Release date set for Eve's Harvest
It's been a long road to publication for Eve's Harvest, the first fiction anthology from Odyssey Books, the publishers of Lip Magazine. I have a short story ('The Dan Experience') in the anthology and am so looking forward to seeing it published alongside some of Canberra (and Australia's) finest emerging writers.
The antho will be published on 19 September, with the launch date yet to be announced. I will post details here closer to the date.

Drum roll please…Best of Friday Flash Vol 1 out now!
While it's always a real thrill to have a story included in an anthology, the release of Best of Friday Flash Volume One is a an absolute pleasure. The #fridayflash movement on Twitter – the brainchild of JM Strother – was where I got my start in writing. I had recently signed up to Twitter (under the moniker Cascade Lily – after my first blog Cascade) and was trying to get my head around what it was all about and why I should bother. While it's primarily about chick lit, it was Cathy's fabulous advice about plotting, as well as her easily understandable references to the hard-to-read Story by Robert McKee, that really helped me find a pathway out of the writing funk into which I have sunk over the past two months.
I find I am all 'flashed' out and need the challenge of longer, more meaningful fiction. While I knew ...

Writing exercise: Sunday Best
After a little break from writing, brought on by story exhaustion after churning out a new piece of flash fiction every week for more than six months, I have been inspired to pick up the pen (or start tapping my keyboard again) by a) a deadline and b) a cool little writing exercise devised by Jodi Cleghorn at Write Anything.
I am not very good at narrative writing (my strong suit is dialogue), so this 10-line exercise was great in making me sit down and give it a go. I've recorded it on

The joys of working with an editor…or two
With sweaty palms and a knotted stomach, I turned in the first draft of my Chinese Whisperings story last week. Experiencing typical writer's angst about whether the story would be up to snuff, I waited with great trepidation for my editor's comments. With two series in the anthology, there are two editors – Paul and Jodi – whom I mentioned in my previous post. Paul is my editor and I am so happy to be working with him. There's nothing like a good editor to lift your story from being good...
