Guest Post: Dianne Hartsock

One of the cool things about running a blog is the opportunity to meet some great people. You might remember a few weeks ago, Tristram LaRoche visited. Well, he brought with him a crowd of friends and fans. :) Dianne Hartsock happened to be one of them. Today she’s here to share with us. Whether you’re a reader or a writer, I think you’ll find her guest post Totally Awesome Fabulous!

M/M Erotic Romance- A Taste of my Delicious Men

Two years ago I hadn’t given erotic romance a thought. Well, that’s not entirely true. But whenever I read a romance that began to get too intimate, I felt uncomfortable and squeamish and would put the book down.

That’s before I discovered the decadence of male love. It began with ‘The Book of Joe’ by Jonathan Tropper and ‘Lost Souls’ by Poppy Z. Brite. The sensual play of words and the twining of male bodies had my heart pounding. Here was something I’d never read before, and I loved it! I had to have more, not only to read, but also to write.

I blame my sometimes naughty imagination for what happened next. I took a trip to Glacier National Park with my husband. Beautifully romantic trip. But the long drive through the Idaho desert was long and boring, forcing my mind to entertain itself.

The air conditioner wasn’t able to keep up with the close to 100 degree weather outside. Not another living soul on the road. Hot, dry, burnt landscape around us. Scrubby brush and stones baking in the sun. Heat waves rippling across the road. Humid, sultry air in the car lulling me towards sleep…

I’d recently written a short ghost story and I began to wonder what my two men had done when they were alive. How had they met? Who would they be in the new story taking shape in my mind? And of course they’d have to fall in love! Otherwise, what was the point?

Thus began my plunge into erotic romance: Shelton in Love, Shelton’s Promise, Shelton’s Choice, and soon to be released, Shelton’s Homecoming.

http://www.breathlesspress.com/category/author/dianne-hartsock

Nevil came to me first. Handsome, sexy, witty. Do you know the song ‘Last of the Famous International Playboys’ by Morrissey? That’s my Nevil.

Nevil straightened and Shelton looked up helplessly at him, beautiful in shorts, the tank top clinging to his chest. His black hair was damp on his forehead, a trickle of sweat running alongside one gorgeous turquoise eye. Every nerve in Shelton’s body strained towards him, wanting that strong, vibrant body against his own, that delicious mouth and tongue fencing with his.

-Shelton in Love

And who would be special enough to win his heart? Someone shy and beautiful, unsure yet alluring in his own way. Definitely a temptation. Lovely Shelton.

Nevil whistled at one in particular, where Shelton had glanced at the camera through lowered lids, a secret smile playing on his lips. The overhead light brought out the highlights in his chestnut hair and lightened his hazel eyes, complimenting the warm colors of his ensemble for an overall attractiveness.

You’ll need to stockpile this coat, Tera.” Nevil observed, his eyes never leaving Shelton’s. “Every man who sees that picture is going to want one for his own.” His gaze was intense and Shelton colored at the innuendo.

-Shelton in Love

My next erotic romance is ‘Nathaniel’, an m/m fantasy. Nathaniel is a lovely young man, accused of being a witch, with only Taden to stand by his side. http://amzn.to/A9IyRq

Taden glanced at the burden in his arms and smiled, bemused by his beauty. Moonlight caught in his hair, creating a golden fan against a white cheek. Taden moved the reins to his left hand and tucked the silken strands behind a small ear. He noted the bruises under his eyes.

The young man moved against him, seeking warmth. Taden drew his cloak tighter over him, instantly, intensely aware of him. The stranger’s body was an exciting weight against his chest, recalling nights of passion with others, far in the past, none of which had been as beautiful as this man in his arms.

-Nathaniel

Taden is Nathaniel’s hero, giving up everything to be with the man he loves.

He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling out of his depth with Nathaniel. He’d never felt so drawn to anyone before. Maybe the young man had bewitched him. He certainly wasn’t acting rationally. And it frightened him that he didn’t care. Not so long as Nathaniel needed him.

Taden ran a hand through his dark hair in frustration, then took a moment to braid the long strands. The forest held plenty of dry branches, and he soon had a small fire going in a ring of stones.

-Nathaniel

I have several other m/m erotic romances in the works, complete with their own luscious men. So what do my stories have in common, besides lovely men loving each other? I try to make my characters very real, having strengths and weaknesses, wants and desires and needs. Empathetic or selfish. I want them to be people you’d invite into your home, be friends with, and hopefully have a relationship with through the pages of my books.

