which took a sitcom approach to the original comics. But it did have a huge influence on the notorious 2015 Fantastic Four from Josh Trank. In Ultimate Fantastic Four, the characters were reimagined as being in their late teens/early twenties. Reed Richards and Ben Grimm were childhood best friends, Reed a child prodigy. Recruited into a think tank in New York, he meets Professor Storm, the head of the Project, and his children, Susan and Johnny. Reed also becomes the rival of Victor Van Damme, a fellow student. They all get their powers not via cosmic rays on a space mission, but thanks to Reed opening a portal to the Negative Zone.
Does all that sound familiar? If it does, that’s because all of this formed the basis for the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot from Josh Trank. While the comic was much better (and more clever) than the movie, it still veered away too much from what people loved about the FF. The new MCU version seems to be leaning harder into the classic Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four comics from the ‘60s. Certainly more than any previous live-action incarnation, which were always desperately trying to make it modern and “more hip.” But Millar and Bendis’ Ultimate Fantastic Four, without a doubt, highly influenced at least one live-action version of the team. While the Ultimate line proved to be a great launching pad for live-action Marvel, this is one instance where it backfired.
Without the Ultimate Universe, the MCU Looks Very Different
The Ultimate Universe in the comics eventually outlived its mandate. The MCU itself became the defacto modern version of Marvel’s classic heroes for a new generation. Besides, after fifteen years, they simply ran out of major classic Marvel comics to adapt in a more contemporary way. This is a problem the MCU is currently facing, at about the same point in its history. But recently, Marvel Comics reinitiated the Ultimate line, with even bolder takes on classic franchises, to great success once again. This time, under the creative direction of writer Jonathan Hickman. Just as the Ultimate brand found a second wind, we know the MCU will too. But without a doubt, those original Ultimate Comics left their mark, especially on Marvel as a cinematic franchise. Marvel as we know it today likely wouldn’t exist without them.

Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter Join DEXTER: RESURRECTION
Dexter will never die, apparently. Dexter: Original Sin brought Michael C. Hall back to narrate the prequel series about his early life. But wait, there’s more. There is yet another new sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, that will have Michael C. Hall return to his infamous role yet again. Yes, we are also wondering how this will happen but we are along for the ride. In addition to Hall, it also sounds like this spinoff will have an incredible cast. The latest actors to join in on the murderous fun of Dexter: Resurrection? Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter.
Dexter: Resurrection‘s CastThe newest star to join the cast of Dexter: Resurrection is Neil Patrick Harris. Neil Patrick Harris will guest star in the role of “Lowell.” Additionally, Krysten Ritter was recently announced as a part of the series. The Marvel’s Jessica Jones actress will play the role of “Mia” in the series. No other information is yet available.

Also part of the cast is Peter Dinklage. Dinklage will play Leon Prater, a character who is described as “a billionaire venture capitalist. To the world, Leon is a generous philanthropist, but behind his polished exterior lies dark intrigue.” Sounds like a great role for Dinklage.

In addition to Dinklage and Hall, Uma Thurman will have a starring role in Dexter: Resurrection. According to Deadline, she will portray Charley, the Head of Security for a mysterious billionaire named Leon Prater. Charley is a former Special Ops officer who worked for high-level private security jobs before taking on her position under Prater.

There aren’t many details about Dexter: Resurrection at this time. According to Variety, it takes place in modern day and is a follow-up to 2021’s Dexter: New Blood, which took place ten years after the original show’s events. This is very, very interesting, considering Dexter literally died at the end of New Blood. The name of this new series is very on the nose, indeed.
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO, about Dexter: Resurrection. “While Dexter: Resurrections will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”
What Is the Release Date for Dexter: Resurrection and Dexter: Original Sin?Dexter: Resurrection will hit Paramount+ with SHOWTIME in summer 2025 after Dexter: Original Sin’s December 2024 release.

A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES Hulu TV Series OFFICIALLY Canceled (Latest News as of 2025)
If you’ve heard of Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses book series, then you are possibly (likely?) a rabid fan. Frequently abbreviated to ACOTAR, the fantasy series tells the story of Feyre Archeron, a young mortal huntress who gets swept into a journey in the faerie lands of Prythian. With a sprawling world, deeply flawed and intriguing characters, and a whole lot of steamy love scenes, the ACOTAR series has attracted legions of fans since Maas published the first book in 2015. And while Hulu had planned to develop a TV series based on the beloved books, that has changed. In February of 2024, TVLine reported the Court of Thorns and Roses TV series was not moving forward. And now, in February of 2025, it seems this news has been made as official as it can be. Hulu’s Court of Thorns and Roses TV series has wilted and the series is as dead as it can be.

In 2021, Maas first shared the news about the TV series via a now-deleted Instagram post. But that post let us know she was working with Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander) to adapt A Court of Thorns and Roses for Hulu. Since then, we didn’t hear any updates for a while, but Moore shared in November 2023 that Hulu was still game for the ACOTAR series. He noted, “It’s still in development… We’ve written some scripts, and we’re just sort of waiting. I think the whole town is kind of waiting to see if we have actors before things really move forward, but it’s still in development.”
But that appears to no longer be the case. During the 2024 Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich didn’t have any updates about the Court of Thorns and Roses TV series. Sources told TVLine at the time that the project is no longer moving forward and that Hulu is not looking to shop it to other streamers. And that information appears to have been true.

