Dallas McClain is a busy man – far too busy to fall in love. He is a Texas Ranger, a volunteer firefighter and a man with a plan to own his own ranch someday. But for now he’s chasing criminals and putting out fires – everywhere but his own bed. Dallas loves women, what he doesn’t have time for is a relationship or a family. Until… he meets Haley.
Haley Richards is under attack. Shots have been fired through her window, animals have been poached off her land and someone is rustling her cattle. If she doesn’t get help, Haley will lose her home. The local Sheriff can’t seem to help, so he calls in a Texas Ranger to do the job.
The moment Dallas meets Haley, sparks fly. They can’t seem to get along for a minute, but the attraction between them is hard to deny. Abandoned by her husband, she is struggling to keep her home and family intact. She doesn’t trust men as far as she can throw them, but Dallas seems to be different. Despite his aggravating personality, she can tell he’s a man of honor. And when her little girl, Sadie, decides Dallas is going to be her new daddy… Well, let’s say all bets are off. A determined female, no matter if she is pint-sized, is hard to ignore.

March 25th, 2016

Picture  “I can’t believe you drank too much. This isn’t like you.” When he grunted and grumbled under his breath, she retorted, “Yea, I’m fussing a little. Sue me.”

“Just help me upstairs, boss.” His voice held that teasing note she’d heard so often years ago.

“Don’t you want me to fix you something to eat first?”

A groan was her answer to that question. “We’re alone.” He announced. The house was deserted. His parents and the twins, Trace and Trevor, were in Austin with Abby. All the rest of the boys were at school. Apparently Abby had insisted her injury be downplayed to such an extent that most of the family was going about their normal routine.

“Don’t worry your virtue is safe with me.” She did some teasing of her own. The second and fifth stair creaked like normal. Charlee didn’t need to be told where Justice’s room was located. She’d snuck up these stairs or shimmed up the drain pipe to his window more times than she could count while growing up. “Let’s get you into bed,” she winced, he was getting heavier by the second.

“Sounds good to me.” Justice murmured. “I’m beat.”

“You’ll feel better soon,” she assured him, checking the thermostat, making sure his room was warm enough for him. He obediently stood next to the big four poster bed, looking to her like a cross between a sexy teddy bear and an old west desperado. Justice always reminded her of Chris Pine in a cowboy hat.

“You smell good, like a woman.”

Charlee had to laugh. “You are drunk.” At his snort, she added. “At least something about me is womanly.” It sure wasn’t her shape. Charlee’s unfortunate chest was as flat as a board.

“There’s not a damn thing wrong with you.” His voice was low and raspy.

Charlee shivered. “Never mind. Let me get the covers turned back and I’ll help you get your boots off.” This wasn’t the first time she’d helped him to bed. Of course, the other times he’d been hurting with one of those damn headaches he was plagued with.

“I think I need help with the rest of my clothes.”

His whisper sounded a little suggestive and Charlee blushed from her nose to her toes. “I think you need a cold shower.” She made light of his comment. Charlee had seen Justice flirt many times, but she’d never been the recipient. She’d always been relegated to the role of best buddy.

“Will you take one with me?”

“A shower?” She choked back a laugh. Was he tormenting her on purpose? “Not a good idea.” Charlee fluffed the pillows and turned on the bedside lamp, anything to keep her eyes off the handsome hunk who was unbuttoning his shirt and eyeing her like she was a tasty treat. How many times had she dreamed of this moment? The only problem was – the Jose Cuervo talking, not Justice.

“Come here. I need to hold you.”

The teasing tone had left his voice completely. This sexy Justice was almost more than she could handle. “Hush. Let me help you. You’re making a mess.” She stepped close to him, her whole body quivering at the sight of his gorgeous chest, lightly furred, muscles rippling as he struggled with the shirt which was behind him, still fastened at the cuffs.

While she was so near and he was otherwise occupied, Charlee dared to do something she’d only dreamed about. She placed a small quick kiss over his heart and felt hers jump in her chest.

“That’s good. Now kiss me up here.”

Caught. She lifted her eyes and he was staring at her with unmistakable heat. “Sorry.”

“God, don’t be. I need you.” He tossed the shirt across the room and began tugging at his pants. “Damned buttons.”

“Justice, you don’t want me.” The words slipped from her lips unbidden even as her hands joined his, tugging to get his belt out of the loops.

“Yes, I do. I want you. I need you.” He bent his head and she felt his lips on her neck. “Feel.”

He took her hand and moved it below his waist – and he was right. She could feel him big and hard. For her? Not possible. Unable to rest, she shyly cupped him, marveling at the way he throbbed in her hand. “I’m not your type, you said so. Remember?” Each word tore a little bit of her pride away.

“You’re my friend. A guy isn’t supposed to lust after his friend. But I can’t help it.” His words were still a bit slurred, punctuated by kisses as he licked a path from her cheek to her collarbone. “Don’t think I’ve missed those hot little nipples pressing against your shirt, or that wild flush on your cheeks when we sit close. You want me, Parker.”

“We don’t always get what we want, Justice.” Charlee tried to muster up some fight, some strength to push away his hands. But she couldn’t. She had wanted him forever. By age fifteen, she’d been aware of Justice as a man and by the time she was eighteen, she’d burned for him.

“I do, I’m not afraid to reach out and take what I want when I see it.”

