José Chaves holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon and was a Fulbright scholar to Colombia in 1999, where he published a bilingual anthology of Latin American sudden fiction titled THE BOOK OF BREVITY. Four translations from this work have recently been published in SUDDEN FICTION LATINO: SHORT-SHORT STORIES FROM THE UNITED STATES AND LATIN AMERICA. His own creative nonfiction and poetry have been published in journals such as THE ATLANTA REVIEW, RATTLE, EXQUISITE CORPSE, X-CONNECT, and many others.