Bloomsbury Publishing
Variety reports that sources indicate Maas will sell the TV adaptation rights for A Court of Thorns and Roses to different studios once Disney’s series option rights expire in late Summer 2025.
It’s too bad. Maas has a massive fan base, hungry to immerse themselves in her worlds. A Court of Thorns and Roses TV series would have had a vast playground to explore. And given Moore’s experience in telling epic stories, he seemed like an excellent choice to work with Maas—especially given his role in bringing Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander to the screen.

Mia Goth, Cosmo Jarvis Join Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY, Plus Full Cast List and More
What is a director, even one of Hollywood’s best, supposed to do after delivering an epic Best Picture winner? For Christopher Nolan, the answer is making one of the most famous epics ever. After some wild speculation and some big name casting news, we finally know exactly what story he will after Oppenheimer. Universal Pictures announced Nolan’s next movie is an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey.
The Latest Casting News From Christopher Nolan’s The OdysseyChristopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
— Universal Pictures (@UniversalPics) December 23, 2024
Most recently, Shōgun star Cosmo Jarvis joined the cast of The Odyssey. We bet he’s playing a suitor. Mia Goth also recently came aboard The Odysseys‘s cast, increasing the brightness of an already massively star-powered cast. There is no casting yet for Goth.

Additionally, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin and Samantha Morton have joined The Odyssey. Once again, we don’t know who they will play in this film, but we do have some guesses.

Deadline also revealed that Oppenheimer‘s Benny Safdie will reteam with Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey. In Oppenheimer, Safdie played physicist Edward Teller, but it’s not yet known who the actor will play in this upcoming adventure.

That’s a lot of names, but not nearly all of them. Here are ALL the actors we know have joined Christoper Nolan’s The Odyssey.
Matt DamonTom HollandAnne HathawayZendayaRobert PattinsonLupita Nyong’oBenny SafdieCharlize TheronHimesh PatelElliot PageMia GothBill IrwinJon BernthalCosmo JarvisSamantha MortonJesse GarciaWill Yun LeeCorey Hawkins Michael Vlamis Iddo Goldberg Nick TarabayJimmy Gonzales Maurice CompteChristopher Nolan Is Heading to Real-Life Odysseus Stop, Goat IslandChristopher Nolan isn’t known to do anything by halves, and for his latest movie, The Odyssey, he’s taking his crew to the real-life location that Homer supposedly imagined Odysseus visited, Goat Island in Siciliy—also known as Favignana island. Reports indicate the movie will also film in Sicily’s Eolian islands, U.K. and Morocco.
But what could measure up to a real-world location that Odysseus wandered through in his epic tale, cooking goats and gathering supplies? Nothing, if you ask us.
More About Christopher Nolan’s The OdysseyChristopher Nolan is moving on after Oppenheimer by going back. Way back. Described as a “mythic action epic,” his version of the ancient epic poem The Odyssey will rely on cutting edge technology to bring the story to life. Universal Pictures said the longtime IMAX enthusiast will be using “brand new” tech to shoot for the large-scale format.
But how he will shoot the film isn’t nearly as interesting as to what the film is actually about. It’s hard to imagine anyone would have guessed Nolan would adapt The Odyssey even if they had 20 years to figure it out. (If you don’t get that reference, this movie will be very educational for you!) Even then, there’s still so much we don’t know about the project. Will this be a traditional, faithful adaptation? Will it be a modern take on the story? And will Armand Assante and George Clooney appear for a Spider-Man: No Way Home style crossover?

While we don’t know any setting or style specifics, we do know who is playing Odysseus. Matt Damon is set to lead the star-studded film. Nolan’s The Odyssey will also feature Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, and Charlize Theron. We also know the movie will arrive in theaters on July 17, 2026.

That gives us plenty of time to start guessing which legendary characters from Homer’s epic everyone is going to play. (Theron as Circe, Calypso, Penelope, or Athena? She’s perfect for literally all of them.) It also gives us time to wonder just how good this movie will be. No one delivers epics live Christopher Nolan. What’s he going to be capable of when he makes one of the most famous epics ever?

Disney+ Tiana Series Officially Canceled
Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially scrapped the animated Tiana series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series was to follow Princess Tiana from Disney’s 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. This decision is part of a broader shift away from producing long-form content exclusively for the streaming platform. We were looking forward to a Tiana series, as she is one of our all-time favorite Disney princesses, so we’re sad to hear it’s been canceled.
Disney canceled more than just the Tiana series. The studio also shelved a feature-length animated film that would go straight to Disney+. As The Hollywood Reporter stated, Disney’s Vancouver studio expects layoffs due to the shift away from streaming-specific content. The rush for streaming exclusive content began during the pandemic. Then-CEO Bob Chapek pushed for original content from Disney’s various studios.

