Snickerdoodle Cookies | Recipe

Snickerdoodles are by far my favorite cookie. There is something homey and comforting about cinnamon and sugar. For me, these cookies are inherently New England. They hearken back to my childhood days spent roaming the grounds of the Mystic Seaport in my home state of Connecticut. I would sit—short legs swinging on edge of the wooden bench—eating my soft [...]

Slow Crafts of the Heart | My Kitchen Days

In my home, everyone in the household is expected to do a task to help keep things running and ensure the chores do not fall upon a single set of shoulders. Writing aside, my passion is cooking and baking; I love to do both and my family supports me in my endeavors by [...]

The Wake of Sandy

As many of you know I am based in southeastern Connecticut. My hometown area of Mystic and Stonington was hit very hard by Sandy. Situated at the meeting point of Long Island Sound and the Atlantic, our area experienced a storm surge upwards of 11ft. Most of the town took severe flood damage. We are currently without power and probably will remain so for the next week. Nonetheless, we are in one piece and the house is still standing, so we are feeling grateful.

Reflections on the Give and Take | A Journal Entry

(A recent journal entry…still in the works.) We enter this life with a responsibility to others. We have adopted the idea that our life is solely our own. Overlooking the possibility that a part of our life may indeed belong to humanity and that, in this, we have a responsibility to give something of ourselves. We should live guided by our [...]
