I made my second novel, TREEMAKER free for five days as a promotion for anyone who got an ereader as a gift this year.

It's only free until the 28th. You don't have to have read the first novel to enjoy the second one. Please take advantage of the remaining 4 days.

First Post

I finally figured out how to make a goodreads author profile, so now anyone who likes one of my books can find the others. Also, anyone who's been angry at the review I wrote of their own book can retaliate. Go ahead, pan my book. I can take it.*

I was going to link to my own blog, www.katercheek.com, but that blog is mostly book reviews copied over from goodreads, albiet second drafts with some of the typos fixed. I do have a few charts and comics there as well.

I review almost every book I read. I like to compare a book to others in its own class, rather than rate a book based on how smart people are going to think I am because I read it. I take reviewing seriously, and hope that by reading my review you can tell whether you would like the book or not.

I try to make three stars the default rating. Actually, I don't like the star rating system very much, which is why I delete the stars on my own blog. It's supposed to be "didn't like, it was okay, liked, really liked, and it was amazing." But sometimes a book is really, really amazing, but I didn't enjoy it that much (usually because it was too dark and depressing [Disgrace,The God Engines], or too slow and hard to read [Cloud Atlas]). Other times, a book is really enjoyable and I really liked it, but maybe I haven't read many others in that subgenre, so what I liked most was that it was different [Service Included], but when I read more in that subgenre, I realize that the first book I read wasn't the best.

Anyway, I review a lot of books, so if you enjoy reading book reviews, please stick around.

*Okay, I'm lying here. You knew that, right? Bad reviews hurt, of course they do. My novels are my babies. But please write honest reviews anyway. Even if you dislike my stuff we can still be friends.