God, he was potent. “All I’ve ever wanted was for you to be happy,” she offered as she tilted her head to give him access. Frissons of excitement covered her skin.

“I want your soft touches, like how you used to caress my forehead when I was sick. Now, I want you to whimper for the pleasure I can give you.”

Right on cue, she moaned for him as he skated his hands up under her shirt. “Justice,” she gasped his name in prayer.

“Your skin is like toffee-colored silk and your hair drives me mad.” He ran his fingers through the long thick chocolate colored waterfall.

“It does?” Charlee was losing her mind. This was surreal. His hands were now working on her clothes, soon she would be naked in his arms.

“Yea, I love the taste of you. Sugar cookies. You’re sweet on my tongue.” Justice kissed her neck again, this time sucking a bit of soft flesh between his teeth. God, he was so excited, he was seeing stars. “Are you gonna let me love you?”

Did she have a choice? Her mind might be wary but her body was melting at his touch.

Justice slipped an arm around Charlee and lifted her to him, his other hand making quick work of the remainder of their clothes. Wrapping Charlee’s hair around his fist, he pulled her head back and claimed her lips with his own.

Their first kiss.

Thunderbird Hell Yeah! Equalizers

[image error] A Peek Inside-

Before he could answer or they could absorb the significance of their shared vision, the skies opened up above them and rain came pouring down. Kyle pulled Hannah’s hand over his arm and they raced back up the hill toward the house and stood on the front steps watching the rain wash down in sheets. A bolt of lightning split the sky and a thunderclap followed.

Kyle shook his head. “I suppose you’re going to blame me for that, aren’t you?”

“Why’d you have to go and ruin a perfectly good day?”

Her admission of having the Thunderbird dream had floored him before and now he had no doubt, she was the ‘one’. This was absolute proof as far as he was concerned, and the information had Kyle’s mind racing. The significance overwhelmed him. He felt like he was face to face with his destiny and Kyle was compelled to fall on one knee and propose. But it was too soon…so they’d play instead.

“Ruin a perfectly good day? We’ll see about that. I’ll have you know any day you spend with me is a good day.” Kyle said and lunged for her.

Hannah spun away and ran for the front door. She pulled it closed behind her, but Kyle yanked it open. “Where are you going, Newman?”

Hannah backed away from the door slowly, weighing her options. She didn’t know the house at all. She looked left.

Kyle kicked his shoes off and stalked her. “Don’t want to go in there.”

She looked right.

“That’d be an even worse decision.”

They were in the expansive ballroom where they’d danced the night before. Hannah could make a break for the kitchen, but then what? Kyle would almost certainly cut her off before she made it there to hide behind the massive island that dominated the room.

Kyle stopped and leaned against one of the big Greek style columns which framed the room. “Looks like you’re trapped.” He started to move slowly, circling the room, cutting off Hannah’s escape to the kitchen. “Kitchen’s not an option anymore. Unless you think you can get by me.”

“I have a couple times already.”

Kyle smile. God, she was adorable. He began to circle again. “Because I let you.” He was at the stairs now. “You could make a break for the washroom, but the handle’s broken. So you wouldn’t be safe.”

“You’re lying.”

He circled more. “I could be. But what if I’m not?”

Hannah looked toward the front door.

“Don’t want to go back out there, Newman. I made it rain, remember? I can make it rain more.”

“Then I’ll stay right where I am.”

Kyle approached slowly.

Hannah was mesmerized. Her heart was pounding. She should run.

“Last chance, Newman,” Kyle said when he was only a few feet from her.

So, this was what they called the thrill of the chase. Her whole body was revved up. Oh well, she’d just let him chase her until she caught him. Ha!

With a lilting giggle, Hannah broke to her left, the kitchen her only option. Kyle closed the gap with one big stride and pinched her rear.

Hannah jumped and yelped before changing her direction. She headed for the steps. The slick mud on the bottom of her boots caused a loss of traction and Kyle snatched her before she fell forward.

He spun her around and into his arms. “Look what I caught.”

Hannah pushed him away and ran for the stairs again. She stumbled on the first step, but gained her balance with the railing and dashed up the steps.

“I’m gonna get you,” Kyle said from behind her, making a grab for her ass.

He managed to get a handful, but Hannah scampered away. She was four steps from the landing when he appeared at her side and stuck his hand in front of her. She had nowhere to go. Kyle stepped close and backed her into the wall. He looked down at her, neither of them saying a word.

Hannah’s foot slipped nervously off the edge of the step and she regained her footing. The only sound in the house was Hannah’s breathing. She inhaled sharply, her heart beating a thousand miles a minute.

Kyle placed a hand on her arm. “We can’t have you wearing these wet clothes, can we?”

Hannah looked up at him. She gnawed on her bottom lip and shook her head ever so slightly.

“Boots,” Kyle said.

Hannah lifted her leg and he helped her out of them.

“Tights.”

Hannah shook her head like a petulant child.

Kyle pulled his sweater up over his head. “I’ll take them off of you if you don’t do it yourself.” The idea sent a charge of electricity to Hannah’s nipples. She shook her head no again.

Kyle reached both hands around her back. Hannah was glued to the wall, hands at her sides. He lifted her sweater up and pulled her tights down roughly, almost taking Hannah off her feet. He kissed her calf as she stepped out of her wet tights and kissed her bare thigh on the way up.

“Shirt,” Hannah muttered.

“Louder, Newman.”

