Friday Freefrall: Information Overload

Amazon is supposedly planning to launch a new Kindle book subscription serviceIt’s real, and it’s part of the KDP Select program.

The Hatchette vs. Amazon drama continues. Here’s an author who says that publishers need to get the plank out of their own eyes. Standard publishing contracts tend to suck.

Apple has to pay up for its role in the price fixing scandal. Maybe you’ll get some dough.

Ever wondered who earns more: tenured or debut authors. Well, now you can find out.

Happy Reading and Happy Friday. Have a great weekend.

How to Update Nook Books

NookFrom what I have been able to tell, BN supplies no mechanism for automatically updating books on your Nook reader or Nook reading app.

Bummer.

To update Nook books, you need to delete them from your device and re-download them.

If anyone knows of another way to update Nook books, please tell me!

Riding Fear Free Updates

RFF KindleThis week, I’ve been busy tackling a task I’ve been putting off for a while. Updating books, in this case Riding Fear Free. Updating books is one of the less pleasant tasks indie authors must undertake from time to time. Honestly, It doesn’t sound all that bad, but when you consider that you have to update and upload each ebook file individually, then you can begin to see the full workload.

And then, there are those fun, little unexpected snags that always show up. Like a certain company who has “improved” their uploading system so that now you have to format the document slightly differently, or the same certain company whose “improved” software doesn’t want to work right.

So a task that shouldn’t take more than a few hours took me 3 days to complete.

I’ll publish all the updates in pdf so that you can see them for yourselves. Nothing about the content of Riding Fear Free has changed. We just added some trainer and rider endorsement blurbs, updated links, and took care of a few housekeeping matters. If you own it on Kindle, be sure to set your device to update automatically each time a book is revised.

The Brain

Part of what I love about writing fiction is the chance to step into the minds of my characters, especially if they think very differently from the way I think. And the most interesting aspect of helping to write Riding Fear Free: Help for Fearful Riders and Their Teachers was the chance to research the brain and how it works.

Studies on brain science fascinate me.

I’m a nerd.

And to prove it, here’s a video about brain myths, and here is the link to the GE blog they mention.