Thank you so much, Reena, for inviting me on you wonderful site today. You can always find me here:

Talisman of El Blog Tour

If you’ve been following the Talisman of El blog tour, welcome and I hope you’ve been enjoying yourself. :) If the Talisman of El is new to you, also welcome, I’m happy to introduce you to a new author–Alecia Stone! Today she’s here to do an interview with us, so here’s your chance to learn a bit about her and her works.

Reena Jacobs: I read the blurb. I cruised your blog. I watched the trailer. Wow! There’s so much happening in Talisman of El, I want to start everywhere. :) Please tell the readers a little about your book first, cause I’m anxious to ask some questions.

Alecia Stone: First, I’d like to thank Reena for having me today. My debut novel, Talisman Of El, is a story about 14-year-old Charlie Blake who discovers a shocking truth about himself and the world he lives in, which turns his life upside down – literally. Charlie has never quite been able to fit in anywhere, but when he moves to a new town, he encounters a world he knew nothing about but is so much a part of. Talisman Of El is a story about acceptance, identity, and the battle of good vs. evil.

RJ: Without giving too much away, will you give us some insight into the idea of one planet, two worlds?

AS: Well, I’ve always been fascinated with the supernatural world, so anything strange that occurred which couldn’t be explained, I’d put it down to the world of the unseen. From the moment I realised Charlie wasn’t your average kid, I knew there would have to be an explanation for what was happening to him and why – an explanation that was beyond the ordinary. For some unknown reason, I started thinking about people who had vanished without a trace, like Amelia Earhart, for instance. Then I came across this article about a farmer who vanished into thin air in front of his two kids. So, I thought to myself, they had to have disappeared to somewhere. And there you have it. One planet, two worlds.

RJ: Oh! I like that. Your bio talks about your experience in film and television. Did you have any involvement in putting together the trailer?

AS: Yes, I had about fifty percent involvement in putting the trailer together. I have a degree in Film and Television, so the skills I acquired on my course came in very handy.

RJ: Pretty cool to be able to put your skills to work in a different field. Totally random question. Your website mentioned you’re reading the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins next. I also noticed you have the Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger as recommended reading. Does watching the movie get you interested in reading a book or is it the other way around? And why?

AS: I finished The Hunger Games series, by the way. I’m a huge film fanatic (having a degree on the subject should be a clear indication) but I must say that watching a movie adaptation does not get me interested in reading a book. I tend not to read a book if I’ve watched the movie as I already know what to expect so it kills the suspense.

RJ: I totally know what you mean. I’m the same way. :) I purchased the Time Traveler’s Wife after watching the movie, yet I haven’t even cracked it. haha So, what are you working on now?

AS: Right now, I’m working on the sequel to Talisman Of El.

RJ: Definitely something to look forward to. Do you have any advice for other writers?

AS: For any writer coming into this industry, I would say you need to develop a thick skin. Believe in yourself and in your work. Right now, you are your biggest fan, so love what you’re doing. Also, just have fun.

RJ: Anything special you’d like to say to readers?

AS: Yes. Thanks to everyone who has shown interest in my debut novel. Thanks for your support and for reviewing my book. And thanks to everyone who pre-ordered a copy of my book. I hope you all enjoy the journey as much as I have.

RJ: Thanks a bundle for stopping by and sharing with us, Alecia. We wish you the best!

Excerpt:

The next morning, Emma faced the bridge.

She wanted to run away. Back to the shelter. Hide her head in the sand. Die. It was insane, trying to go home, and this whole scheme of trekking out to Maine like some brave person. When she wasn’t. What was she thinking?

No. She could do it. She had to do it.

She looked at the bridge, the water shimmering before her. It had become a sort of a test. Cross that bridge, go home, and bury her past and she could do anything. Even make it to Maine.

Her stomach growled in protest.

She promised herself she’d find food. Afterwards.

“Here goes nothing,” she grumbled, and waded into the frigid water. She regretted that she didn’t have a change of clothing. There was no help for it, she’d just have to build a fire afterwards and dry her clothes out. Taking the rope out of her pack, she held it close. She’d use it as a safety line.

The sun filtered down on her in the quiet early morning, as she swam toward the first stretch of the half-submerged bridge. She was a strong swimmer, but she knew her limits, so she took it slow and easy. She braced herself mentally against what floated in the water around her, or what she would find sandwiched in the sections of the bridge. And the smell. God.

She was shivering so badly when she got there, that she could barely claw her way up on the first section. Her hands cramped up.

Tears of anguish stained her haggard face. She tossed the rope, snagged a broken girder, then torturously pulled herself from the river. After she’d rested a few minutes, she started working her way across the bridge, carefully. She had sturdy tennis shoes on and was glad of it. Waterlogged, they squeaked and left round, wet spots behind her. At the places the bridge dipped or plummeted into the water, or was blocked with debris, she had to find alternative paths.