She wanted to be forceful, but his presence had stolen her breath. “Shirt,” she muttered again.

“One more time?”

She was already on unsteady knees. “Take your shirt off.”

She wanted to rip it off of him herself, but much like her mouth, her arms didn’t seem to work. Kyle pulled his shirt up over his head.

It was soaked and clung to him as he went. Hannah stared at the ridges of his six-pack as he struggled. The desire to reach out and feel him tore at her. Her hand was halfway to feeling his rippling abs when Kyle finally freed himself from the wet shirt.

“Your turn.”

Hannah didn’t respond.

Kyle undid his belt and pulled it out of the loops. “Last chance.” He leaned into her ear and whispered, “Don’t make me take it off for you.”

A Character Interview with Titan from TEXAS WILDFIRE plus a conversation with author Sable Hunter!

Picture Marie Lavender:  Today we're bringing something different to Writing in the Modern Age in the form of a character interview.  These character interviews, now and in the future, should prove to be very enlightening for all of us.

Marie Lavender:
Hello, Titan.  Please have a seat.

Character Titan Sloan:  Hello, Marie. Thank you.  It's a pleasure to be here.

Marie:  We're going to start out with some simple questions, okay?

Titan:  All right.

Marie:  So, what is your occupation? Are you any good at it?  Do you lik e it?

Titan:   I pull double-duty. I own a small ranch west of Austin and I’m a volunteer firefighter. Am I any good at it?
Very few people get rich raising cattle and horses, but I love the land and working with the livestock. It’s a good life. As for the firefighting, I do the very best that I can. When you have the lives of your friends and neighbors in your hands, you have to step up and do what needs to be done.   Do I like it? I wouldn’t trade my life for anyone else’s. If I hadn’t been at the right place at the right time, I wouldn’t have been able to save the love of my life…Makenna.

Marie:  Wow, that's impressive! A rancher and a firefighter, hmm?
So, tell us...what is your family like?

Titan:    My family lives in Austin. They’re comfortable. I have a sister who is following in my dad’s footsteps, taking over some of his businesses. He’s an investor and owns everything from restaurants to dry cleaning stores. I love my parents and my sister, but I don’t choose to live their lifestyle. I much prefer working with my hands and being outdoors. I do appreciate that they approve of my wife. Makenna was nervous about meeting them, but she had no reason to be. I’d say they love her as much as I do, but that wouldn’t be true. I worship the ground she walks on.

Marie:  Glad to hear it! I love romance...;)
So, tell us. What did your childhood home look like?

Titan:   I was raised in the hills of West Austin near the Colorado River. My home was a three story mansion surrounded by manicured gardens. My folks live within spitting distance of celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, Dennis Quaid and the owner of Dell Computers. Of course, I stayed on my uncle’s ranch as much as my parents would let me. I just never fit in with the country club lifestyle. I’d rather be out riding a horse or fishing than playing tennis.

Marie:  I can respect that.
Do you have any hobbies? What do you enjoy doing?

Titan:  I have several hobbies. I make knives, and I’m proud to say that I made my Makenna one and she carries it with her. She even used it to save her life, and I’m glad she did. I can’t imagine my world without her.
Wine is also a passion of mine; I guess I inherited that trait from my parents. I’m lucky enough to live in the Texas Hill Country where there are dozens of vineyards. One of my friends owns one and I love to visit and watch the grapes being harvested. Other than those two things, my ranch and volunteer work with the fire department keeps me busy. My main priority is my new bride, however. I adore Makenna and spend every moment I can with her.

Marie: What is your greatest dream, Titan?

Titan:   I want to make my wife happy and have children with her someday. My dream is to have a large family, one I can dote on. I lay in the bed with my wife and imagine having a little girl that just looks like her.

Marie:   So sweet!  I have no doubt that you'll have the family you want. :)
Let's try another question.
What kind of person do you wish you could be? What is stopping you?

Titan:
“Hey, this is Makenna, Titan’s wife, and I’d like to answer this question if I may.”

(Titan blushes as he makes room for Makenna beside him.)

“Before we got together – and I don’t know if you know the story, but Titan saved me from an abusive relationship – he was awarded a plaque for heroic service. The plaque says, I AM MY BROTHER’S KEEPER and it was given to him for risking his life time and time again to save other. My point it, I don’t think he could be a better person.” Makenna kisses him. “I am lucky enough to be married to a wonderful man.”

(Titan kisses her.)
Titan:  Loving Makenna makes me to want to cherish everyday on this earth.

Marie:  Good to hear!    So, let's try something else.    Who was your first love?

Titan: I’m lucky enough to be married to my first love. I fell for her the moment I saw her, it was the proverbial love at first sight situation. (He frowns.) Unfortunately, later I discovered she was married to my fire chief. I put aside my feelings and tried to be a good friend to them as a couple. I never let on – not until I found out the truth of their relationship – that was when I moved heaven and earth to rescue her and make her mine.

Marie: All right.
So, tell us. What's the most terrible thing that ever happened to you?

Titan: The most terrible thing that ever happened to me was when I thought Makenna had been killed in a fire. I nearly went crazy trying to get to her until I discovered she’d escaped. I dealt with her maniac of a husband and married her as soon as she was free.

Marie:  Wow, I bet. That's scary!
(Pauses.)
Let's try something else, shall we?
What was your dream growing up? Did you achieve that dream? If so, in what ways was it not what you expected? If you never achieved that dream, why not?

