@$$ is drawing for Slipshine again. If you want to see more pages from @$$, please write to your congressman! I know I will.
If there is one thing Slipshine has needed, it's much more comic pages by @$$.

finally, the crappiest five pages of Doctor V have been fixed up.
K, enough of that, time to draw an actual new page. This new page may be delayed a bit due to 4th of July parting. A perfectly legitimate reason.

Comic revisions... the unending job that never ends
Doctor V sure did take over every waking moment of my day quickly. Which is fine, of course. Right after finishing today's page, I went back and revised three more pages.
Even though stories 2 and 3 were drawn on layouts formatted to comic book dimensions, they're all drawn to bleed, and with not nearly enough bleed space.
There were over about 600 pages of Girly that had this problem too (all of chapters 12 through 15, basically). When I was making the books, I found myself having to contain all those pages within borders. It was rather a shame, but there was nothing else to do, because there was no way I could just go back and draw in extra bleed space for that many pages.
With Doctor V, there's less than 100 pages in the archive that need this, so I can totally do it! Not too much work to do, in theory. Except I'm running into other things that need fixing.
After relettering the first story, it struck me just how much I learned about lettering over the years. It's not really one of those things I noticed. And now having my current style of lettering segue into the klutzy style from four years ago is just really awkward, so it's become imperative for me to reletter the remaining comics up to the current story.
Moreover, the first set of pages for the Mr Handington story were REALLY a mess, and I had to work them over a bit. I don't know if I'd consider this breaking that self-imposed "don't change the art" rule because it's like I completely did not bother doing any cleanup after I inked. So along with the new lettering, I fixed a lot of the messy lines, considering it just me finishing something I shoulda done way back then.
Here's Mr. Handington, page 5, the worst of the bunch. The page as it was before I replaced it a half hour ago:
Seriously, I looked through my archives and became worried every new reader would come to this page and think "wow, he sure forgot to draw quickly". D:
How it is now:
Still not perfect, but I just wanted to make it a cleaner version of the style I had back then. Just something less off-putting.
I'm not sure why the art was THIS shaky at first… but I think I may have been drawing it with the intention of shrinking it WAY down for the web. Which is to say, I was drawing them using comic page dimensions now, but still shrinking them down to the same 400px width the earlier, skinny comics were being sized to. Indeed it didn't look THAT bad when shrunk down that much.
It's like this up until Dr. Nakedgirl makes her entrance. Then it's not too bad. I guess by then, it occurred to me that pages pages drawn to look good very small would look terrible filling an entire book page, so it was time to make it big everywhere. So I only got a few pages of fixes of this caliber before it lightens up again. But I'm sure something else will come up.
Basically I'm saying that when the Doctor V book comes out, I hope a LOT of people buy it. :o
