This is Kim Cormack and I’m pleased to be hosting for Virtual FantasyCon’s Blog Hop Hunt today is Aldrea Alien, author of the Unborn Trilogy.
Aldrea Alien grew up on a small farm out the back blocks of New Zealand in a little place known as Wainuiomata alongside a menagerie of animals, who are all convinced they're just as human as the next person (especially the cats). She spent a great deal of her childhood riding horses, whilst the rest of her time was consumed with reading every fantasy book she could get her hands on and, come her twelfth year, she discovered there was a book inside her.
Although she now lives in Upper Hutt (on yet another small farm with a less hectic, but still egotistical, group of animals), one thing she hasn't yet found is an off switch to give her an ounce of peace from the dozens of main characters who are plaguing her mind, a list that grows bigger every year. She writes in a range of genres with fantasy at the forefront and romance in every tale.

Family and blood.
After one thousand and one hundred years, these simple words mean everything to Herald. His life has been ruled by keeping his siblings safe, keeping them from becoming prey whilst feeding on the weaker. His failures have been many and measured by those he has lost. People like his twin brother.
There has always been another enemy.
Just who the enemy is comes into question when Herald meets the dangerous, angelic creature he is to guard. Wondering where his true loyalties lie is a dangerous thought? No matter whether he chooses family over the heart, it will mean death.
Only the right choice will ensure the life taken is not his.

Excerpt...
"Are you hungry? I'm hungry." He tore his gaze from the high ceiling to frown at his brother. They were the only 2 left of those their strigoi father had sired over the centuries. The rest had all succumbed to other families, pulled down in battles by the stronger clans. Fed upon and left to decay until they became naught but dust. More fuel for the stone.
His family did the same to others, draining the life from weaker clans. Feasting on their own kind like animals just to survive. Nothing down here lived long if it didn't fight for existence.
"Right now, I could go for a nice red-head with green eyes." His brother didn't face him, preferring to stare out at the people nearby, but even in his voice, the lopsided smile was unmistakable. "Or maybe a pretty blonde like one of those right there."
He scanned the mob of dark-haired people walking about in their close-knit, familial herds. Each step taken was wary. Each person knowing a wrong move could easily turn into the precursor of their demise. There wasn't much fighting to be had here. Not at the entrance to the Haven. Many of the older clans held to the unspoken truce. Sometimes, it was all that kept a family alive.
A group of fair-haired women appeared through a break in the crowd. As one, they swaggered past the other clans, their drawn swords mirroring the red light. "A Saxon?" Trust his brother to seek the dangerous route. "You can't even speak their language." He shook his head. "She'd be feeding on you in a heartbeat."