Once everything under her fell into the water, and the only thing that saved her from being sucked down with it and crushed was her lifeline. As she was hanging out over thin air, twirling at the end of the rope like a dead fish on a hook, she wondered again why she was doing this. Maybe she was touched in the head? She smiled at that. Of course she was.

But she gritted her teeth, wiped her tears away with numb fingers, and kept crawling along the concrete span.

Not all the cars had toppled into the water. Most of the vehicles on the bridge were empty, some weren’t. Emma tried not to look at the decomposing bodies, but it was difficult. They were everywhere.

“This is really stupid, Emma…this is really, really…dumb,” she groaned under her breath, as her weight accidentally dislodged a loose piece of the structure, and, with bated breath, she watched it plunge into the watery depths below her.

“Really s-t-u-p-i-d.”

Her bad leg gave her more trouble than she expected and soon she was dragging it behind her like a useless dead thing. It took agonizing hours to cross the bridge, and when she finally made it onto safe land, her body was shaking with the exertion, and her hands were scraped bloody. Her clothes were frozen to her like an icy shell. The first thing she did was gather wood and build a huge fire, then hunched over it until her clothes were almost dry. It was too chilly to take them off.

No Remorse Blog Tour: Who Art Thou Thursday? MaryLynn Bast

Today we wrap up our week with MaryLynn Bast with an interview. :) YAY! If you have more questions for her, sneak a few in the comments.

Reena Jacobs: Congratulations on your debut release, MaryLynn. Tell us a little about No Remorse.

MaryLynn Bast: No Remorse is a novel with a different take on werewolves. Yes, there are some similarities at other stories, but not exactly like other stories. Where most seem to center around a male werewolf, No Remorse focuses on Amber, a female werewolf, who has special abilities never possessed by another. She is ripped from her mother's side at a young age and is forced to defend herself while always on the run. Isaac, the werewolves Council Leader hunts for Amber. He wants to find the source of her special abilities so he can use them for his own. Amber meets Blake when she is eighteen but does not want to put him in danger, so she leaves and lives her life on the run. One day she comes across and wreck and finds Blake inside, on the brink of death. She knows if she helps she will be pulled into his life, but she couldn't allow him to die. Now, finding herself in the middle of a pack she must decide if she will stick around and deal with the drama when one of the packs cub is kidnapped. Will her abilities be enough to keep Blake and his pack safe when Isaac suddenly appears? Is she willing to put Blake's life in danger to know what she has secretly longed for, family and friends?

RJ: On your website you talk about the origin of werewolves. Will you share a few interesting tidbits about the werewolves in your novel and where they come from?

MB: Throughout No Remorse I do take the reader into the past to understand why Amber does some of the things she does to survive without guidance. There are interesting tidbits that explain how the werewolves in my world can be bonded and what happens when a werewolf bites a human.

RJ: Sounds like folks are going to have to dig into the book for the juicy deets. :) It looks like you have quite a bit lined up for the Heart of a Wolf series. Where did get the inspiration for your stories?

MB: I have always loved wolves and reading shapeshifter stories, but never considered writing one until my friend and fellow author Elizabeth Kolodziej suggested I write for a short story contest featuring wolves. Once I got into writing No Remorse, the ideas kept coming as I brought in characters.

RJ: Speaking of more ideas. What are you working on now?

MB: "A Justified Kill" has just been beta read and is being edited. This story features Amber before you meet her in No Remorse. As she remains on the run, she works in small roadside bars to make money along the way. While in the small backwoods town in Northern California, Amber makes her first change, and has to deal with the chaos that ensues.

"The Rescue" is a story of Marcello, a character from No Remorse. Marcello is a Special Forces Ops Agent who goes into Iraq to save a soldier being held hostage. There he finds that female werewolves are being experimented on to use against American Troops.

"One Bite To Passion" was just completed and is in the process of being beta read. I do not have a synopsis ready for this one yet because I literally just finished writing it last night, or should I say at 3:30am this morning. I wrote this because a publisher of erotica tales asked me to write it for his new line of paranormal romances that he is putting together.

I have a lot more works that are in process that I am working on a little bit at a time. But coming up next is "Softest Touch", Book two of the Heart of a Wolf Series. This story once again features werewolves and others paranormal abilities. The main characters will meet with the characters of No Remorse to find the murders of a six year old boy's parents. They find that there is a problem with children being abducted, sold and used for their special abilities.

