Finding Grace in the Everyday: A Conversation with Charlie Peacock and Andi Ashworth (Copy)

Recently, I had the privilege of sitting down with Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Charlie Peacock and his wife, author Andi Ashworth, to discuss their new book, Why Everything That Doesn’t Matter Matters So Much: The Way of Love in a World of Hurt. The conversation left me inspired, challenged, and grateful for their wisdom.

Charlie and Andi bring a wealth of experience from their creative, spiritual, and personal journeys. From Charlie’s iconic contributions to contemporary Christian...

Andy Chrisman of 4Him: Reflecting on the Music, Ministry, and Memories

As a longtime fan of 90s Christian music, I couldn’t have been more excited to sit down with Andy Chrisman from 4Him, one of the most iconic groups in CCM history. Our conversation took us through the early days of 4Him, the stories behind their biggest hits, and Andy’s journey in ministry today. Here are the highlights of our chat.

The Beginnings of 4Him and Their Overnight Success

I started by asking Andy about how 4Him got its start and the group’s incredible run in Christian music.

Ashley: “How...

Tell Me You love 90s CCM without Telling me you love 90s CCM.

Why You Love 90s CCM (Without Saying You Love 90s CCM)

If you grew up on 90s Contemporary Christian Music (CCM), you know the songs, the artists, and the unforgettable moments that shaped a generation. Recently, I asked our community at Mixtape Theology to tell us why they love 90s CCM—without actually saying it. The responses rolled in, and they were a perfect mix of nostalgia, humor, and heartfelt memories. Here are some of the best ones!

The Most Creative Responses

Josh nailed it with his quirky...

Is Jesus Still alright with you?

Written by guest contributor: Liz King of Liz Humor Comics (Thanks, Liz!!)

We live in a world opposed to God, His truth, and His nature. This world twists the truth, authority, and reality of God and pressures anyone who tries to stand on the truth of God by trying to force them to bend to the culture rather than the savior.  Many make Jesus out to be this hippie, socialist who coddles the sinner rather than changing them. They fit Jesus into their ideas and ideals instead of stepping into His. M...

Step up to the microphone.

Written by guest contributor: Liz King of Liz Humor Comics (Thanks, Liz!!)

In a world with blurred lines of truth, moral compromises, voices fighting to be heard, and people forcing their truths and opinions on others, it is important that we are willing to step up and speak the truth of God. Today I got my inspiration for writing from The Newsboys’ song Step Up to the Microphone.  Many Christians today are scared to speak the truth of God because they fear repercussions from the world.  Many Chr...

Don’t get left behind.

The year was 1993, and I had completed my Freshman year at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. A couple of months before the end of the year, I heard on Christian radio that my favorite CCM group, 4HIM, would be in concert at Christ Church in Nashville a day after I completed exams. And to top it off, Michael English was the opening act.

“In Christ Alone” was the top song of the day, and I couldn’t wait to hear English get the crowd warmed up with some Jesus music before my go-to gro...

Welcome to the Hotel California

Yes, as you see from the title of this blog, we are traveling down a dark desert highway. On this journey, you may or may not feel the cool wind in your hair. It all depends on your perception of the Eagle’s classic, “Hotel California.” And to be completely candid, I used to be fearful of this song. But now I have heard the mission bell and believe it to be genius. We all agree the song is iconic, yet I have recently discovered that the songwriting is masterful.

Many may ask, “How does this ...

When Nostalgia Meets Nostalgia | Take 6: The Biggest Part of Me

Recently I was perusing Spotify and listening to various songs that took me back. You know, back to the good ole days! It still blows my mind to think that 30 years before 1994 was 1964! In 1994, 1964 sounded so ancient. Serenity now!

It is a fun practice, and hitting play to a song I haven’t heard in years always takes me back to those good times of mullets, synthesizers, acid-washed jeans, and WWJD bracelets. Those years were instrumental in my discipleship. I never want to live in the pa...

Where Is the Hope in Unthinkable Suffering?

One thing that we hang our hats on at Mixtape Theology is the idea of how we saw things 30 years ago and how we see them now. Meanings of songs evolve as we grow in our faith and theology. When I listen to The Great Adventure now, I hear it with different ears. The song influenced my life back then and was one of my gateways into CCM, yet I now understand “long-faced religion” and what trail riding on the wild blue yonder in God’s Amazing Grace is about. It is refreshing and enlightening at ...