Titan: My dream wasn’t to be an Executive or a businessman. My dream was to be a cowboy or a fireman, and I’m lucky enough to have achieved both. In many ways, it’s better. The ranching is hard work, but it’s rewarding. As far as the firefighting goes, I always knew I’d enjoy saving people, but it’s when you can’t – that hurts far more than I ever expected.

Marie:  So, who is your role model, Titan?

Titan: My role model is Fire Chief Logan Grey. I am lucky enough to be fire chief of Hays County now, but he is still the one I look to. His unit is located in a neighboring town, and that man epitomizes the ideal of a fireman dedicating his life to others. The only thing he loves more is Jenna. His crew have a habit of shouting ‘CHAOS’ when he walks into a room, which mean the Chief Has Arrived On Scene. I aspire to be as good of a leader as he is; maybe I will someday.

Marie:
(Smiles.)
I'm sure you will. Let's try another question.
Is there someone you pretend to like but really dislike?

Titan:
(Laughs.)
Well, I certainly had to pretend to like Makenna’s first husband. Working under him was difficult. And when I found out what a psycho he was, I enjoyed taking him down.

Marie:  Okay.
What is your deepest desire?

Titan: My deepest desire is to spend my life loving my wife, raising a family and making my community a great and safe place to live.

Marie:  How honorable!
So, what is your greatest fear, Titan?

Titan: My greatest fear is letting my family down. I want my wife to feel cherished every day of her life. Keeping her safe and happy is my goal.

Marie: Well, I'm glad you feel that way! :)
Well, it looks like we're running out of time, Titan. Thank you for visiting us today.

It was so interesting getting to know you.  (Waves at her guest as he heads off the stage.) Now, let's shift over and get the author's perspective.  We have Sable Hunter on the stage today!  Hi, Sable!

Picture
Author Sable Hunter:  Hi, Marie! It's so nice to be here!

Marie:  (Smiles.) Welcome to Writing in the Modern Age!
So, we just got to talk a male character from your story...Titan.  Quite an interesting character. Can you tell us a little about him?

Sable:    Titan is a fantasy, a perfect man. He’s loosely based on someone real in my life, my cousin’s late husband. He gave his life to save others. While he didn’t die in a fire, he contracted pancreatic cancer at the age of 33 from the fumes he’d breathed in while fighting fires. He was awarded the same plaque that Titan received. Of course, Titan is a combination of everything I admire in a man – strong, protective, and adores his woman.

Marie:  Sorry to hear about your cousin's husband. But, it's certainly admirable that you decided to honor him in manner.
Let's try a different question.
What are your character's greatest strengths?

Sable:  Titan’s greatest strength is his ability to put others first. He is honorable, trustworthy - - and also not to be missed – sexy as hell!

Marie:  A winning combination! ;)
So, what are his greatest weaknesses?

Sable:  I'll let Makenna answer this one...

Makenna:  “Although Titan is very nearly perfect, he refuses to pick up his socks.”

Marie:   (Laughs.)
What are some of his favorite foods?

Sable:   Titan is all man. He loves steak and potatoes, Texas BBQ and cheese. He loves to pair these things with his favorite wines.

Marie: (Chuckles.)
So, what's a positive quality that your character is unaware that he has?

Sable:  Titan doesn’t realize that he’s as good looking as he is. The man is just yummy. He is also completely unaware of how chivalrous he is. I think it’s his size. He’s so big, that he sees women as fragile creatures to be protected – and I like that.

Marie:  Will readers like or dislike this character, and why?

Sable:   Readers have fallen in love with Titan. He’s a cowboy, a fireman, handsome and nice – what’s not to like?

Marie:   (Smiles.)
Good point.
Well, now  that we have a real taste of Titan Sloan, we have a few questions for you as well as the author.
What first gave you the idea for Texas Wildfire

Sable:   I am a member of the Cowboy 12-pack and the requirement for the book was that they be a firefighter as well as a cowboy. I wanted to honor the memory of my cousin, Jerry, and this was a perfect way to do so. I also wanted to draw attention to women in abusive situations, those who have to live in fear for their lives like Makenna.

Marie: All right.
So, what is your writing style like, Sable?  Are you a pantster or a plotter ?

Sable:   I write in the recliner with a dog by my side. I write on a laptop with the TV on. I am a little of both. I like to know where the book is going, but I have no problem letting the story evolve as I get to know the characters.

Marie: That makes sense
So...I’m throwing this one in for our aspiring writers.  Did you come across any specific challenges in writing Texas Wildfire  or getting it published?  What would you do differently the next time?

Sable:   When my deadlines involve other people, I am more pressured to get it finished - - but, I seem to work better under pressure. What would I do differently the next time? Ha! Nothing. I have six books already committed for next year. Those that I am doing with others and those I am doing alone are about 12 books due in 12 months – so that’s how I roll.

Marie:  Impressive!
Well, it was such a pleasure having you here on Writing in the Modern Age, Sable. We hope you can come back sometime!  :)

Sable:   Thank you for having me here.

Marie:  Of course!
Readers, here is the blurb for  Texas Wildfire.