RJ: Give us a brief description of a story you have hidden in your skeleton closet? And will it ever see the light of day?

MB: Growing up, I had to deal with an abusive stepfather. The way I dealt with that mentally was to read and write, to escape into my own world where I could hide away. Not too long ago, thinking on the situation, I sat down and wrote the beginnings of a story where the main character is a DA who was abused as a child and when the criminals skate on technicalities she finally quits. One day she comes across a man watching a little girl in a park. After doing her own investigations, she takes matters into her own hands and deals with him. This is a pretty dark tale that I will someday pull back out when I am in that frame of mind again and finish it.

RJ: I have a special place in my heart for stories that put me on emotional journeys. I wish you the best with that story. With hindsight being 20/20, is there anything you would have changed with your publishing journey?

MB: Yes, research is one of the things that I failed to do in the beginning and got myself into a bind. But with the help of my writers group, I made contacts with the right person and got out of the contract within a couple days, where I had heard it had taken years for others.

RJ: Do you have any advice for other writers?

MB: If you have a story to tell, then tell it. I have heard so many people say that wish they could write a book. Well, just do it. It doesn't have to be perfect…that's what beta readers and editors are for.

RJ: Anything special you'd like to say to readers?

MB: Without readers, writers would have no audience to hear the stories they must tell. Thank you for your support!

RJ: Thank you for spending the week with us!

No Remorse Blog Tour: Tuesday Teaser

As promised, MaryLynn Bast is sharing an excerpt with us from her latest release, No Remorse!

Amber stormed through the small cabin, wanting to grab something, anything, to throw it at him. The room just seemed too small for the two of them, where hours early it had been cozy. Every time she looked at Blake, she wanted to hit him, but also pull him into her arms and kiss him at the same time.

"What have you done to me!?" she demanded to know, running her hand agitatedly through her hair. She didn't give him time to answer before she stomped off into the bathroom and slammed the door.

Amber stared at herself in the mirror. Her skin practically glowed and her dark chocolate eyes were misted with yellow specs. Her wolf was close to the surface, yet was no help to her at all. The wolf urged her to go to Blake, go to his wolf. Yet, her human instincts warned her to run, run as far away and as fast as she could from the man who had marked her.

"But you marked him, too!" She accused herself sharply in the mirror.

Thrusting herself away from the mirror, Amber spun and slammed the lid to the toilet down and plopped down on top of it. She wanted to cry, but hadn't cried in years. It was a waste of emotion and she hated the useless feelings she felt after she did.

Amber knew she couldn't just stay in the bathroom. But she didn't want to go out there right now, didn't want to face him. She could hear that he was still, not moving as he waited for her to come out. He was standing in the same spot she had left him when she had started ranting and raving like a mad woman ten minutes earlier.

Plopping her head in her hand she closed her eyes. Her wolf was quiet for a change. "Now you leave me alone," she mumbled grumpily. She could feel her wolf nudging at her emotions, urging her to calm down.

Amber took a deep breath, opened her eyes, and stared at the door. Drawing another deep breath she could smell his scent, he was all over her, in her now, a part of her forever. With a resigned sigh, she stood and opened the door slowly.

Hearing the door open, Blake turned towards the bathroom to watch her come out. His caramel eyes followed her every move as she slowly walked towards him.

Amber wanted to laugh at the look on Blake's face, like he was afraid that she might shoot him or something. But he stood his ground when she walked up to him and stopped right in front of him with her hands on her hips. Looking into his eyes, she frowned, staring at him hard. "I may be your mate for life, but that doesn't mean you own me. I am my own person and I will do what I want," she said adamantly.

Blake held his hands up, shaking his head. "You are the last person I would try to control," he told her fighting the relieved smile.

"I have my life and you have yours," she continued standing with her hands on her hips while she waited for him to deny it. Like any smart man would, he kept his mouth shut and listened. "You have your home, I have mine. I will stay here until I get ready to move on. Just because we are mated doesn't mean we have to live together."

Blake did his best to hold his temper in check. His wolf was pounding at him to mate with her again to dominate her. He fought the urge to grab and shake some sense into her, to make her see that he was in control.

Instead, he took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly and talked softly. "Amber, we are mated for life. That means our wolves will claw at us to be together. They will never want to be apart."

"Well I can control my wolf. You'll have to learn to control yours," she stated flippantly. Even though deep down she knew didn't have control over her wolf like she should have. She was adamant that she was not going to give up her freedom to control the relationship aspect of her life as well.

"My wolf is fully under control." Grinding his teeth to keep from snapping at her, Blake continued to fight the urge to grab and shake some sense into her. Wisely, he turned and went into the kitchen instead.

