The gray clouds part for an instant and Persephone is shaken awake again by the rubber scrape of the windshield wiper against bare glass. She uprights from when she had been leaning against Hades’s shoulder and swipes her fingers at the side of her mouth, hoping she wasn’t drooling. Or snoring. He insists that he take her back home. Charon scoffs from the front seat. They’re in a hearse. At the head of a funeral procession. Hades’s client is in a coffin in the back! He laughs that they must have kept each other up very late for Hades to think that was even an option.
