Better late than never
Apologies, apologies, I've been promising this all month I know but the last few weeks have been the perfect storm of travel then the cold from Hades then losing my dear old orange cat and then copyedits for Shadow Kin. So haven't quite got to the Aussie Author Month post as quickly as I would have liked to.
Originally I was going to do a more detailed post on some of my favourite Aussie authors but given all of the above, I'm keeping it short and simple and giving away a book by an awesome Aussie author who is also an awesome person (and excellent travelling companion!), Keri Arthur.
Her latest book, Mercy Burns just came out last week, so if you like dragons and all things Keri, you need to check it out! To help you do just that, I'm giving away a copy. To enter, just comment on this post (this post only….comments on all other posts are eligible for the usual monthly contest, so to keep it simple, to win Keri's book, comment here) and tell me about one of your favourite Aussie authors (or why you must must have Keri's book). Winner will be drawn randomly at the end of the month.
And, if you'd like to help some other people be able to enjoy our fabulous Aussie Authors, please consider donating to the Indigenous Literacy Project.
30 Day Song Challenge – Day 10
Day 10 – A song that you can fall asleep to
You need the right sort of beat for sleepy music and a soothing sort of voice….plus something that's just gorgeous sounding and romantic doesn't hurt.
Sting – When We Dance

30 Day Song Challenge – Day 9
Day 9 – A song you can dance to
Well, heck I was a teenager in the 80′s, so it's got to be pop. And while I love ABBA, a lot of their songs aren't that easy to dance to, so I shall turn to my other great 80′s pop love…and a man with a very sexy voice.
Wham – I'm Your Man

Farewell
To my dear old orange cat, Tabasco, who left us this morning.
He fought the good fight against CRF but the last few days had been telling me he'd had enough.
Seeing as we got him around Easter 1995, I guess it's kind of fitting that he left at Easter time too. Hopefully he's up in kitty heaven with Jessie.
You were the sweetest cat (and possibly the stubbornest and loudest at time) and as always, you didn't stay long enough.
The torti cat and I are very sad.

30 Day Song Challenge Day 8
Day 8 – A song that you know all the words to
This is a tricky one for me because one of my pointless superpowers is a head stuffed full of music lyrics just waiting to pop up when I hear the music. Which means there are many many songs to which I know all the words. So I'm going with something a bit obscure, a fun song by two very talented Aussies who I figure most people who aren't Aussies may not have heard of.
Vika and Linda – When Will You Fall For Me (somewhat cheesy vid but hey, it was the 90′s)

30 Day Song Challenge – Day 7
Day Seven – A song that reminds you of something
This song reminds me of selling Shadow Kin because it was on my playlist for running on the elliptical which I did a fair bit of during the two weeks it took to go from first offer to sale and it's also the song I put on to snoopydance around the house to after I got the final call from Miriam. It's a good happy party song which I will always like!
I gotta feeling – The Blackeyed Peas (short at ad at the start of the vid…sorry!)

30 Day Song Challenge – Day 6
Day Six – A song that reminds you of somewhere
I've always liked Cher's voice and this was a song I latched onto when I was working in London for three months back in 1999. It's not really a happy song but this song, for some weird reason, cheered me up in the gloomy cold London days when I had homesick moments and reminds me of walking through the London streets, bundled up against the cold, chewing through batteries in my Walkman (yikes that was Walkman days) and not quite believing where I was.
Cher – Believe

30 Day Song Challenge – Day 5
Day 5 is a song that reminds you of someone. Of which there are many, but here's a favourite.
And my lips shall remain sealed as to who this reminds me of.
Pink – The One That Got Away (there's a bit of chat for about a min at the start of the vid so fast forward if you want to).

More LA
Still coughing and hacking here in Melbourne but a few more shots from the pre-convention tour (which is great fun and highly recommended if you get the chance).
The Hollywood Bowl
The Hollywood sign aka why Mel has bought a new point and shoot with a better zoom
Shrek's Star from the walk of fame. Many stars seen but this one was funny!
Eyeballs from Madame Tussaud's.
Cool detail from the Chinese Theatre and the prints of two men I adore (btw Judy Garland had TEEEEEENNNNYYYY feet. Seriously. Teeny).
View from the Santa Monica pier (Santa Monica was very pretty…would like to go back there)
La Brea – the tar pits with fake Mammoth and what happens to real Mammoths who fell in
30 Day Song Challenge – Day 4
Day 4 – A song that makes you sad
I'm pretty sure I first heard this on Grey's and it's a gorgeous heartbroken song. This isn't the studio version but it's beautiful anyway. And has extra cellow, which is always a good thing. So here is Brandi Carlile with Tragedy. (Sorry, one shot video, couldn't find one with an actual video other than Grey's montages which I'm happy to watch but might bore everyone else!)