Picture ‘I Am My Brother’s Keeper’ are the words engraved on the plaque awarded to volunteer firefighter/rancher Titan Sloan. Daily he risks his life to save and protect friends and neighbors. When he finds out the person he loves the most is the one he’s failed to protect, Titan is fit to be tied. Titan Sloan is a hero, but he’s no angel. For years he’s secretly been in love with his Captain’s wife. When he finds out their marriage is a sham and Makenna is being abused, all hell breaks loose. A Texas Wildfire is the backdrop for a story so hot and a love so intense, no one will come through it unscathed.

**Content Warning: This book contains adult language and sexual situations. It is intended for adults 18+ ONLY**

Here is an excerpt from the book.

“You can’t get any more beautiful than you are, Makenna,” Titan called from the other side of the door.
She smiled. That man always seemed to say the right thing. Taking a deep breath, she grabbed the biggest towel she could find, wrapped it around herself and went to meet Titan.
When he saw her coming, he hid a smile. If she thought that terry-cloth towel was going to deter him, she was barking up the wrong tree.
“I was beginning to think you’d gotten lost,” he muttered, eyeing her appreciatively.
“That would be hard in a two room house, Cowboy.” She held on to the ends of the towels like they were a life preserver and she was being tossed in a stormy sea. “I was just having second thoughts about this swimsuit.”
“I’ve been having second thoughts about it too…and thirds…and fourths.” He pushed his hat back on his head and crossed his big arms over that chest she thought should be a national monument.
“I know you’ve seen me in it before, but I’d had several margaritas at the time. I was basking in a false sense of fashion security.” Even as she grumbled, she was moving closer to him. “Just don’t look at me too close. This belongs to Allie and it’s about two sizes too small.”
“Well, if it’s bothering you, when we get to the spring, you can take it off.”
Titan’s matter-of-fact solution made Makenna laugh. “I can’t win with you, can I?”
Putting an arm around her waist, he guided her toward the door. “Au contraire, my dear. You’ll win with me every damn time.”
For some reason, she was beginning to believe him.
A ten minute walk took them from the front porch of the cabin to the very edge of one of the foothills. “These limestone hills are riddled with caves and springs,” Titan remarked as they came upon the first outcroppings of rocks.
“Yea, I’ve seen some of them,” Makenna answered. “There’s a small one near the house where a stream of water flows from a crack in the rocks about nine months out of twelve. I call it the ‘squirrel shower’. I’ve always envisioned walking up one day and seeing a squirrel standing on his back legs, washing under his arms with a little loofah.”
Titan threw back his head and laughed. “I love being with you.” He held her hand as they traversed some rough ground. “Careful. Not too much farther.”
Makenna didn’t know what she’d been expecting, but this wasn’t it. This was no pond in the pasture. Titan led her into the mouth of a small cave. Her eyes widened as she saw the opening was much smaller than the cavern they entered. “It’s breathtaking,” she whispered.
“This is my own private paradise.” He beamed. “Only a handful of people know about this place. My uncle kept the location of this spring pretty much to himself and I’ve followed suit.”
Her eyes mapped the magical place. Enough light shone through the opening so she could see a deep pool of crystal clear water. Bubbles decorated the top as water flowed into the cave from an underground aquifer. “I love it,” she breathed reverently. “It makes me think of those tropical grottos I’ve seen in movies.”
“This pool feeds the Blanco River through an underground stream. Cave divers have tried to follow the path, but it’s too narrow.”
Makenna was listening, but mostly she was watching. As he’d promised, Titan hadn’t brought clothes to change into. Instead, he began to strip. “Is the water warm?” she asked, trying not to stare. She found a large flat rock to sit on. No way was she getting in the water first.
“It’s not a hot spring by any means, but the water is comfortable.” His signature white cowboy shirt went first, revealing a chest which rose powerfully from lean hips. She let her gaze slide over massive shoulders, then down over the bulge of his biceps. If she didn’t know how gentle he could be, Titan’s size would’ve made her nervous. Damien had always used his strength against her, but Titan would use his to defend her.

TEXAS STAND-OFF

A stand-off is defined as a heated situation between two equally matched opponents – which perfectly describes the sizzling sexual tension between former SEAL Deacon Jones and the woman his boss asks him to evaluate. Deacon is not happy with the situation, but he’s given his word to his friend, Grey Holden, and he’ll do it – even if it kills him.
She shows up at his reclusive home on the Pedernales River, deep in theheart of the Texas Hill Country, eager to prove she has what it takes to be part of the Omega Team. Having lost a female member of his unit while in Afghanistan, Deacon holds himself accountable and has no wish to be responsible for sending another woman into harms’ way. But she’s good… he can’t deny it – she may even be better than he is. Everything about her turns him on – from her hot sexy body to her super-spy skills. But Deacon doesn’t intend to get involved. He’s given up on women since his wife left him after he lost a leg to an IED.
Natasha Levin has another take on the situation. She’s never met anyone like Deacon Jones and she wants to learn everything he can teach her – from the firing range to the bedroom. Both have scars they try to hide, he was injured serving his country and she was tortured by her father’s enemies after the former Russian general defected to America. What happens when an irresistible force goes head to head with an immovable object? They’ll find out when they are called upon to work together to save a child being held hostage in a rancher’s dispute with the federal government over land rights. One thing for certain – there will be fireworks…and lots and lots of sex.

