WorldCon Schedule

It’s going to be the drunkest con of the year!

I was put on a few panels at Worldcon, which I admit still surprises me.

Compared to my nine or twenty panels at Gencon, this will be a fairly relaxing affair as long as nobody crashes into their own face during the Writing Diverse Characters panel, which folks are weirdly wont to do on this sort of panel, especially at the core SFF cons. I MEAN LOOK AT THE OPENING DESCRIPTION OF THE PANEL MY GOD.

Iwill try and keep a lid on the mad as best I can...

All Together Now: Writing and Managing Anxiety

At the end of June, I lost my shit.

GEEK FEMINIST REVOLUTION was due July 7, and last ditch copyedits were due on EMPIRE ASCENDANT July 9. THE STARS ARE LEGION is due October 1.

And I still have a day job, folks. Day job 4ever.

I was, in a word: stressed.

I was also nearly out of the drugs I use to stay alive cause of mychronic illness, and my doctor wouldn’t re-up me until I came in for a long-overdue appointment. I’ve talked before about having anxiety and panic attacks related to going to...

Gencon 2015 Schedule

Gencon is coming at the end of the month! Holy hell.Time fucking flies.

I will have ALL MY BOOKS available for sale at the Indy Reads Books booth. I also hope to have postcards available with the EMPIRE ASCENDANT cover and possibly a sampler, though we are still too far out to have ARCs available.

Weirdly I haven’t seen anything about me having a signing or anything, but I’ll be happy to sign anything you bring to me after any of these panels.

Here’s where you can find me at the con:

Books You Should Be Reading: THE LIBRARY AT MOUNT CHAR

I want you to look at the cover of THE LIBRARY AT MOUNT CHAR. JUST LOOK AT IT. Anyone who says covers don’t sell books is lying. There’s a reason it’s the biggest marketing expense a publisher spends on a novel, and if they get it wrong, you may not be entirely fucked, but you will be put at a severe disadvantage.

The cover was enough for me to click, and when I opened to the first page, well… it’s about a librarian walking along the road with a detective’s blood all over her, and why the hel...

All Quiet on the Midwestern Front

It’s time, once again, for me to put myself on an internet blackout – or at least an internet diet – as I rumble toward some very intimidating deadlines. So you may see a little less of me bouncing around on Twitter this summer outside of scheduled events and news annoucements.

Here’s what the next few months look like for me, and why I need the extra head space:

1) July 1st:12 essays due to my editor at Tor Books for The Geek Feminist Revolution (out in May or June 2016!)

2) July (sometime):...

The Revolution of Self-Righteous Dickery will Not Be Moderated

DISCLAIMER: (a la Wendig) THE IS MY PERSONAL FUCKING BLOG

I read once that the real cost of racism was in keeping folks affected by same from doing their work. This works for stuff like feminism and homophobia, too. Instead of doing the work we were meant to do, bigots want to keep people spinning in circles, spending all their time writing endless think pieces that refute their insistence that we can’t and have never done anything. Yes, ::yawn::weexist, yes we can do these jobs, yes we are h...

Wives, Warlords and Refugees: The People Economy of Mad Max

CONTAINS SPOILERS

I wasn’t going to go and see the latest iteration of Mad Max.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m a passionate fan of 80’s apocalypse movies (I wrote a whole series in homage to them!). I love the aesthetics, the desperation, the tough characters, the monstrous masculinity that both men and women must take up in order to survive… But I’ve watched as the heroines of those gritty 80’s epics I loved have been continually debased, ground out, and erased here in the last twenty years. When y...

On Selling 6 New Books in 16 Months

I have gotten very good at reviewing contracts in the last 16 months.

Mylatest sale, a collection of greatest hits and new essays titled, THE GEEK FEMINIST REVOLUTION will be out next year from Tor Books. We’re gunning for spring/early summer so it works as a good warm-up tour for the release of THE STARS ARE LEGION on October 6th. That makes 6 books sold in the last 16 months, and 9 books soldtotalsince 2011, for those keeping track.

And yes, I still have a day job. Structure your own publis...