Disney announced the Tiana series back in December 2020. Its original concept was to be a musical, with Anika Noni Rose reprising her role as the titular character. Sources close to Disney+ revealed that despite multiple changes in the creative team, the show could not surmount the estimated production costs.

Despite the Tiana series’ cancellation, a The Princess and the Frog-inspired special is currently in development at Disney. Currently though we know few details about this project. However, the special will supposedly feature an all-new story based on the original The Princess and the Frog film, with Joyce Sherri directing and Steve Anderson writing the story.
This isn’t unexpected for Disney, as last year, the company announced that Pixar would no longer prioritize developing long-form episodic content for Disney+. We learned this news after the release of Dream Productions and Win or Lose. However, Disney Animation is reportedly still aiming for one theatrical release every year in addition to other smaller projects.

Krysten Ritter Joins DEXTER: RESURRECTION
Dexter will never die, apparently. Dexter: Original Sin brought Michael C. Hall back to narrate the prequel series about his early life. But wait, there’s more. There is yet another new sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, that will have Michael C. Hall return to his infamous role yet again. Yes, we are also wondering how this will happen but we are along for the ride. In addition to Hall, it also sounds like this spinoff will have an incredible cast. The latest actor to join in on the murderous fun of Dexter: Resurrection? Krysten Ritter.
Dexter: Resurrection‘s CastThe newest star to join the cast of Dexter: Resurrection is Krysten Ritter.

2025 Oscars Include Wins for DUNE: PART TWO, Ghostface Actor, and WICKED, But Not Too Much for Genre Movies
Hollywood’s biggest night didn’t deliver too much when it came to nerdy victories. Although some genre/nerdy movies were nominated for the Oscars in 2025, it didn’t feel quite as genre-celebratory as other years, like, for example, when Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water won Best Picture in 2018. Still, nerdy fare wasn’t completely shut out. Among the winners of the night were Dune: Part Two, Wicked, The Substance, and, unexpectedly, Scream (2022)’s Ghostface killer, Mikey Madison. Here’s what went down from a nerdy lens.
Dune: Part Two Is the Nerdiest Movie to Win at the 2025 Oscars
First up, let’s look at the 2025 Oscar winners who won for being straight-up genre delights. Dune: Part Two deserves all the applause, in our opinion, as it’s definitely the nerdiest of the films to win a prize at the 2025 Oscars. At the 97th Academy Awards, Dune: Part Two took home two Oscars. Dune: Part Two won in the categories of Best Sound (Gareth John, Richard King, Ron Bartlett and Doug Hemphill) and Best Visual Effects (Paul Lambert, Stephen James, Rhys Salcombe and Gerd Nefzer). And taking a look at the sandworms of Arrakis and the immersive and gorgeous soundscape of the film, we are so glad that it did. We love that such an unapologetically sci-fi film, driven by complex lore and a true love of the genre, received the highest honors in movie-making.
Wicked Also Represented for Genre-Lovers at the Academy Awards
Another nerdy movie, Wicked, also won a couple of prizes at the 2025 Oscars. Wicked is differently nerdy than Dune: Part Two, but it absolutely still qualifies as a fantasy/genre film. It was one of our favorite movies of the year, to boot. Cynthia Ervio and Ariana Grande totally floored us with their vocal prowess, and the spectacle of the movie went unmatched. At the 97th Academy Awards, Wicked also won two awards. Wicked won Oscars for Best Costume Design (Paul Tazewell) and Best Production Design (Nathan Crowley; Set Decoration: Lee Sandales). The wonderful world of Oz was both very well-dressed and incredibly intricate, so we also applaud these choices. Paul Tazewell also became the first Black man to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design, a historical and important honor. Many kudos to Tazewell. (And his impeccable Oscars look.)
The Substance Takes Home One Award at the Oscars
We want to see more horror representation at the Oscars! We were rooting for The Substance, Nosferatu, and Alien: Romulus to take home some big awards, but, alas, Nosferatu and Alien: Romulus were shut out at the Oscars. Only The Substance won a prize. Still, we’re cheering it on. The Substance won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Pierre-Olivier Persin, Stéphanie Guillon and Marilyne Scarselli). A very well-deserved win.
Some Secretly Nerdy Winners at the 2025 Oscars Included Ghostface and Gamora
There were a couple other secretly nerdy wins at the Oscars as well. For one, Mikey Madison became the first-ever Oscar-winning Ghostface actor. Madison played Ghostface (one of two) in 2022’s Scream reboot. And now, Ghostface is officially also an Academy Award winner. Mikey Madison won the honor of 2025’s Best Actress at the Oscars for her turn in Anora. Additionally, long-time genre actress Zoe Saldaña won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Emilia Pérez. In the geeky world, Saldaña is known for playing Gamora in the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Uhura in the cinematic Star Trek universe, and Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar movie series. Saldaña also became the first American of Dominican origin to win an Oscar.

That’s about the size of the genre celebration at the Oscars. If you want to watch any of the nerdy Oscar winners or nominees, take a look at our piece here. You can also check out the complete list of winners below.