SABLE HUNTER UNDER THEINFLUENCE

Picture Presently, I’m working on KIT AND ROGUE, the sequel to my Rogue – Sons of Dusty Walker book released earlier this year. This is only my second attempt at writing a book about a couple AFTER I’ve given them the ‘happy ever after’ that they deserve. A book has to have conflict, so now I have to go into the well-ordered little world I created and mess things up. How in the heck am I supposed to do that? Well, it’s not easy, I’ll tell you that much – but I’m working on it. A week from today, Saturday the 2nd of October – Randi, Desiree, Jodi and I will have a party announcing the preorder for them, do some cover reveals and give away a butt load of prizes. Traditional stuff. And you all know that I had surgery this week which kicked my butt and my mind has been mush, but I have been working steadily.

Clair's Clan Welcomes Sable Hunter

[image error] MY interview with Clair

1. Will you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Rebecca Schaefer. Sable Hunter is my penname. I live in Austin, TX. I have two dachshunds and a very small family. My lifestyle is reclusive, I am a very private person. I write romance of all varieties, mostly cowboy with suspense elements and lots of hot to-die-for sex. I’ve written almost 50 books in seven series, my most popular is the Hell Yeah! I am fortunate enough to be a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. My hobbies are ghost hunting and traveling. I travel to research my books.

2. Why did you start to write?

I’ve always enjoyed storytelling. I’ve done it orally in several capacities as a public speaker. I also like a particular kind of book – the strong alpha male brought to his knees by a woman who doesn’t think she’s perfect, but he thinks she’s perfect for him. I enjoy weaving stories about people with challenges. So, when I couldn’t find a book I wanted to read, I would write my own.

Have you always longed to write a book or was there a trigger? Writing was something I always dreamed of doing, but I was too practical – an accountant of all things. What triggered me was trying to entice a younger member of my family to write. I knew that was where his talent lay, so I challenged him to get a book published. Well, it didn’t work for him, but it did for me– the one I wrote began to sell – – and the rest, as they say – is history.

3. What sort of books do you write? Fully plotted contemporary romance with suspenseful elements, and sometimes a touch of the paranormal. Most of my books are cowboy, some are Cajun and a few are other things like firemen or military. But all have the distinction of having an alpha male with a heart of gold. Plus I add lots of delicious sex. But I do pride myself in the fact that you can remove the sex and still have a full, complete and entertaining story. The sex moves the plot, it isn’t gratuitous. I have a friend who says they come to my books for the sex and they stay for the story. That’s a compliment.

Why did you choose that particular genre? Because it’s what I like to read and there is great value in a book that entertains, makes you feel good about yourself and teaches you something at the same time. I try to work those elements in. I research places, events, history and folklore to add extra dimension to my stories.

4. How autobiographical are your stories? Well, I wouldn’t say autobiographical, unless you count the insecurities of the heroines – they are all mine. But…there are family stories, funny things, paranormal happenings, and inside jokes in my books. If you do something around me that’s noteworthy, it makes it into a book. If you do something crazy – it makes it into a book. If I get mad at you, I make you a villain and kill you off. If I have a crush, you become the hero. THIS STUFF HAS TO COME FROM SOMEWHERE!

5. Have you a favourite setting for your stories? Yes, Central Texas and South Louisiana. There is nowhere more beautiful than the Texas Hill Country. It’s cowboy country, but it’s also hip and ritzy and artistic. I love it here. South Louisiana is mysterious, romantic and a place where the supernatural is considered normal. I have the best of both worlds.

Why?

I write what I know, they are my home stomping grounds. One of the greatest compliments I receive is when I get letters saying that a person from another part of the US or the world is coming to Texas and Louisiana to see the places that I wrote about.

6. Do you ever fall for your characters? All the time. If I don’t fall for them, how can I expect anyone else to? I have a type. Most women do. So, all of my male characters have similar features and personalities. I fantasize about them. I dream about them. I write series so I can revisit them – I don’t want to let them go, so I don’t.

7. Do your characters ever surprise you? Of course they do. I create them, but they have a certain element of free will. I remember when I was writing MY ALIYAH about these hard-headed, tough as nails Texas Ranger – alpha as they come. He fell for this Mossad Agent that had been hired to protect him and they almost killed one another at the beginning. Then, when I wasn’t looking – I caught that rascal sneaking in with a bunch of wild flowers behind his back. Well…I let him do it and it worked – she let him into her bed. Ha!

8. How do you get yourself in the mood for writing? HA! I get hungry. My writing is how I live, that’s incentive enough. But…. I turn on the TV, I have to have noise but I hate for music to be playing, it annoys the heck out of me. I’d rather have the cooking channel or QVC or the blooming news than music. I get a cup of coffee or a diet coke and put it on the table beside me. I get comfortable – a sundress, usually – no shoes! And I get a dog in the chair with me and I’M GOOD TO GO!

9. What is the strangest place you have written in?

I write my books and run my little empire from the recliner, which is strange enough. But I tend to write wherever I am. I don’t compose stories in a notebook, I’m too lazy. But I do write down ideas, even dialogue when in a restaurant or in the car – I’ve even done it IN CHURCH! Which when you write what I do, is probably a SIN! At home, I’ve tried the ‘dragon’ where you talk instead of type, and that worked out well until I discovered the dogs were in the background and they were picking up their voices also – so it went something like this: He pulled her flush against him, she could feel his massive BARK BARK erection pressed up against her hungry core. She rubbed again him, pressing her BARK BARK hungry nipples BARK BARK against his hard BARK BARK chest. – – – didn’t work.

