Hand with inspirational lights

What if you and I could design a conference together?

How do you think that would look? For one thing, I know it would be a fresh take on human resources and culture and leadership in the organization.

It would probably also feature some of the amazing speakers and academics and authors we’ve discussed here on the blog. People talking about gratitude and giving, happiness and flow, positive psychology and creating an amazing place to work with a magnetic employer brand. It would show, beyond a...

Social Capital: What It Is & Why Your Employees Need It

Would it surprise you if I told you your company will fail without social networking?

It’s absolutely true though. It will.

Of course, when I am talking about social networking I’m not referring to Facebook or LinkedIn. I’m talking about interpersonal connections and relationships. Social networks are as old as human society. Even older, really. They are what create community and culture and what enable us to function in groups and companies.

The measure of your success in building productive so...

The ROI of Recognizing Service Anniversaries

A few weeks back, I wrote a post about service anniversaries and why they’re important. You can check out the full post here. But recognizing service anniversaries has a direct impact on the company.

Employee engagement impacts the bottom-line.

One of the reasons that companies are focused on employee...

Thanks, Workday, for the Recognition… and the Reminder

I like to think I’m a pretty experienced practitioner in recognition. With nearly ten years at Globoforce, I’m probably as close to a professional recognizer as it gets. I talk about it every day. I’ve given out hundreds of recognition awards, and I’ve definitely received my fair share in return. As the creators of the world’s most effective program for employee appreciation and engagement, we do a LOT of recognizing in our organization.

And you might think that would make me a little blasé ab...

Just in time for Thanksgiving – the annual holiday where you not only gorge yourself on food and family, but give thanks for what you have in your life – Facebook recently launched a new way for people to thank their friends.

Logging on to their special #SayThanks campaign tool, people can select a friend and send them a quick video that highlights their relationship, and what they’ve been through together. As Facebook puts it, “Your friends are at the core of your Facebook experience, and we...