Amber wanted to kick him in the ass as he stalked into her kitchen and began rummaging through her cabinets. Sitting the coffee can heavily on the countertop he grabbed the carafe and filled it with water from the water dispenser.

Greetings my loyal (and not so loyal) readers. :) Welcome one and all. This week MaryLynn Bast is visiting as part of the No Remorse Blog Tour, so be sure to return throughout the week. Allow me to introduce my writer buddy and her debut series "Heart of the Wolf."

Heart of the Wolf

The Series is a multi-genre saga that chronicles the lives and adventures of one pack, Clan Geroux, who inhabits the southern area of the United States and is governed by its thane, Blake, and his mate, Amber. Amber is a special female werewolf, stubborn and independent, with mystical powers brought on by her unusual birth circumstances and a chance encounter as a baby, and she is the first female werewolf to ever have a controlling interest in her pack, breaking the mold and setting out on a future of gaining equality for women among lycans. Blake and Amber are assisted by Adam, Marcello, and Seriana. Adam is Blake's trusted friend and a seer whose visions and premonitions always come true, helping the pack survive against tough odds. Marcello is Blake's right hand man, the second in charge and a battle-hardened U. S. Special Forces veteran who surpasses Blake in strength and prowess, but who has sworn his allegiance to Blake, and who is occasionally called away from the pack to serve his country, finding werewolves either in danger or as the danger. Seriana is not a werewolf, but is a special being with healing powers who saves the pack on many occasions and who has earned the trust of her adopted pack and its greater clan.

First up in the series — No Remorse

Due to her unusual birth, Amber has abilities no other werewolf has ever possessed. On the run since childhood, the lone wolf avoids contact with other werewolves at all cost, continually moving, constantly looking over her shoulder and always alone.

Everything changes when Amber saves a werewolf from the mere brink of death, Blake, the only werewolf to ever protect her. Love blossoms, but not without tribulations when Amber realizes she must help her new pack rescue a member who is being held hostage by a rival pack.

Warring with emotions of going from lone wolf to the pack leader's mate, Amber must decide if she is willing to risk Blake's life to know true family and friendship despite the fact that the Council is hell bent on locating her and will stop at nothing until she is found. Will Amber's special abilities be enough to keep everyone safe?

Excerpts
Dark Passages

Don't follow me

Down the dark passages of my mind.

Though I need you near,

Would you stay with me

To find my dark secrets?

Are you willing to risk

Getting lost in the shadows

To bring me light?

Come follow me

Down the dark passages of my mind.

I want to lure you and keep you

Forever mine.

To get entangled in my sinister thoughts

And never get free…

Would you want to be mine then?

Save me from

The cruel dark passages of my mind.

Teach me how to love, how to trust.

Take my hand and

Lead me to the light.

Give me yourself

And I'll give you everything.

Faith

She suffered in the torment she made

When she did not trust God.

Through tears and fears she did wade,

Trapped in her horrifying abode.

He showed her mercy and love

And first she was blind.

All she saw were clouds above,

And Satan spoke in her mind.

When at last alone, tired, and afraid,

She thought to turn to His love,

All she thought He would do- upbraid

And knew she deserved Him to disapprove.

But still He gave love, mercy, and grace

And with tears in her soul

She fled to His warm embrace

And no longer felt cold.

Reminiscent

Looking back on my short life

Should I be ashamed?

What did I do and who did I please?

And was there an innocent blamed?

When I account for my life

Will I be able to say

That I did my best and tried my best

And made the darkness go away?

Only time will tell whether

I deserve the crown

The crown that God will deme fit for me

For my life, for my time I've been around.

Time

Is there enough time in this world

To do what you want to do

To be as helpful as you can be

To do what you long to?

Is there enough time in this world

To think what you want to think

To be as creative as you can be

To not think of your rank?

I think there's enough time in this world

To do what you want to

To think what you want to thin

To do what you long to.

About Nicola Black

Nicola Black has always been a very creative young woman. When she was younger, she and her mother would make up stories together. As Nicola got older, she started writing them down. However, she would never finish anything. Throughout school, she had to write poems for English. She was homeschooled and her patient mother taught her how to write well. Eventually, Nicola started writing poems outside of school projects. At first she did not think they were very good, but after a while, she finally published her first set of poems on Smashwords. After receiving some very good reviews, she finally realized that she could write. Nicola Black is currently working on three novels and a compilation of short stories.

Nicola Black has been to Scotland three times, but is currently living in the South. She has also joined the Navy and is going to boot camp in September. She also enjoys writing music.
