Entertaining Mr Stone
Twenty-five years ago, Cornelius Stone and I created a character called Knuckles the Malevolent Nun. Yesterday, I visited Cornelius for the first time in a few years. I always feel like I left Knuckles with Cornelius when I moved to England...

Kirby Langridge
I'm doing a bit of amateur research into my roots while I'm here in New Zealand. My dad's got a pile of old documents, wills and so forth going back to when my family were magistrates in Sussex. He's also got a lot of stories about my ancestors, colourful reprobates to a man by the sound of it. Some interesting things are popping up...

Who Dat?
The dark secret of cartoonists is that we don't take holidays. Partly because, as freelancers, if we don't work, we make no money; and partly because switching off that part of our brains for more than a few days at a time feels like death. So I've had a couple of jobs I've been working on whenever I get a minute while I'm in New Zealand, and this is one of them: an illustration for a book on Doctor Who, the exact details of which I'm a bit hazy on, except that it was needed in a hurry and I was (sort of) available and it just happened, okay?
Not having access to a scanner while I'm larking about the country, I did this piece entirely digitally. The roughs were done in Photoshop, the various elements were inked separately (the Tardis in Photoshop, where I sort of knew what I was doing, and the figures in Manga Studio, where I really didn't but I liked the approximation of an inked brush line better than anything I could ever get out of PS), then I coloured all the bits in Photoshop and assembled them in a configuration to match the rough. I still don't really think I've got Matt Smith down. He's too damn young, that's part of the problem. Give him a few years and he'll have loads of interesting lines to play with, but right now there's nothing to latch on to.
Anyway.

Thor-oughly Collected
The work I did on Thor: The Mighty Avenger with Chris Samnee and Matt Wilson is apparently available now (or any day now) in a nice collected edition - all nine issues (including the FCBD one-shot) in one lovely package. I have issues with Marvel over their treatment of certain of their founding creators, and writing a Thor book is not something I would do now for that reason, but I'm really proud of the work I did on this book - and especially grateful for the opportunity to work with Chris Samnee, who is one of the all-time greats in the making, in my opinion.

In his Father's Footsteps
We went to the Auckland Museum today. I did a quick drawing of one of the Maori carvings in the meeting house...
... and Thomas started doing his own drawing, which I actually like much better than mine.
So I drew Thomas instead.
