Fake show poster for Receiver of Many by Kata Chthonia

I saw that kata-chthonia had mentioned how cool it would be to get the George R.R. Martin treatment with her amazing take on the story of Hades and Persephone.  So to celebrate the impending final chapter, I’ve started to make some fake HBO-style posters for her.
This one is for Demeter, though the scale is a bit odd.  It’s supposed to be her walking through the frozen wasteland she’s created in spite of the Olympians and the mortals that worship them~

Man herding his sheep in the shadow of the Acropolis, early 1900s. This photograph was taken by the Swiss photographer Fred Boissonas. Mister Boissonas is known for his incredible photographs of ancient Greece and it’s beautiful nature. The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a high rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and containing the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance.

mortisia:

Necromanteion of Ephyra - Nekyomanteion at Acheron (The Oracle of the Dead -Hades)

The word Nekromanteion means oracle of the death, and the people came here to talk with their late ancestors. The Nekromanteion of Ephyra is the only oracle of the death in Greece, although there were many oracles in ancient Greece. It was an entryway to the underworld, and a place where the shades of the dead could - under special circumstances - reveal the future to the living. It was the place that Homer sent Odysseus to seek advice from a long-dead oracle, and where he was horrified by visions of Hades, and it also appears in a sordid chapter of Herodotus’ Histories.

The site rests atop a hill near the confluence of the Acheron (“River of woe” in Greek), Pyriphlegethon (“Flaming with fire”) and Cocytus (“River of wailing”), three of the five rivers associated with Hades, was identified in 1958 by the Greek archaeologist Sotirios Dakaris. Dating to the 3rd or 4th century BC, the ruins are 72 feet square, with 11 foot thick walls, and subterranean chambers.

The ancient Greeks believed that the souls of the dead entered the underworld though subterranean fissures, and that in special cases like this, arrangements could be made to communicate with the dead. This was used as an opportunity to commune with lost loved ones, and also to seek out the future telling skills of the dead.

ΠΛΟΥΤΟΝΕΙΟΝ, PLOUTONION, Eleusis, Athens, Greece

Located in the sacred archeological grounds of Elefsina. Ploutonion is said to be the place where Hades appeared to abduct the beloved daughter of Demeter, Persephone. From that exact spot he guided Kore to his Underworld Kingdom and made her his Queen.

The cave is said to lead to the Underworld itself. Before the cave once stood a temple dedicated to Pluton/Hades.

So I just wanted to inform people that if you go to the temple to Apollo at Delphi where the oracle at Delphi was situated there are cats, like everywhere and they are so placid I spent most of my time there with a kitten in my arms, Greece is honestly a great place for cats and if anybody is going the or near there and likes cats you should really go, not only is it a beautiful historical place it’s also full of cute fluffy balls of fun

@therkalexander On the offchance Persephone wears a nightgown…?

The off chance. I’m sure she wears something to bed when she’s staying in the Telesterion. At home? Not a chance.