10. Have you ever experienced ‘writer’s block’ and how did you cope with it?

I refuse to acknowledge it. I call it ‘getting stuck’. And when I get stuck on one book, I go to another one until the jam in my imagination loosens and then I continue on.

11. Describe your perfect first date.

I never had a perfect first date unless I fantasized it and wrote about it. So, that’s what I’ll do here. I am old fashioned. I like the idea of meeting someone and them asking for my phone number. I want him to call and talk awhile, then ask me out for coffee. Taking it slow keeps the passion on simmer. After we go through the phone call and coffee and the chemistry is still there, I would like to be asked out for dinner. I live on the river and a dinner cruise is very romantic. Afterward, a walk by the river and if he’s very good….I might ask him back to my house for a ‘night-cap’ – which would include no sex, but I might make out on the couch. Ha!

12. If you could live anywhere in the world where would you choose and why?

I live in Austin, right on the Colorado River within spitting distance of Matthew McConaughey, I am where I want to be. My books are set here, my family lives here. I have 6th Street, Whole Foods, Lake Travis, Texas wine country and all the BBQ I can eat.

Quickies….

1.      Chocolate or ice-cream? Chocolate ice cream. Actually, I’m on a no-sugar diet, but I do buy low carb cheesecake.

2.      Favourite tipple. I’m sorry, I don’t have a clue as to what a tipple is. I’ll have to look it up. AH! An alcoholic drink! Maybe they should call it a TIPSY instead of a TIPPLE. That would make more sense to me…but to answer the question – A FREAKIN’ MARGARITA!

3.      Seaside or forest? I lived most of my life in Deep East Texas in the piney woods on a swamp BUT we were only two hours north of Galveston….so I shall say both.

4.      Rain or sun? Rain, every time. I don’t like bright sunshine, it hurts my eyes. Part vampire.

5.      Christmas or birthday? HALLOWEEN! Christmas is okay, my birthday is a non-event.

6.      Elegant or comfortable clothes? Comfortable clothes. Dresses, usually. Never socks and most of the time…no underwear!

7.      TV or cinema? TV – I like to binge watch TV shows like Scandal, Suits, Newsroom, Proof. If I go to the movies, it’s to see a scary show like Insidious or something like that, so I mostly go around Halloween – which is my favorite holiday!

8.      Laptop or notebook for writing? Laptop. Who wants to do things twice? If you write it in a notebook, you have to transcribe.

9.      Nail colour? Natural or very dark.

10.  Dom, sub or switch? I am a submissive in bed, a dom everywhere else.

11.   Bondage or spanking? Hmmmmm – – spank me, I like to touch

12.  Leather or lace? In Texas, they go together. Lace dresses, leather cowboy boots and a fringed leather jacket.

***Blurb***

A loner by choice and a renegade by nature.
Rogue is living up to his name. He’s lived life on his own terms, doing everything from team-roping in college, Texas Hold ‘em champion to founding his own company, Lone Wolf Oil.
Everything he’s accomplished has been in spite of Dusty Walker, a man who sired four sons by four women – none of them his wife. Rogue might be following in his father’s footsteps, but he is nothing like his father.
And he never will be if he can help it.
When he flies to Kansas for the reading of Dusty’s will, three brothers and a quarter interest in a half-billion dollar business aren’t all he finds…Rogue feels like he’s been hit by a tornado after he walks into a room and finds a woman in his bed. Not just any woman, either…
The last time he saw Kit Ross, she was racing off in her truck leaving him naked and hard by the side of the road. Of course, he deserved it; he’d hurt her. To say she wasn’t happy to see him was an understatement. And when he wins her ranch with a good poker hand, the game is on.
It’s not just poker that’s being played. They can’t keep their hands off one another. Rogue doesn’t know if he has room in his life for family and love. He doesn’t know if he can be trusted with people’s hearts and happiness. What if he’s more like Dusty Walker than he ever knew?
The Sons of Dusty Walker. Four brothers – one tainted legacy and a wild, wild ride.

