My Interview with Author Joshilyn Jackson
New York Times bestselling novelist Joshilyn Jackson has written six books, reaping praise and awards for them. In her latest novel, Someone Else’s Love Story, young single mom, Shandi Pierce, and her 3-year-old son, Natty, are leaving their small Georgia hometown for her dad’s condo in Atlanta so she’ll be closer to college. Stopping at a convenience store on the way, they find themselves held at gunpoint during a robbery. The terrifying incident jolts Shandi out of her denial about her miracle son’s origins, and when her rescuer, William, a geneticist with Asperger’s, offers a way to find out what really happened the night her son was conceived, Shandi has to face the past to find her own love story.
Someone Else’s Love Story is one of the best books I’ve read this year, and I had the privilege of talking with the author recently. Read Joshilyn’s funny and insightful responses to my questions here.

Two for Tuesday — Made from Scratch
2 Cookbooks Full of Homemade Deliciousness
The Homemade Pantry: 101 Foods You Can Stop Buying & Start Making by Alana Chernila
Alana Chernila inspires you to step inside your kitchen, take a look around, and change the way you relate to food. The Homemade Pantry was born of a tight budget, Alana’s love for sharing recipes with her farmer’s market customers, and a desire to enjoy a happy cooking and eating life with her young family. On a mission to kick their packaged-food habit, she learned that with a little determination, anything she could buy at the store could be made in her kitchen, and her homemade versions were more satisfying, easier to make than she expected, and tastier.
Make the Bread, Buy the Butter: What You Should and Shouldn’t Make from Scratch by Jennifer Reese
Does becoming part of the home cooking movement mean cooking everything from scratch? According to Jennifer Reese, known as The Tipsy Baker to her online foodie following, there are plenty of products that you should buy at the store. Make your own bread, for instance, but buy the butter–making butter takes too long and doesn’t taste better. Jennifer Reese’s popular cost-benefit experiments became the most emailed story on Slate for a week, and this book brings her conscientious, frugal-chic approach to 120 food staples in a narrative with recipes that explore the homemade life.
