Would you say that Demeter is an antagonist?

Yes and no.



I think that Demeter is certainly Aidoneus’s antagonist. I think it’s hard for her to be a general antagonist because one has to sympathize with her.

The society she lives in and the situations she has found herself in kind of propel her decision making. And like all the other characters in the books, she has glaring character flaws.
