5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT READ AT THE RIGHT TIME!
By ChevyVega
This review is from: Double Life: A Love Story from Broadway to Hollywood (Hardcover)
How fascinating this book is historically and especially pertinent today. With President Obama finally coming out with his support of same sex marriage, this book sheds a revealing light on the subject, by showing how a relationship of two talented men survives over 50 years. It also lays out, without preaching, why theirs deserves the same rights as any straight relationship. The book is adventurous as they pursue their different careers, very funny in parts and extremely moving in others. They have both met and interacted with fascinating people, from movie stars to mad men ad types, and they also tell of the inner workings of the entertainment industry, plus the art and publishing worlds. All good stuff to know, and written with great ease and insight. The two men write their alternating chapters in two part harmony which builds to a final and beautifully revealing climax. As a "straight reader" I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a memoir. It's one of the freshest yet.

After our sometimes cloudy 50 year journey of living a 'Double Life', Obama, in his singular and courageous statement, has let in the sunshine of equality at last.
The photo of the two young men reading our book at a recent event is a perfect example of how #OBAMALOVE will stand for the right of everyone to love the person of his or her choice.

Biden told NBC's "Meet the Press" that marriage should be about being loyal to someone you love, whether that marriage is between a man and a woman, two men or two women.
This focus on universal love was originally highlighted in the 1931 Gershwin song:
"Love is sweeping the country!
Waves are hugging the shore;
All the sexes
From Maine to Texas
Have never known such love before."
In Double Life, ia 50 year' love story' from Broadway to Hollywood is celebrated.

Next month, voters will decide whether to change the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage, as well as civil unions and domestic partnerships. Leading Republican lawmakers think it's one of the most important issues facing voters. But some conservatives worry that the measure goes too far.