**Excerpt***

They laughed and rode on. Rogue asked intelligent questions. He wanted to know what services and guides they provided and what White-Wing charged. “Do you process the deer for the guests?”
“Yes and there’s a cook provided for their overnight camping trips, if they choose to rough it rather than returning to the cabins.” To Kit’s surprise, he kept making notes on his phone. And when they rode across the fields to get nearer to where the pheasant nested, he took photos.
“We need to get a professional photographer out here. I think we need to make up some brochures and buy some advertising in Garden and Gun, maybe Southern Living or Texas Monthly.” He named some well-known periodicals. When Kit looked skeptical, he eased her mind. “This is something else I’ll take care of. Investments like these are what’s going to make the difference between a full house and vacancies.”
Kit knew he was right. “I guess I don’t have the best head for business.”
“Nonsense.” Rogue shook his head as he looked around. “Your vision was spot on. All we need to do is let people know about it. Next we’ll work on the website and some social media.” When he saw her amazed look, he winked. “I don’t know how to do this stuff. But when I got Lone Wolf off the ground, there was this young guy back in Austin who established an online platform for me. I’m sure the same type rules will apply.”
For the first time in a long time, the knot in Kit’s insides seemed to loosen. “I’m not sure how I can ever thank you. All of this is so unexpected. You didn’t have to do any of it, you didn’t owe me anything.”
Reaching over, he took her horse’s reins and tugged the mare closer. When he had her near, he leaned over and kissed her. “I never do anything I don’t want to. And I want to do this.” He captured her lips again and kissed her until the horse danced away, forcing their mouths apart.
Kit didn’t say anything as they turned to ride toward the lake. Rogue took the lead on the trail and she hung back, the fingers of one hand covering her lips where he’d kissed her.
For the next hour, she showed him the docks and fish cleaning stations, the trail that led around the lake for horseback riding and the area far away from the livestock that had been designed for skeet and target shooting. Finally, they ended up at a shady area near the lake. Dismounting, she raised her arms over her head and stretched. The hem of her shirt rose where he could see a strip of tanned, smooth skin. As she flexed, her breasts were thrust out and Rogue felt his cock respond. This erection wasn’t due to any oil beneath the ground, it was due to the sexy woman at his side
“Well, what do you think?” she finally asked.
“About what?” He teased, knowing full well what she meant.
Giving him a smirk, she expounded. “What do you think about the ranch, partner? Are you still willing to make the investment?”
“I am. I’ll get Zane on the papers as soon as we get back to the lodge.”
“Are you ready for a picnic?” She took the basket from behind her saddle.
“I’m hungry all right.” As she spread out a blanket and sat down the wicker container, Rogue untied a length of rope from his saddle.
“Are you coming?” Kit asked as she bent over.
“Soon,” Rogue whispered as he twirled the rope over his head and let it go, smiling as it gently settled over her shoulders. Before she knew it, he tightened the rope. “Gotcha.”
“Rogue!” Kit squealed as he took her by surprise. “What are you doing?”
“Flirting with you, is it working?” he asked as he threw one leg over the horse, stepping down, never letting go of the rope.
“Maybe.” She gave him a sly little smile. “You’ve caught me, now what are you going to do with me?”
Going to her, Rogue walked up behind her, wrapped her in his arms and pulled her back flush to his front. Pressing his cheek to hers, he answered, “That depends on how much privacy we have out here.”
Kit smiled, all of her female parts perking up at the possibilities. “Almost total. No one has any reason to come anywhere close today.”
Sliding his hand to her neck, he tilted her head back, brushing his thumb over her lower lips. “Good, because you’re impossible to resist.”
Kit’s stomach bottomed out. She looked up at him, drowning in his eyes. Her heart was pounding. “Rogue…” she whispered, shocked at herself at what she wanted him to do. She wasn’t certain if he truly cared for her or if he was still, in his own way, trying to make up for past mistakes. Did it really matter?
“Kiss me, Kit,” he whispered. Collaring her throat, Rogue angled her head and began to devour her mouth. Taking command of the kiss, he ravished her with lips and tongue. His chest eclipsed her back, she felt small and helpless, at his mercy. Tremors of excitement shook her to the core as he crushed her mouth with his and left her with no question as to who was in charge of her pleasure.
Knowing he didn’t need the rope to keep her in his arms, he gently removed it, turning her in his embrace. She tasted like sunshine, spring and desire. He rubbed his face on her skin, knowing he’d leave a mark – and liking it. “Lie with me,” he instructed, guiding Kit to her back on the blanket. Taking her wrists, Rogue pulled them over her head, holding them securely in the grip of one hand.
“I love kissing you,” she murmured just before he delved deep, taking complete possession of her mouth, laving and seducing her with his tongue. His other hand wasn’t idle, he palmed her breast, flicked her nipple, then moved to grasp her hip, holding her still.
Beneath him Kit writhed, bucking upward, wishing she could get closer. Her head spun and her heart took flight. The only thing tethering her to the earth was Rogue, so she clung to him, wrapping her arms and legs around him, rubbing against his thick cock. He seemed to enjoy it, Rogue rode against her, humping the vee between her legs, causing her sex to vibrate with electric arousal.
“Open up,” he moaned and she spread her legs wider, giving him more access. The noises of his appreciation made her shiver. Rogue knew how to please a woman, and Kit was grateful the woman was her. With a whimper she surrendered, tangling her tongue with his, arching against him and rubbing her breasts back and forth against the hard muscles of his chest, scrubbing and gyrating on the hard cock nudging between her legs.
“I need your hands on me,” Kit begged.
Rogue raised his head, taking in air in harsh gasps. “I have to be careful of you, I have to protect you,” he whispered, his eyes searching her face before he slanted his mouth over hers for another consuming kiss.

****BIO****

Sable Hunter writes romance, some of it quite spicy. She writes what she likes to read and enjoys putting her fantasies on paper. Her stories are emotional reads where the heroine is faced with challenges, like one of her favorite songs – she’s holding out for a hero – and boy, can she deliver a hero. Her aim is to write a story that will make you laugh, cry and sweat. If she can wring those emotions out of a reader, then she has done her job.
She combines the cultures of her two favorite states into many of her stories – from the mysterious bayous of Louisiana where the Spanish moss hangs thickly over the dark waters to the rolling hill country of central Texas. She is passionate about animals and has been known to charm creatures from a one ton bull to a family of raccoons. For fun, Sable has been known to haunt cemeteries and battlefields armed with night-vision cameras and digital recorders hunting proof that love survives beyond the grave.
Join her in her world of magic, alpha heroes, sexy cowboys and hot, steamy, to-die-for sex. Step into the shoes of her heroines and escape to places where dreams can come true and orgasms only come in multiples
