Come on over

My gorgeous new Melanie Scott site is live. Come on over and check it out.

I have to say thank you again to the lovely Sharon at Little Bytes Design who is whatever the level above web goddess is and translates all my vague ideas and babbling into loveliness and stuff that works and never tells me I’m crazy : )  And gives me hot pink velvet couches that make me happy. Now if I could just find the real life version. Though the cats would probably hog it and/or destroy the velvet.

To celebrate the new look, I’m giving away a copy of one of my all time favorite contemporary romances…Welcome to Temptation by Jenny Crusie. This was one of the first contemporaries I read when I was deciding to get serious about my writing and made me want to write books as sexy and smart and witty as hers.

WelcometoTemp

To win just comment here and tell me about something that makes you happy, be it hot pink couches, cats, good books, sunny autumn days or website code!

Happy Easter!

To celebrate you can have virtual chocolate eggs and one final Iron Kin snippet..2 days to go now. Until then, eat chocolate and be happy!

“Sainted bloody earth.” She’d finally found her tongue. Her cheeks still blushed pink but her eyes were furious. “How is it that no woman has killed you before now?”

“Women like me,” I said. I let a grin spread across my face and watched her expression grow even more furious. Apparently Saskia wasn’t most women. Which, in a perverse fashion, made her only more interesting. More fun to tease, definitely. “More than like me, actually.”

“Maybe. Until you open your mouth,” she shot back.

Another snippet

Again with the random…heh heh heh.

All the small noises in the square died as he descended. Everybody watched as he adjusted his long velvet coat and gazed around the square to survey those of us who waited. And I wasn’t the only one who shivered when a far-too-satisfied-smile spread across his features.

Just four days now!

The sound of the book

I use soundtracks for all my books because I find it’s one of the quickest ways for me to plug into the world and get writing. I generally have either my phone or iPod with me, so I can do just that if I’m out and about and get a chance to write.

I pick songs for atmosphere, songs for characters, songs for mood, songs that have a line of two of lyrics that make the muse go “oooh” even if I don’t always know why. Sometimes I listen to the whole soundtrack, sometimes I listen to one song on repeat, depending on what the scene I’m writing needs. I often pare the soundtrack down to the key songs for the revising part (I have one book where the revision soundtrack is five Dixie Chick songs…over and over and over again) but I didn’t do that with Iron Kin (in fact, the IK soundtrack is quite a long one by my standards). I’ve popped the soundtrack up on the book page on my website but thought I’d put it here too.

Bring Night – Sia

All The Lovers – Kylie Minogue

The Trouble With Me – Robbie Williams

Dance In The Dark – Lady GaGa

Guitar Flute and String – Moby

Catatonic – Hans Zimmer (Sherlock Holmes soundtrack)

Dancing In The Storm – Boom Crash Opera

Set Fire To The Rain – Adele

Bad Romance – Glee cast

Mr Brightside – The Killers

Use Somebody – Kings of Leon

Bad – U2

F**kin’ Perfect – P!nk

Take Me Back – Jon stevens

You Stole My Thunder – Mark Seymour

Gloradin – Lisa Gerrard

I Don’t Believe You – P!nk

Crossfire – Brandon Flowers

When The War Is Over – John Farnham

Better – Tom Baxter

Bound To You – Christina Aguilera

Total Eclipse of the Heart – Bonnie Tyler

Throw It All Away – Brandi Carlisle

You Don’t Own Me – The Blow Monkeys

City of Blinding Lights – U2

Impossible – Daniel Merriweather

Do You Mind – Robbie Williams

Man Next Door – Massive Attack

The Only Exception – Glee cast
